I had a big travel adventure. Travelled down from the North East of England to London and the lines were down. My friend and I were flying to Florida the next day. We just made it for the flight and we flew into a big hurricane. Going through Orlando International Airport, I was questioned by the customs, why was I coming to America, I said for a holiday and staying with a friend, they wanted to know the address, the address was in my luggage, which they took. However that was sorted out, when we met by my American friend came and sorted it out. There is worse though, we nearly got shot by the police. That was one big adventure!

Got on a train in Switzerland once late at night. I was very impressed; it left on the exact time the timetable said, but was very, very empty. Train pulled away, then some cleaners came through and started cleaning, but became agitated when they saw me. I don't think they were Swiss or German, and language was difficult, but I basically worked out they were surprised to see me. They gestured for me to stay put. The train pulled in. I stayed put, confused. The train had pulled into a train depot, down some sidings. The doors didn't open, then suddenly the train driver appeared down the carriageway. He explained, kindly, I was on the wrong train as I had read the "Weekend" timetable, and this was a weekday. He then proceeded to walk me all the way back down the tracks, about half a mile, to get me back to the station! I'll save "the day I shut down Belfast airport" for another day....

But the information on the delay was so bad we couldn't go anywhere because we had no idea when it would arrive. Also, it was overnight so we spend the night on a bench at Memphis train station!! When i was in Japan, it was Saturday morning and i had been out the previous day shopping for cheap electronics in Akihabara. Then at night i went out and partied and got drunk with people from the embassy and their friends, because it was my last night in Japan. I woke up hungover and barely looking out of one eye while i am laying in bed, i see the boxes of electronics from the shopping the day before. And my eye hones in on small writing on the side of the box " NOT SUITABLE FOR AUSTRALIA " It was an instant wake up, get dressed run down to reception ask for a taxi, rush to Akihabara and exchange the electronics for Australian suitable electronics, get back to the hotel, shower, pack , check out and get to the airport before i am too late for the flight. I made it by the skin of my teeth.

I guess the worst thing happened to me (which is actually not that worse) was forgetting my phone in a taxi to the airport in istanbul last year, on my way from istanbul to cappadocia. At the first moment it was a nightmare (flight tickets, etc. on the phone), but a nice turkish man helped me calling the hotel i stayed in and ordered the taxi from and also calling my phone laying in the taxi. I got it back only 15min later.

I love it that you are so honest about the problems and difficulties of travelling when they occur because it is helpful and a warning to us less well travelled folk. It's good to know in advance what can potentially go wrong and have some idea what to do about it. Your vlogs are educational. After a decade in which travel was not an option for me I hope to go to Paris later this summer which for me is a big deal. I'm so looking forward to seeing your films from Vietnam as it looks like a beautiful country but I've only ever seen glimpses on the TV news and then only in the context of war and politics so it'll be great to get a closer view of the real place and people. I live in Bristol UK where you have visited.

If you travel, you make mistakes. I went to Manuel Antonio and didn't realize I needed to pre-order tickets for the National Park but also wasn't sure what we would be doing. I've only got two major international trips under my belt but I've learned quickly two things: Not everything will go right and you'll never see it all. Thanks for the great videos.

There are so many things that can go wrong in traveling to another country. Especially when you don’t know the language. My first international trip was to Thailand. Our flight from LA to San Francisco was delayed landing due to fog. So we got sent to another terminal and so when we asked where the international terminal was we got sent to the wrong entire place. Waited in a long line and found out it was wrong so was sent to another wrong place. Fortunately the third line the person knew what was up and expedited our bags and told us to run because it was about 10 mins for the flight to leave and it was a 15 trek to the right terminal. So we did as she said: RUN! We made it. Barely. Layover in Japan. As they called for us to board for our connecting flight we fortunately thought about our luggage. And turns out it had only been sent to Tokyo so they had to go search for our luggage and send it in the flight with us. Fortunately all I brought was carry in but my travel partner had a big suitcase she had checked. 24 hrs of travel later we get to our deluxe hotel. It was a whirlwind trip but met people who I’m friends with to this day. Had amazing adventure in Bangkok, Phuket and Singapore. It spurred me to return 15 years later after my cousin moved there. From it I learned to travel light, be open to new cultural experiences and meet people. That’s what it’s all about. So awesome you are embracing that philosophy and hot to see the world from a new perspective. The misadventures just makes for better stories to laugh about later

A few years ago I was traveling to Bulgaria to get a new violin from a local violin maker. On the night I arrived I checked into my hotel and had an amazing time getting to know the violin maker and his family and choosing a violin. The next day when I went to pay for it and check out of my hotel it turned out that my whole bank account had been locked and I didn’t have enough cash to cover more than dinner. I let the bank know exactly when and where was traveling so this was a huge shock. When I found out I called, emailed and visited local banks to with no luck, but thankfully the violin maker Isaac was incredibly kind. He literally just gave me the violin I had chosen, payed for the bow I was also buying and also gave us enough euros to pay for the hotel and meals until we could regain access to our cards. When we got back to America I promptly repaired him for everything but I will never forget his generosity.

What a day indeed! My worst travel so far was zig zagging through the US. I was supposed to fly from Sacramento to Chicago to Barcelona. Due to bad weather, they sent me from Sacramento to Phoenix, from there to Dallas from there to Chicago and then from there finally to Barcelona. At the end I took the flight to Barcelona I was supposed to take but only had 10 minutes to run from Gate to Gate and was the last one to board the plane. I feared that my luggage was still in Chicago but everything went well and I arrived home on time. It was a crazy day but at least I made it.

For me, the craziest experience was a couple of years ago in Katowice Airport, Poland. We just got called for boarding everyone jumped up and started queuing as this was before the days of allocated seating. Our plane was literally in front of us but the check-in screen suddenly said Check-in Suspended, we got no information at all until we saw a massive tire on the back of a truck being taken to our plane. To top this off an elderly man from the queue decided to smoke and activated the automatic fire alarms and we got evacuated. Surprisingly we still managed to land on time

Well, It was my first time in America when I was 18 years old and with my mom, my flight got cancelled to the city I went to due to a heavy snow storm( never happened to me before) and the gate agent didn’t know when I could hop on a next flight (I remember she said maybe 5 days). My phone did not work, my mom and I had to run in/out of security check more than 4 times to find a piece of paperwork (didn’t know it was online back then). So yeah, that’s pretty much my first flight to the US.

Worst travel day? My husband and I were moving to South Korea for a year and decided to stop in Australia for two weeks before we traveled on to Korea. 48 hours before leaving Australia for our new home in Korea, my husband lost his passport. Long story short, we spent the whole night looking for it and most of the next day at the American consulate in downtown Melbourne. Thankfully, I over-prepared and had copies of our passports and made him get extra passport photos at a post office. We were able to get an emergency passport that he could renew for a regular passport at the American embassy in Korea. Still one of the most stressful experiences of my life.

Our flight to Toronto was delayed 8 hours and on the verge of being cancelled and due to poor weather all week all the flights out of Windsor were booked solid for the next 4 days! Ended up getting to Toronto, squeaked onto the last flight to Winnipeg, around at 3:30am instead of 6pm and had to sleep in the airport until 7 am when the rental car place re-opened!

The officer was weird as we all have visa entry, but still told him to go to a room for interogation :o I who the first one who noticed something was off, went to him and the officer, trying to explain in japanese, as much as I could. Where they dont really speak english... We ended up interogated for 1 hour or so, and the friends also went into the interogation room to show all the hotel bookings, the flight booking back to home country... The morale: just queue LOL especially when they dont really speak english well...

I used to travel frequently for work and have had many missed connections and cancelled flights. My most memorable flight was returning home to Boston from Barbados on a charter. The plane did not have the range to reach Boston nonstop and had to stop in Puerto Rico to refuel. After refueling we took off and began circling the island. The pilot announced that the radar was not functioning. Normally planes are not allowed to fly over water without radar. They were eventually given permission to continue to Miami. The charter company was sending a part for the radar from Cleveland to Miami. We landed in Miami and got off the plane. After waiting about four hours in Miami the radar was repaired and we continued our flight to Boston.

My worst travel day: Started in Minnesota, landed in LA with a four hour layover. From LA to London, trying to get to France. First mistake was going on a one way ticket to save money. Second mistake was not realizing that the Schengen countries have certain requirements for tourists Long story short: spent about 15 hours in the air, Heathrow border agent didn't like what he was seeing, I spent about 30 hours held in a back room of the airport for suspicious travelers, being questioned by border agents, and then was sent straight back to LA They wouldn't even send me straight to my home state, only the qirport I flew over from. So i still had to buy my way home.

@Craig But really what he saw was a single traveler with a medium amount of cash and no return ticket with only a loose idea of when I was planning to fly home. They asked if I was being coerced or trafficked, or if I was planning on staying in Europe. They had a dog sniff me and my bag, they dug through all my stuff, you know. I understand that I was displaying a couple red flags, so I get why it happened. But it still sucked.

Thankfully it all worked out for you. 2006, I’m not sure if this is worst or just inconvenient but thanks to a fire on the I-5, I missed my flight from LAX to JFK. When I finally got to Heathrow, my plane to Madrid Spain was lost for two hours and then showed up. Nobody could explain what was happening. By the time I got to Madrid, the airport was closed and was told I couldn’t stay in the airport. Had to find a hotel for four hours. Finally arrive in Juarez to NO luggage. My baggage was supposed to be checked all the way to Juarez....uhhh noooo. Somehow it went to Barcelona and I had no clothes for work for the next three days. I was carrying three laptops and had no room in my bag for any type of clothing. Thankfully, the very nice ladies at the hotel washed my clothes along with my sheets! I will never fly Iberia again.

He boarded the right train for Peterborough, his home town then promptly fell asleep and woke up in Edinburgh in Scotland...it was the last train so he had to stay overnight, cost him a fortune in hotel fees and fare back..funniest of all though was that around 6 weeks later he did exactly the same thing again...lol...not the brightest spark bless him... :D

It shows your experience in travels around the world to be able to think quick, search for solutions along the way and not let your spirits down, but man oh man, I am sure you felt the stress. That big bed in the cottage is also a nice change from your tiny, tiny apt in Hong Kong. And adventures in Australia forthcoming ! So awesome and can’t wait ! ❤️

It's actually good to see mistakes made and the stressful consequences. Educational for others who want to go to Vietnam. We also learn about the process, which if you got it right we probably wouldn't, so job well done!!

I have severe anxiety, so I overplan everything when we go abroad. Worst thing was probably in Pompeii, we thought we had 5 minutes left before getting back on our tour bus. I wanted one more gelato, like an idiot. We turned around, and our group was gone. I was able to get another guide from the same company to let us on his bus back, but then our guide came back for us. Had to make the walk of shame onto the bus. Our Midwestern buddies (we kept ending up in the same excursions, so we became friends) gave us crap for the rest of the trip.

WHAT A STRESSFUL MORNING, glad you guys made it. at least we know now that we should always have a ticket out of the country... and a visa for vietnam :D great vlog guys!!!

All of our crazy travel adventures involved vacationing with extended family and small kids. There's nothing worse than a year old with an ear infection on the plane, in the hotel room, and in the Maui ER. On a lighter note we did get junior pancakes from a local cafe after we told the waiter the ER doctor prescribed them. Apparently ear infections run in my husband's family. I have no idea how we survived those 15 months or so until junior was old enough to get ear tubes. This may be why we only have one kid.

Hey Eric and Allison you are not dumb regarding the visitor's visa. Being a Canadian traveling from Manila to Vietnam I was unaware that one was needed (was not informed by my travel agent). I ended up paying (along with many other travelers) about $175 USD for one upon arrival - this took over 3 hrs to process! To make matters worse I landed on a national holiday so everything was closed - needless to say it was not a great way to be introduced to Vietnam

Amazing and so ingenious of you to have problem solved on the fly like you did! My biggest travel snafu with kids in tow, was to think we could offboard a cruise and get to airport an hour away in time for flight.. WRONG... in spite of getting off ship super fast, we were literally 5 minutes late for them to check our luggage. The guy said he was "locked "out (we were still 45 min away from flight). Soooo we had to reschedule and it was spring break. Ended up having to stay at a airport hotel overnight and then take a flight home the next day with layovers... sigh... wont make that mistake again!

Interesting to learn about the VISA issue you had. I first learned about your channel (since subscribed) when looking for Stockholm reviews since that has been my only travel outside US and Canada. Last December on way back from Sweden I lost my small travel bag that had my passport as I was leaving for the airport. I had to remain in Sweden fro a couple weeks until I could get replacement- not such a bad thing as it could have been since I had very kind relative put me up. When I go back to Sweden next time, I plan to use the Busabout outfit that provides hop on-off service through Continental Europe, dropping off and picking up at hostels. I find your videos well edited, entertaining, and have useful info not provided elsewhere, and have recommended your channel to fellow travelers.

Don't forget you need a visa for Australia. There is a thread on flyertalk where people will process it for free for you as long as you agree to donate to charity or do an act of community service.

We are planning a trip and just discovered a couple days ago that it is one of the countries that require a tourist visa. So when I saw in an earlier video that you were planning on going to Vietnam, my husband and I mentioned that it was also on that list. I feel bad I didn’t make a comment then. It would have given you 2 days notice. I’m glad it worked out for you. The place you are staying in looks amazing.

Ugh I was stressing for you two. Glad you made it. I went to Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay in October 2018 and had a great experience. I want to go to Danang and Saigon sometime in the future. You must try the egg coffee in Hanoi. Sometimes the police randomly pulls drivers over to check their license. That happened twice on a few tours I went on.

No major problems for hubby and I! But we haven’t done extensive international travel like you. You two are awesome and truly adventurers! And still young enough to do so much more! We are going for a month to New Zealand in October by way of Hawaii-( Thank You God for opening the borders for us! ) a dream trip for me! We were supposed to go in 2018- I know this is an old video- but your Vlog is so entertaining and informative! Love watching you two! Happy travels! ✈️🇺🇸🤗❤️

Wow, that was a super stressful travel day, but thankfully all worked out in the end. I have been lucky when I traveled: a few times running through the airport to make a connection, but never missed a flight. Your accommodation in Vietnam looks lovely; can't wait to see what you have been up to.

I had no idea that I would have to pay to leave Venezuela (this was in the 1980's) I got to the airport and had not one dime to give to authorities. They ransacked my suitcase and found some tea leaves and threatened me ("maybe this is marijuana?") I believe they thought I was holding back, that I had some money, someplace and just didn't want to pay the exit fee. This was before the time of debit cards and I was not holding back. I was a young, stupid, poor, student traveler and I literally spent every dime during my trip. They finally, reluctantly, let me get on the plane but it was scary.

My mate an aircraft engineer suggested the tyres on the plane we were boarding looked a bit on the flat side. The ground staff overheard and checked them out. They cancelled the flight due to a safety issue. It took them 3 hours to get the tyres inflated and reinstate the flight. Whilst it good to know such things - I try not to fly with him anymore.

Once got caught in a snowstorm a motorway on the way to the airport for a trip to Berlin. The motorway became too dangerous and they had to shut it down overnight which meant we were camping in the car with no food, water, heating and worst of all no where to pee! We missed our flight and were unable to cancel our hotel. A year later, and we attempted to get to Berlin again as part of a campervan tour of Europe..... but then the van broke down and cost so much to repair we had to head home after only 5 days on the road! That hasn't stopped our travel spirits however as we just spent two weeks in Berlin as part of a month long tour of Germany! Finally made it and totally worth the effort. Absolutely love the videos and they have inspired us to keep travelling and see as much of the world as we can! Love you guys!!

My friend and I were on a cruise to Mexico. We stopped off @ Cozumel for a shore excursion. I almost couldn’t find my passport, which was hidden in the bottom of my backpack. Fortunately, I found it and they let us board the ship. A very close call. Thought I’d lost it completely and would have been stranded in Mexico

Mistakes happen, don't worry about it. Worst moment in last couple of years was being one of the first to have an eVisa for India, stopping for transit at Munich on our journey there and them refusing to let us board to India because they had never seen an Indian eVisa before. Family in tow, couldn't get wifi or 4G, personal email blocked by airport computers. Managed to convince them with 5 minutes to go. BTW, that homestay looks good, but it was a long way from everything, right?

We traveled from the Maldives to Sweden via Sri Lanka, UAE and plane switch in Amsterdam. It was supposed to take quite a long time, about 22 hrs incl 12 hrs in Negombo airport, but it took over 40 hrs! Delays both in Sri Lanka and UAE (6 hrs in a plane without AC...) and an extra fuel stop in Larnaca. We arrived at Schiphol many hrs after our connecting flight had left. Of course, when we finally touched Swedish ground our bags were lost and it took 3 days to get them back. But definately something to remember :) This was back in 1991.

Last February I went to Peru and took a bus from Lima to Cusco. It's an overnight bus trip and everything went fine until we were in the countryside about 40 miles from Cusco. The local Quechua population decided to stage protests that morning. It was over a change in water rights. They protested by cutting down trees over the 2 lane road that leads to Cusco. They were also rolling boulders down the steep hills that run along the road. Our first interruption lasted for 6 hours until a huge tree could be sawed into moveable pieces. We got through that mess and 4 miles later we encountered several boulders and a few huge trees. Passengers were getting off the multiple buses, cars and trucks that were now backed up and helping to clear the road. We finally arrived in Cusco 21 hours late after a total of 8 road blocks. It was a nightmare because we were out there next to huge hills and worried that they might roll a boulder down the hill at any minute. Got to my airbnb covered in mud from head to toe from helping to clear the road (forgot to mention it was rainy season and it was raining like a waterfall throughout this ordeal) and the owner almost didn't let me check-in. I explained to her what happened and it was all good. I was never so frustrated and impressed at the same time. I'm happy the Quechua people are able to fight for their rights so effectively, but being on the other side of it was truly a nightmare.

The place you're in now is certainly bigger than the last apartment. My travel days certainly haven't been as potentially disastrous as yours, a couple of times I've almost missed a flight through late or canceled trains. Thankfully I haven't (yet) travelled anywhere I've needed a visa.

I used to be in that situation. I forgot to book hotel and onward ticket when I flew from Hong Kong to Bangkok. I managed to book it on time while waiting in line to go through immigration. It was almost an hour long queue. You know it's Bangkok, people favorite. Somehow they did not ask me a single word. But better safe than sorry

I few the exact same route when I traveled to Vietnam 11 years ago, brings back memories. My most recently dumb thing was on Heathrow express, had only the ticket in the app with 1% battery on my crappy phone, luckily I had a powerbank with me, but then you had to have internet access to be able to load that crappy app of theirs and I couldn't get on the wifi. In the end I had to turn on roaming and could get the ticket to load right before they checked the ticket.

We've read that it is really difficult to get in country with a drone, especially when entering through Hanoi. Though maybe you could shed some light! Thanks guys! Looking forward to the rest of your Vietnam videos!
