Did you know that your passport has a secret way to help you protect your identity? Yep! Today I will show you the built-in identity protection and methods you can use to help protect you and your passport while you travel! I did not know that about the passport covers! (RFID protection) I keep mine in a holder that has a string that goes around my neck. With this kind, I have to take it out of the holder. It is handy at the airport to keep in on my body, but keep my hands free to check or move bags. I only use it this way for a very limited time and put the whole thing away safely as soon as I can. I know someone could grab it from around my neck, but realistically, they could grab it from my hand also.
I think it’s great that you have it around your neck and I think there’s very little possibility that somebody would grab it off of your neck. I think they’d be more likely to grab it out of your hand or out of a bin while you go through TSA so make sure you always have your passport in a pocket of your jacket or your personal carry-on😊
My credit card was skimmed at Christmas about 4 years and they ordered goods online valued over £1,200! Fortunately, my bank picked up on it. It was then that I discovered RFID sleeves and no longer have contactless on any cards.
I stopped using a booklet because of the need to constantly remove it for inspection. When you’re juggling a carry-on, backpack, purse, etc., it’s just an extra thing to deal with.
I prefer using a sleeve over not as a sleeve also protects against tattering of corners and edges. Not to mention keeping everything together like you said. 😊
I'm an Aussie and I've used a sleeve for about 10 years now. It doesn't take up much more room than the passport and as you said gives you peace of mind.
I’ve always been asked to remove it, so now I use a ziploc bag since my handbag has built in RFID. If there is ANY water damage on the passport it will be denied, and since I often travel to rainy places the ziploc keeps it from getting wet. I learned the hard way after getting caught outside in a hurricane. 😂☔️ I also keep my birth certificate and back up passport photos (and photo copy of the passport photo page and back cover) in a separate ziploc and stash it in a hidden pocket of a different bag with my back up credit cards. Back ups are useless if they are in the same purse or wallet that gets stolen. Love your videos!
Thank you! Great information on keeping the Passport dry! I usually don’t carry my passport with me just because if you lose that you can’t get back into the United States. Keep it locked up. Although I do sometimes carry my passport card with me because it’s credit card sized. I also do not ever take my birth certificate or Social Security card with me because if you ever lose that you would be in a world of hurt so they stay home. I do have photos of things up on the cloud so that way if I needed to access them, I could pull them up on a device. And I always keep at least one credit card with my passport locked up so that if my purse or backpack was stolen, I would at least have a passport and a credit card to get me back home.😊
I was asked to remove cover ever single time. Eventually went to a sleeve (much quicker). So true about the custom paper... while living in Indonesia, we made sure we never lost it.
Yes! That immigration paper is very important when leaving certain countries and I learned the lesson the hard way when I didn’t have it and when I went to leave, it became a problem.
Yes, I use a booklet style cover for my passport and put my debit and credit cards and license in there too. I had to take it out for scanning on arrival in Japan but then popped it right back in and that’s where it stayed until I flew home. Depending on the country, I just put that booklet cover along with my cash for the trip in my money belt under my clothes and then just have a small wallet with my cash for the day and subway/transit pass in my backpack or crossbody.
Thank you so much for sharing how you travel with your passport and other things! Have you ever been asked to show your passport when you’ve been out and about?
I've always been asked to remove my passport cover. Once I tried a clear one just for physical protection. The IO still had me remove it. So now, I just keep my passport in my passport organizer along with my boarding passes and that little immigration form that some countries make you fill so that they're all in one place.
I have a booklet and have been asked to remove it every single time except this last time in January 2024. Customs had some kind of facial recognition screen/tablet that I had to stand and look at and then I just walked right through without stopping to talk with the customs agent. It was pretty cool. I am ordering the sleeve you showed! Thanks for sharing.
I use a booklet for my passport. I have not been asked to take it out but, I always do anyway for stamps etc. I just found having a booklet handy to keep mine and my younger daughters separated and feel a bit more organized. Plus it is good to have to keep boarding passes inside with the extra pockets.
@@TheoryofSimpleI purchased two of the booklet ones! One for me and one for hubby. I like the idea I can add other important items and keep them together.
I really like my passport booklet since it can also hold vaccine cards as well as my TSA known traveler number information. It's also bright red, so I'm less likely to leave it in a safe or on a bed while packing. The U.S. passport dark blue is nice, but sometimes I wish it was bright orange or pink! 😁
I’m really glad you brought up the point of vaccine cards and TSA known traveler number. Those are important things to have sometimes if you’re traveling. Thank you so much for sharing that.🙏😊
I recently cruised from Australia to New Zealand using a passport cover. I was asked to remove it for inspection at border control. With rolling carryon and a backpack it was easy 🙂
I don't have a passport because the kind of travel I do is mostly road trips. I do have a passport cover because my vaccine card, med list and other important papers are in it
I have it in a sleeve but I also have a special long wallet that I carry a pen and extra paper I receive. This keeps me organized( the wallet is bright so it's very obvious if I leave it or someone takes it. Love your out takes❤
I use an RFID sleeve. It is so much easier for me. It is a paper and very light weight. As an aside, i renewed our passports early last year, and the picture page of mine is a hard plastic-like material. It never ever scans at customs! I have to get in a special line. Has anyone else had this trouble? My husband's picture page is normal. Thanks.
That is really interesting that you mention that about your passport photo page. I haven’t had a problem yet, but it’s not a hard plastic. Did you and your husband order your passports from the same place?
I do use a passport sleeve with, guess what? An rfid sleeve inside the passport sleeve! I know! Crazy huh? That was my setup before I got the new passport, so I never changed it. I stuff all the little papers I get in there too! 😊 I don’t mind taking it out!
I am one that hates having anything dog- eared so I keep it in the passport holder that has the elastic band to keep it shut. I also keep passport card, my driver's license, immunization card and a little extra cash in there. Mexico gives you that stupid little piece of paper which I always have trouble filling it out because I can't read the teeny tiny print. I thought it was very important so I always kept it in one of the slots in the passport holder. My friend says it a useless waste of time because they never ask for it back. Again I'd rather be safe than sorry! I keep it in the same zippered pocket of my fanny pack. I've never tried leaving it in its holder when I go through TSA or customs because everybody says they have to take it out. For once I listen to you guys! If I'm in a hurry, everything goes back in that pocket, zipped shut, and then I can reorganize it once I get to the gate. After watching this video, I guess I need to leave the little card at home. I take a paper copy of my passport with me internationally anyway. Or at least put it back in its protective sleeve and put it in my backpack for a backup. I did put a large paper clip in my passport this time because I hate the fact that they've put their stamp all throughout my book. I like their stamps all in order so I can look back and see the progression of my trips... In the order that I have taken them! They didn't say one word about my paper clip and he actually stamped it in the first open space as I had intended him to do! Don't know if it'll work for the next one, but we'll see. I have a trip to Aruba with some friends in June! Once again another excellent video and I learn something yet again! And I loved your bloopers!
Up until 2023 I used the passport booklet, especially after the pandemic because I could keep my vaccination card w/the passport. I was never actually asked to remove my passport but I just did so automatically. For my trip to Portugal in October ‘23, I switched to the side-opening sleeve that you showed because it’s a bright color & easy to find in my personal item & the vaccination card can stay in my wallet since it’s not usually required to show(I’m a belt-&-suspenders kinda gal).
@@TheoryofSimple Yes, if nothing else it takes up less space. I should’ve said that I appreciate the information about the information being scannable if the book should accidentally open: I wasn’t aware of that, so thank you!
This is why you should keep it closed and or in an RF ID sleeve until you’re right with the TSA or custom agent that’s why they only bring you up one at a time or as a family so nobody can be near enough to you to skim it😊
I like that idea! The Apple trackers are so nice to have😊💕 I’ll see if I can find a passport holder that has an apple tracker place holder! Thank you so much for sharing😊
It’s so funny that you mentioned that because I just ordered one and it just came in! I haven’t used it yet, but I’m gonna be going on a trip here in a couple weeks. I’m taking it with me.😊💕
@@srvsgal I guess it’s gonna be hard for me to test this if there’s not any cameras so my thought is if nothing happens and it doesn’t show me any cameras it’s either good because there’s no cameras or it doesn’t work but then again if it shows me there’s cameras I’m gonna be freaked out😜
@@TheoryofSimple The cover is a thicker stiff cardboard and the photo page is a rigid plastic. Also, the new passports have a letter at the beginning of the passport "number".
Thankyou so much for all your useful information. I had no idea Americans need visas to travel anywhere. Where could one look for that information? Thankyou so much. 👍🥰
I've always been asked to remove my passport cover, such a hassle. I got caught in a heavy downpour so now I store my passport in a resealable plastic bag.
Does your passport card have photo id? In Spain you must have photo id on you to show at all times. I have been asked to remove my passport from its cover many times. So now I just pop it in a zip lock bag when I travel.
