The second of a series of Travel Journal Sketching videos by Simon and Monica Roberts (Painting in France). In this video, Simon shows you how to paint 'in situ' at a cafe in Collioure in the south of France.
He'll describe the simple materials and equipment to get you started. Materials and techniques he's tried and tested over 15 years of Travel Journals. In future videos, Simon will show you step by step processes to produce loose and vibrant sketches for your Travel Journal.

thanks for these videos, they're very interesting and enjoyable! I'll try travel sketching this summer for sure :) might be a silly question, but how do you manage to film when you're drawing ? I'd like to film my process too

Hi Nina - Glad you like the videos. You can set up your camera on a tripod to film yourself but, I confess, it was my wife Monica filming this on an iphone attached to a handheld mini tripod.

Hi - I'd say start simple - maybe a landscape view or possibly a sketch of the front of a building. Something that catches your eye is always good!
