No incorrect. He has two older cousins and he witnessed the rival school football team beat one of the brothers up because he was a cocky one but the other brother stood up for him and it made him write this song thinkin about how if he wouldve protected his family, he would use a bat. It sounds crazy but he explains it full on a “My Blood” live performance on Siries FM or some shit. Search it on yt!!
his brother was a figment of his imagination, basically like an image of a positive role model or someone he could be there for him (cuz since his dad started drinking) his brother was basically like a coping mechanism
It is like the movie "fight club" where "The narrator" and Tyler are the same person but throughout the movie they show them as if they were 2 different people. In the end Tyler does not exist, the same happens in "My blood" of Twenty one pilots, the "strongest" boy does not exist, it is something that the first boy invented to be able to have someone by his side when his mother died and his father I go into alcoholism.
Could be a great visual for action vs. feeling, or it could be trying to depict an actual disorder where the brain splits in two (or three, or four, or fifty) as a response to trauma. Disassociated Identity Disorder. There are some youtubers you can find that have DID and make videos on it. It's wild.
He acted out like the “older brother” thinking it would help deal with his pain. The younger brother was how he really felt on the inside (insecure and scared) but he acted out like the older brother to hide his pain. When he defends his house at the end of the video, he feels that he no longer needs to hide his inside pain and merges both of the brothers together.
Man you are the best And im so proud as Skelton clique to see man like you love my best band ever And we want more... Like Isla of flightless birds . Air catcher
@Anna-Marie Mullan yeah it's like made in heaven But My fav one is trench Goooosh all TOP music is great my wish is to find just a little song to hate it
When his mom died the pain was too much, and he felt he was abandoned. So his brain to protect himself developed a split personality inside. So we were watching who he was on the inside (the broken quiet boy) and who he pretended to be (out going "trouble" maker). In a sense he was his own best friend to get him through. Best line in the song "If you find yourself in a lion's den, I'll jump right in, and Pull My Pin, and Go With You" I actually sing this song for my husband and daughter in the car, because they are my blood. On another note from Tyler point of view other than the explanation he gives, I think he's singing to us as well, because those of us that are fans have a few problems in common like that plus from his Christian roots we are all from Adam and Eve so we would all be his blood. I can't speak for every fan it just a pattern I've noticed. You should do Jumpsuit Video Next PLEASE!!! I hope I helped LayedBak, any other FPE out there please let me know if this was close to what you thought the video was about. Sahlo Folina
This is actually about his cousins. He explained it in his live performance during Siriusxm and his younger cousin always would get in trouble and the older cousin was more shy and the younger cousin caused trouble and brought it to there house and the older cousin was actually a black belt and took care of it
Basically his brother was his imagination. It's as u said everyone deals differently, the guy didn't know what to do or who to be so his brain made up the person he truly wanted to be and he lived that reality and not the actual one. If this makes any sense
At that age, you don't just invent imaginary brothers or friends etc.... you just have Schizophrenia or some terrible psychosis. Such a dumb idea for a song
I don’t think he was an “imaginary brother”. I think both were him. The older brother was outer him. That’s what everyone perceived. The one that everyone saw on the outside. But on the inside he was damaged and beyond hurting. And he was constantly trying to get that pain to subside and be on the same page as him, but the pain was too great. So he carried it through his life. Like a little brother. His broken side. Just my take on the whole thing.
He should've just started drinking and doing drugs like most people. Songwriter has obviously become painfully out of touch and reaching to the breaking point for ideas! Good thing he has a legion of teeny boppers who lack the life experience and wisdom to realize it
“If you find yourself in the lion’s den I’ll jump right in” He didnt just say that The harder part of that was when he added “And pull my pin and go with you” Like pin of of grenade There’s something dark but truly beautiful about that that completes the picture. Most often than not, it makes me shed a tear.
You've seen most comments telling you what it "means" or what happened, and they are all true in their own way, you go the whole time thinking these are 2 brothers, one may be not the best influence, but does his best to show his brother joys in life and it little things, to be strong and confident, and take each day as it comes, he is his brother, and his a coping mechanism, so that he wasn't alone, and had someone, once your at the end, and he actually steps up to help and confront a problem (like we all do sometimes daily), that's when we don't seem them anymore, they become the same, think of it like a guardian, to stay with you till you learn to face your demons, and once you eventually do, leaves knowing that you've learn to take care of yourself, or made that first step towards facing your inner battles
YES! This is my favorite song on the album by far, and "Pet Cheetah" is my shit. Everyone else has explained about the brother being an alter ego, and that's true - but Tyler has also explained that the scene of the little bro thrashing the guys who would hurt his big brother is based on an event from his childhood. He had two cousins who were brothers, one of whom was much more quiet than the other. His mouthy cousin got jumped one night, but the quieter cousin knew some sort of martial arts and wiped the floor with the attackers.
@@iviesinvision true, but who's to say that Tyler or anyone for that matter, can't take God as a support system. I believe that we can separate the two in any scenario. Religion is man made. God is God.
@@iviesinvision True! In fact a ton of Trench has to do with losing faith, and realizing it isn't enough to help you out of dark moments. That you have to rely on what's real! Leave the city is the strongest example of this, with lyrics like"it's only time before they show me, why no one ever comes back, with details from beyond"
the brother thing is a coping mechanism, i've used it, still do a lot of the time. you need somebody, to be there, to be around, somebody to talk, vent, and cry to, somebody to comfort you, so you make one, the person can be a fictional character, a musician, or just somebody from your imagination, there can be multiple people, and they can change, its all relative to the situation, the person, what they need, what kind of comfort they need
Twenty one pilots is always so layered. You think you know a song then you listen again and find something new. Whenever I'm in a rough place Tyler sings the right thing. I've had favorite bands before, but nothing compares to them.
It was his other confident side, everyone has one, is the one that makes us do brave things when we are afraid to do them. The football players represented the criticism, stress, anxiety, depression, everything related to madness. At the end, they were almost about to kill his courageous side and he finally had to decide to defend in what he believes to be or live without any personality traits for fear of rejection from society. Never doubt yourself of becoming the person who you want to be! & Most importantly "Love Yourself"
Sometimes when people go through extreme pain and trauma, especially at a younger age, they tend to disassociate. It's a coping mechanism..basically an alter ego was created by his mind to help him deal with this pain and protect him.
Aside from my other comment about what happened, the song and video itself, can be taken in more then one way, "it's about his brother, or about Josh who is like his brother, or about brothers or blood related family, or anyone you may have a bond with that's sibling like" how they can always be there for you, and try their best to show you the ups in life, or how it would be if you didn't have them at all, and if you where alone wishing you did, Spotify also has a good behind the music thing about this song too, even goes over a few of the meaning people try to connect it too, still all in all great music and video all the way around
That's usually what fat lazy people say to deny personal responsibility. I know LOADS of poor people who are NOT fat!!! Just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to stuff your face with cheetos and pie all day!!! And exercise is FREE!!! So...... myth busted!!
The way I took it is the way the mind will bend to help you cope with trauma. In this his mind created someone who will protect him that being his older brother as an alter ego to himself.
