I have that same trap basket. I attached fishing rod holders to the side of it. When trapping season is over it becomes my fishing pack for those spots well away from the road. The rod holders don't interfere with my trapping stuff in any way.

I enjoyed this video, Dave. Thanks for posting. It brought back happy memories of my trap-line back in the 1980s in Southern Michigan when I was in high school. I bought a used Winchester 94 .30/30 with money from trapping when I was in 9th grade. I was proud of that rifle.

Good video Dave. I used to trap many years ago and was rather successful at it until it came time to cash in the furs. The prices dropped down to almost nothing for practically everything I was targeting and I lost out big time. I've thought about getting back into it but only to trap for food and have a few furs to tan to turn into something useable. Thanks for the tips and good luck this season.

In New Mexico we have to have the 220s in a box at least 8 in in. Anything over a 7-in jaw span is not allowed on land

i always love the trapping stuff. i trapped only two seasons, 4 and 5 years ago, only 8 traps, but it was great, caught muskrat, possum, coon, and 1 beaver. then i had a kid, and another kid, and just got a puppy, so no go this season, but maybe next season i can do some. would be great to own enough land to trap on, maybe by next season as well.
@bigvisk1125

still time to hunt, just cant run a trap line, to much of a commitment, maybe when i can take a kid or two, or if i get my own property i will be able to.

I don't use the steel trap setters for my conibar traps anymore. I use the rope method. I haven't found setters that don't twist on me. I do beaver trap and as I stated the rope method works fine. rope takes up less space in my kit.

I was smacked in the face the day I decided to put aside the steel setters. No permanent damage fortunately. Be safe out there.

Trapping = Smart way to harvest game anyone can afford. Hunting = When all the rich executives come out here to the west and pay $15k to have a chance to shoot an elk I see everytime I go into the hills. Now I love hunting. Don't get me wrong. Elk, might be my very favorite game meat. I would rather draw a cow elk in bow season than Oryx rifle hunt. But more and more, hunting is turning into a rich man's sport, guys with $10k rifles who fly here on charter jets and take all our tags. Without local guides they wouldn't be able to find their ass with both hands. I hope I don't sound like an old crumudgen, but the rich man's money is taking regular guys like me and my kids out of the hunting community.

The only trap I have ever seriously used was a live trap. Not a great option for a trapper. Far too large.
