A controlling millionaire publisher gives the hospital a large donation in exchange for Gonzo watching over his daughter who has a rare blood disorder that needs round-the-clock care and is smitten with Dr. Gates. Trapper must find a replacement for Starch who has gotten married and retired. Pt 2 - With Gonzo accused of sexual misconduct, the hospital faces a public relations nightmare.

I FORMATTED THIS COMMENT TO BE AS POLITE AND TRUE TO REALITY AS IT COULD BE. That being said... FOR THOSE WONDERING: Mary McCarty (who played nurse Clara "Starch" Willoughby) died before the filming of this season. On April 3, 1980, actress Margaret Lindsay found McCarty dead on the floor of her home in West Los Angeles. She was 56.The cause of death remained undetermined after an autopsy, with results of a toxicology awaited but never revealed. Pernell and the rest of the cast were shocked by the news. All the lines referring to her character on this episode were written by Pernell himself, giving her character the good ending it deserved via a direct connection with the episode 18 of first season: Strike! May her soul rest in peace.

...Good imaginative scripts and acting, vocal clarity, poise, dignity. Almost completely lacking save for PBS these days. I'm glad to be old enough to remember when. Although I was only about 5 at the time, I distinctly remember the theme song blaring from the Quasar set in our wood-paneled set on Sunday nights from then until the mid 80s. Same during summer Sunday nights spent in my grandparents Winston 100 smoke-filled wood-paneled den from their floor model RCA set. This show was Pernell Roberts triumphant career redemption, after foolishly throwing away with both hands his early lucrative career success by way of leaving Bonanza. 👍🏽💯😊

I grew up with a family of volunteer firefighters and EMTs. I’m not one of them. I remember hearing the wail of the alarm, the beeping of the radio in the living room and the dispatcher describing the emergency through the static. It was often in the middle of the night.
