There's no nicer feeling than bringing vintage audio equipment back to life and saving it from the scrap heap - excellent job, well done!!

When I was a kid, back in the 50's & 60's, I learned how to repair tube radios and TV's going around the neighborhood picking up what was thrown out. Eventually everyone just started bringing their broke radios to me to fix...been a "tube-head" ever since and at 70, I'm still restoring the old classics...I'm an old Ham operator, all my rigs are tube...

I couldn't do any of that but I loved that the video ended with Johnny Hates Jazz. I love that album "Turn Back the Clock". Great choice. 👍

Good job! Fixing something back to working order can be very satisfying. One thing though, and you probably already know this, but regular RCA cables like you'd use for a CD or cassette unit can be pretty shitty as far as shielding and capacitance. $5 worth of proper phono cable is a good investment, even on a free turntable.
@harshnemesis
@harshnemesis 6 лет назад
What is so different in turntable that requires much better shielding than cassette or cd unit? Is it because there is no preamp in most old turntables?

It sounds surprisingly good.

There should have been a 3/4" thin wire spring below the turntable. It fits over the spindle under the centre disc.and gives a bit of suspension. It's easily lost but easy to wind another one. That turntable has a bit of wobble and will wear the stylus.

Thanks for this great video. I have the same turntable and model. But inches are broken on the base, any idea to fix it please. Alex

Hello, I know its an old video but you might read this. Do you have any tips on bringing the tonearm down? My tonearm just go out to a playing position but instead of going down it just stays still. I do understand that you don't remember much about the model but if you have any tips I would appreciate it very much.

Hey, do you happen to have found the solution? Mine suddently won't lower either.

Thanks for the upload - it was very useful for me as I have the same model turntable. I noticed the angle of the tonearm could be adjusted by a tiny screw. How can I determine if the tonearm is sitting at the correct angle?

Just bought one these meant to be in full working order but turntable does not work at all and very very wobbly. I think the postal system has caused a problem. Good video you produced by the way.

Thanks Robert! Glad you like my video! Take off the platter and check if the shaft is loose. It probably got a hit from transport. The one in the video must have received some rough treatment as well and I had to bend the shaft back into a 90 degree angle. Construction of the table is cheap. If its really loose there is from my memory not much you can do. The shaft is held in place on the metal plate by a rivet like connection and not a bolt.

Bonjour Je possède cette platine disque. Le bras tangentiel se place correctement, mais ne descend plus et ne vient pas.en contact avec le vinyle. Dois-je démonter le boîtier qui se trouve à la base du bras? Merci pour vos conseils

The hinges on those turntables were unbelievably crap. After mine went I replaced them with friction ones. The only other problem I had was the platter mat went hard.

I found one of these with a rock hard mat and no hinges. Where did you find the replacement mat and hinges? Cheers.
@astrase2
@astrase2 3 года назад
@@botany500kojak Sorry for being so long replying. The hinges I used were from AliExpress; www.aliexpress.com/item/32863906238.html They are tensionable and I used the black plastic ones but metal ones are also available from Amazon. I dismantled the turntable (easy job), taped the cover to the base leaving a small gap between them and positioned the hinges. Marked on hole positions on base with marker pen and carefully drilled through with 1/8" drill bit as holes in hinge are 3.2mm. I use 2,5mm screws and nuts to attach and then repeated with the lid once everything was properly aligned. I was lucky to get a good mat replacement on eBay. I think a new mat could be made from 2.5mm thick rubber sheet using the old mat as a template.

Hello, I’ve just replaced the stylus on this exact record player, but the needle is too high above the record and therefore isn’t playing. Do you know hoe to adjust the tone arm so the needle sits lower? Thank you

Hi, Can you advise how I can fix the anti-skating setting on this turntable? I have the same model. The stylus just skates across the record. Thanks.

Hi i try to fix an old Technics SL-J110R cd player but i cant get the arm to move out or down on the record do you have any idee what it can be??
@ClassicHiFiReviews
@ClassicHiFiReviews 6 лет назад
Hard to say from the distance what it could be and I have passed on the turntable already to someone else. Are the gears below the platter touching each other? Can you get it to move manually? Can potentially some plastic piece broken off something.
@jeffsimon9594

This model needs thorough testing eg. playing several LPs all the way through, before it can be deemed good working order. Mine plays perfect for a while then weird mechanical grinding will start up from under the platter, bad enough to make the record jump! Their aim with this and similar T4P models was to make it all 'idiot-proof', the result being a non-adjustable over-complicated machine with lots of potential for faults developing.

Hi I am currently replacing my broke old one with a new one I bought from France , the cables are different one eu and one uk , would you recommend swapping the whole circuit board over or just the cables , I’ve noticed that the voltage is different one is 220v eu and the uk one is 240v
@linuxholgi

Hi Paul, it doesn't really matter. Do what is easier. Assume that will be just replacing cables.

great video of great help, I'm interested in whether you use it before the amplifier ?? or directly connect to the amplifier gramophone? thank you
@ClassicHiFiReviews
@ClassicHiFiReviews 6 лет назад
This turntable does need an amplifier with a phone stage. Unlike the modern (and usually cheap) ones where you can flip a switch.

@AuroraPinheiro

hey do you know how to put the belt back on?
@ClassicHiFiReviews
@ClassicHiFiReviews 6 лет назад
Yes thats easy. First remove the rubber mat, then take off the alloy platter. But the belt on the inner ring of the platter. Put the platter back on the table. There are one of two windows in the platter. Spin the platter that the window is over the little pulley of the turntable motor. Use a flat screwdriver or another tool to pull the belt away from the inner ring and move it over the pulley. Done! its actually pretty easy. Maybe I should make a video :-)
