Trash Your 8-Weight: The Best Permit Fly Rod is A 9wt 

I caught my first 2 permit using a 10 1/2' 6 wt. From there on it's been 100% 8 wt.'s. Good content.

Been many days I was glad I had a 10wt in my hand. Had a ton of fun chasing smaller/medium perms on an 8wt.

🌴 well according to my best friend “ Mr. Wallet “ he says I have just enough money to buy a cheap graphite 8 wt 9’ rod , with a reel to match and an important fly line to punch through the wind , and it will leave me with just enough money to buy fly tying materials, money for gas and spare change to get a cold beer after I catch my permit. 👈🏼😎👍. 8 wt. is the best all around rod for saltwater. I go with and a 8 and a 9 and I end up catching everything on the 8. If I specifically see and big Jack, Tarpon, Permit or Cuda, I bust out the 9.

I have caught ALL my permit on an 8wt, though I carry a 9 and 10....never caught a permit on them though.
