One mans "Trash" is another mans "Treasure". It was time for another project, I found a broken Xbox One Elite controller on ebay, it was a deal that I couldn't pass up. I was going to fix it but I couldn't resist adding some style to it as well. Enjoy.

I bought a "broken" elite controller off eBay for $60 bucks with all the accessories. Took me less than 5 minutes to fix the bumper so now I have a perfectly working elite controller for half the price.

@@jimb1117 Yes, my left bumper was broken for the last 2 or 3 months and I put a rubber band on it to stop it from falling out. A week or so ago my right bumper broke and it would fall out unless I put a rubber band on it. I replaced my bumpers a day or 2 later with the bumpers I brought for my original Xbox controller.

Hi buddy, I've got myself a faulty elite series 1 controller and first major issue is the power doesn't stay on. I've put a fully charged battery pack in it and it powers on for a split second then goes off. Do you have a video explaining how I can fix this or could you recommend me something to read or watch. I would love to see you make a tutorial about fixing the grips on the xbox one elite. I have seen alot of people complain about this and there are zero videos about this. There is a way to replace the outer grips but nothing for doing anything about the inner grip.

just a fair warning for anyone looking to fix a broken elite controller from ebay, i bought one a while back, and in the description it said that it turned on but one of the trigger locks was broken making the trigger unusable, when i got the controller i put batteries in, it didnt turn on, but i got into it ad fixed the trigger, checked the connections between the upper ad lower board, and discovered there was motherboard damage that would essentially require the entire motherboard to be replaced. definitely not worth my time or money, so be weary buying these things from the wholesellers, may not come as described

You know what would be a nice bonus feature on the Xbox One Elite controller ? If the next one I get has bumpers that dont break after 5 or 6 months and rubber that doesnt peel off the back. Im on my third one. This time I think Im just going to replace the bumpers on amazon and maybe glue the rubber. Shitty quality product for the price. Im not sure how fucking hard it wouldve been to put in bumpers like the ps4 has or a metal piece between the two bumpers so it doesnt snap in the middle. Probably not a big seller so microsoft doesnt give a shit. Nice controller besides those 2 issues.

where did you get the bumpers you used for the repair? I saw in another comment you got them from amazon, but what brand did you actually buy? I'm seeing some negative reviews on the bumpers i have found on amazon

+Zach Morgan, The bumpers do get a bad reputation because they aren't as easy to install as they are to take out. I wouldn't let the negative reviews keep you away. The bumpers I used didn't have great reviews and they work great. I hope this helps, let me know how your mod goes I'd love to know. Thanks again for watching.

Alright so, same as you, I got the controller off of ebay except the only listed issue was a broken right bumper. When I got the controller, I noticed that one of the thumb sticks was loose, and upon further investigation, it turned out the actual base for the thumb sticks was broken. This combined with the fact that the bumpers I got didn't fit so well with the default silver center piece that the bumpers connect to lead me to turn this into a bit of an experiment. The bumpers did fit with the center piece they came with perfectly and that snapped right onto the controller without issue. So after, I got that piece on, I replaced the magnetic thumb sticks with a set of matching blue thumb sticks that came with the replacement bumper/button set. Just so that everything would match, I also replaced the d-pad with the matching one from the same set. So, until the new magnetic base gets in, I'm using standard thumb sticks and a standard d-pad. What I have noticed so far is that these standard parts seem to feel a lot better on the elite controller. The bumpers themselves fit great and I hardly notice the difference between the bumpers i replaced on this one and the bumpers on my default/un-modded elite controller. Thanks for getting back to me about the bumpers, I probably would have still been looking for a set of bumpers by now. Also just for the record, the sticker on the back was in tact and untampered with so no one had messed around inside of it before I got to it. Thanks for the help!

james holmshaw Only thing you can do is replace the thumbstick module. You'll need to know how to solder to do that.

In response to M. Parker, DeoxIT is awesome for dirty contacts on just about anything electronic. I've used it to fix keyboards, pots on guitars, anything at all that looks like it needs it. Dries quickly, and all versions are non conductive i believe.

I bought a broken controller with the same bumper issue and a slow drifting left joystick for $50 but now I have to buy a new shell, paddles, and a few joysticks to replace the joysticks in the elite controller and my current controller.

I just bought a Elite without components, the listing said the exact issue was unknown but had issues that could be the culprit listed to cover their butt against disputes when someone buys one (they had multiple and it's still up). It was listed $39.99 on eBay and I opted to pay for faster shipping $4.99. eBay has that guaranteed delivery now so it arrived late got my shipping money back got the controller and only has a broken RB and the rest of it is totally functional. Overall I spent about $60 bucks for a Elite controller. It feels great in the hands but I'm planning on replacing the faceplate. People, sometimes buying "broken" is good and I try to do it as frequently as I can since I was a youngin. You don't always have to pay retail!
