🙋🏼‍♂️ I´m Daniel Bryn, a RU-vidr, adventurer, photographer and ex engineer from Oslo, Norway. I lost my job as an engineer in 2016. Lucky me I guess! Only place I have been robbed in Cape Town was on Long Street. Too many tourists and buzz to check your surroundings. I completely agree with Joberg being very unsafe.

Excellent insights! I’m always drawn to the more “dangerous” locations and want to do some sort of photo journalism in those types of places but there’s always the hesitation of something bad happening. Being aware is the best advice for that I’d suppose. Thanks Uncle Dan!

another important element of safety is how hostile locals are toward photographers. For example Dakar, where I live, doesn’t have the crime rate of JoBurg, but the population does not look kindly on people with cameras. You risk confrontation even photographing buildings , not even people

Yeah, it all has to be taken into account - Great think phones nowadays are excellent for stealthy photography in dodgy cities, hey?

Good advice uncle. Yes, Johannesburg is a big no no. Not a place to even dress like a tourist. Rather dress to blend in so no shorts. One RU-vidr was recording and a robbery was going on behind him only for viewers to point it out in his video. Crazy!
