It's funny how in the USA this may be considered garbage but in some very poor countries there are people that have never seen a computer and would love to have something like this.
Yes i would love this computer in Mexico they are very expensive i had to use windows xp until 2015 because of my laptop age only xp and 2000 work with drivers
@@robertwest4157yeah me also bc my cuz in Mexico would be so happy for that computer, like that thing fs could play counter strike. And he says that like pcs way more expensive in Mexico then us
How someone could throw away such a high-end pc without testing other PSU. I mean, its old technology But replace the HDDs for an SSD and it's completely fine for daily use or Not heavy gaming. PD: I have the same Golden Orb II CPU Cooler and weights like a ton!
Definitely wasn't the norm back in the day for a PC to take 20 minutes to boot. There's something wrong with the OS install or a failing hdd if that is the case. Anything over a minute or two for boot times is an issue, even with a mechanical drive.
my workstations was booting in 6 seconds in 2008 with first ssds and others with hdds 25 seconds in 2000 - 2003 in 30 seconds max around and build fix thousands off years ago 20 min would be just screwed up os and crappy hdd
Ah yes Windows 8.1 Vista edition. A true classic. Also I see hard drives get a lot of flak online but the truth is hard drives aren't that slow and no 20 minutes to boot any windows operating system is a massive red flag whether it's a hard drive or not. And I'm still using Windows 10 on a hard drive and it's surprisingly quick to boot.
I love refurbishing old computers to sell, donate to charities, and occasionally to keep for a special purpose. They are great for streaming, a home server, old games (10 to 30 years old), and tinkering with Linux. Throw in an SSD and maybe update the BIOS and put in a better CPU (cheap from EBay). I sometimes buy a palette of 30 to 40 of them from a state university auction for just $100 to $200. A few cheap hardware upgrades, update Windows and good to go. I can sell them for $200 each. Dell and Lenovo have support assistant utilities that tell you exactly what is in them and what they can be upgraded to. But the power supplies are low wattage proprietary garbage. Motherboards also have proprietary connections and mountings (but standard RAM and PCIe).
If the computer is THAT slow, it's likely loaded with bloatware, malware, and possibly viruses. I have an old Gateway Pentium 4 that I use as my "retro gamer", it runs older games I have that don't play well with modern graphics adapters but work well with the older onboard VGA graphics in that machine. When I got it, it was so painfully slow, that I ended up completely wiping the drive, with a drive erase program, and even that took forever to finish up. I did a clean install of Windows XP as well as all of its OEM drivers, for sound, video, etc. and it now runs much faster, like it did when it was new, even with a mechanical hard drive. Since all of the games I use on it are either installed to the hard drive, or on CD ROM, I don't have it connected to the Internet, so it has been safe from being bogged down by anything online.
Great video man. The love of fixing all things PC is so much fun. Also half life 2 is still an amazing game! If it can run half life 2 it's a keeper (just my opinion). I miss the phenom days.
yea I love going down memory lane with this older hardware. Was so much cheaper practical and easier to game on back then. And yes I agree on the half life2 lol...
I found a few systems on the side of the road on trash day a few years ago and I snagged em. One was actually a pretty decent AMD Phenom X6 system with a GeForce 8000 series GPU lol.. I put a 1070 Ti into it and it can still run modern titles fairly well at medium-high settings. The only thing wrong with it was a bad stick of DDR3; so it was probably one of my easiest fixes. One persons trashed electronics is my treasure; always looking to grow my collection of fixed electronics! Even snagged a nice 750W EVGA fully modular power supply from a PC that had a bad memory controller.
I have found their is always something to use from junk computers, weather it's saving the screws or repurposing the case or refurbishing an ancient computer for a retro pc customer!!
We should appreciate technology and not throw away electronic goods, preferably dispose of them in a suitable place and way to maintain the sustainability of the environment. • Watching from Melaka, Malaysia ✌🏻🇲🇾
I've found old computers are actually really hard to find for free. Even for sale. It's weird. Everyone had these old computers but you can find crt tvs easy but not old computers
I like to pick up these e-wastes to fix and reuse them, but in my country, if anyone leave their junks outside of their houses for like 10-20 mins, junk collectors will sweep them away...
@@angelosupetran We do but those junkyards are in the outskirts of my city, I live in the middle of the city, can not travel far away, and even when I get there and pick the stuff, its the cost of gas to travel, how to transport those stuff back home , and chance I get ripped off, just not worth it.
This case is pretty cool. I actually used it for a budget build video I got coming up next month. I painted the inside black and it really gives it a nicer look with the side glass panel.
I caughtsomeone w a quality DVD drive just in case and the screws of the case was the most useful 4 my 400 dollar case, so I took them the label said free computer.. after all...
I recently threw out an old Dell my friend gave me with DDR2 and a Pentium E5200. Everything got tossed bc of how worthless it was with the exception of: 2 Sata cables, 2 jumper pins, an IO cable, a 640 GB WD Blue HDD that runs at 7200RPM and 3 GBS and the rectangular PSU that I will use to power a test bench MOBO.
A few comments on your video. First, you never dust the case inside the house. You always do it outside. Actually, you want to thoroughly vacuum clean it first, in order to suck most of the dirt, and then you go outside to air spray it. And it's a good thing to have a soft brush at hand, a women's makeup brush does wonders. Second, if the machine does still not fire up, even after you check that the power button cable is plugged in the right pins, the first thing you do is to unplug the cable again and then you short the two power button pins, meaning the ones that the cable was plugged in previously. This is to make sure that you don't have a malfunctioning power button and/or cable. Then you test it again with another PSU that you are sure it works. Third. Wear a static bracelet in order to avoid some nasty situations. They are dirt cheap on the web and those capacitors can hold A LOT of power for quite a while, even if you have unplugged the power cable from the outlet. You can get a nasty shot, and/or you can burn some valuable components. Best thing to do when you unplug it, is to hit the power button again for two or three times to drain the capacitors. Fourth. WEAR GLOVES. You said it in the beginning, but you never wore them.
YES ! Dust does conduct electricity & why once every 2 years & will inspect & dust out & vacuum it out. One time I let a pc sit much longer & didn't dust it out. One day I turned it on & I heard a Pop ! The PC was Dead ! I took it apart & found an electrical Arc spot on the Motherboard where Dust conducted electricity from the case to the Motherboard & it Fried it. Had to order a new Motherboard.
I still have my Phenom II X4 system. In fact I built myself a a Pentium III system with a Abit BE6-II that I bought new old stock, 650 Mhz Intel Pentium 3 Coppermine Intel Slot 1, NVIDIA Geforce3 Ti200 that was junk salvaged, ATI 3D Rage Pro PCI, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SB0090, and a Yamaha OPL3-SAx ISA Sound Card. I even have one of those slotket adapters for Intel Slot 1 that I have a Pentium 3 clocked at 1 Ghz that I might try. I have this Dell Inspiron B130 that I might stick a Pentium M in.
In Canada you can't throw out a pc in the trash. It must be brought to a metal recyling center (usually at your local dump). Pc's have valuable metals and some toxic ones as well.
That is windows 8.1 so I think that PC may have been retired around 2012-early 2015. that PC has had nice upgrades during its time I know the GTX 500 series was around that time. They probably thought it was dead, had it in the closet for years and finally threw it all out later. Hopefully you’ll get more use of it then they did.
id kill to find something like this in teh trash. this is my dream. find an old phenom 9000 or phenom II with 1 let alone 2 or more GFXcards in it this is my dream. i never see PCs in the trash anymore :(
if you want to flip the pc id highly recommend you to change the psu to something more budget like the ASUS Tuf 450 or any other budget offering really because 850watt is kinda overkill. also keep the quality content coming m8 love your vids.
I find them in the higher end neighborhoods ($500k plus homes) and town where I live. people practically threw good stuff away mostly cause of age and ability to get something better.
man i gotta start going out more fint me some Baried treasues I see you found a Dell Dual Xeon this so far the second of ur video I am watching now, you submerge The componats in water and mix with a tad of dish soap, and re reinse ? to get that extra clear and make sure zero criters will linger behind ? well I defiantly keep watching ur videos TY for a lot of that Advice
Had the i7-2600s and dual sli 560ti way back in 2012 and I feel this belonged to a teen who went to college. I'm using the raptor drives for os 10,000rpm and is a little faster than the 7200 one but Jesus 20mins fully boot up? Dang nana must've busted the pc clicking on cornhub ads.
Good old AM2 or AM2+ socket. Those weren't great CPU's however they weren't necessarily a bad upgrade path. Back in the day I had an Athlon X2 5200 @2.7Ghz and upgraded to the highest end Phenom X4 9950 running at 2.6Ghz... This chip was a poor overclocker but I refused to have a lower clock so I ran it at 2.73. It would somewhat compete with Intel's Q6600 or Q6700 but overall the Core2Quads (Specially the Q9650) were significantly faster... When the I5 series came out... Intel had a significant lead. The Phenom II's were significantly better than previous generation Phenoms. (Smaller process and far more L3 Cash) however the I5's were always properly superior. AMD was cheaper and even on an AM2+ Board you could run Phenom II's so there was always a cost effective upgrade path. I can tell for a future video, an SSD and 8 or 16GB ram will make a huge difference but to run modern games, the CPU is a bottleneck or will be missing mandatory instructions to run quite a few games.
Just picked up an i7 6700 with a Gigabyte h-170 gaming 3 case and and optical drive from the trash . No power supply . Through one in and fires up np...
Hello Great Job.. I been following up with you in your video's , especially when it's about the dells iam in the middle of building my first PC.. I justed got a GTX 560ti and i plan on using it witth my build.. i woukd like to know if you be able to part with your GTX560 s?
got another video of this case where I case swapped a hp z240 oem into another one i had gotten. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NdipObceoiY.html
me knowing a lot of tech stuff when im 11 years old my mom how did you fix the family pc? but then my friends in school found out about this and then pov my friends:can you fix my pc phone ipad and alot of other things
I wouldn't do shit like that for nothing. I'd want something good, money would be best. It's sortof flattering and fun in the beginning, fixing them up, impressing whomever. But soon you get the feeling you're being taken advantage of, which you are. Demand something in return. That's what I'd do. Some people get to be parasites, same as the deadbeats who want my brother to fix their cars, and my brother never ****ing says "show me the money". He's more soft-spoken than I am. Meantime, these ****heads want something on time... "can I pay you later"... etc. ***k them.
