Great video! Always lekker to get info about some of the more remote destinations. I believe that this particular park is also a wildflower hotspot in the spring-time. Thanks for sharing!
Timing is very important if you want experience the flower season which is in August and September. Glad you enjoyed the review! Thanks for the feedback 👍🏾👍🏾
We really enjoyed it, very peaceful. Was hoping we might see a dwarf adder, although very unlikely and difficult to spot. Thanks for the positive feedback! Appreciate it 👍🏾
Would be nice to pick up a diamond! I have no idea what one would look like though amongst all the quartz on the beaches. We've stayed at Die Houthoop in Kleinsee, although that is outside the park. Not sure if that's the same venue you have in mind.
Thanks for the info!! I think Moggy will probably skip Namaqua lol, she's not a lover of the wind 🤣🤣 Still a beautiful stretch of coastline though, very reminiscent of Namibia
My significant other is also not a big fan of the wind. It is a beautiful coast line though 👌🏾 We met people there that have been camping there, every year, for over 40 years!
Thanks for a great video we are busy playing our Xmas trip. Do you have to check in at the main entrance office or can you use the dame gate as you did north? And go straight to the camp site?
Excellent! Any tips on coping with the icy wind off the sea which seems to be a constant feature of Namaqua. Presume you were using your usual ground tent? See any scorpions?
No scorpions this time, but have seen some previously. We always put on closed shoes though after dark as a precaution. This is our second visit to Namaqua NP. The first time we had a poly tent which was not at all suitable for the wind. It was noisy (lots of flapping and buffeting) and the frame was not sufficiently rigid to withstand the wind. This time we had our trusty ripstop canvas tent. Huge difference. Metal frame was rock steady. Taught canvas was largely quiet. So the tent is a significant factor. During the day the sun was enough to counter the wind. At night though a wind-breaker type jacket is good to have. The wind chill factor is more significant than the ambient temperature in my experience. So for example a light wind breaker is more effective than a fleece type jacket. The wind is part of the fun though 😁 Thanks for the postive feedback on the video. Glad you enjoyed it!
In my experience, yes the west coast generally has clear skies in the Namaqua and northwards. There can be morning fog from moist ocean air but that clears fairly quickly. The fog is a significant source of moisture as you go futher north and enter more desert type environment. It's a winter rainfall area. I haven't been there in winter though so can't comment on that. Hope that's helpful 👍🏾
You also get a map which shows where the soft sand is, so you know where to expect it. I think an AWD drive is sufficient to get around. The tyres are a bigger factor. If you can let down the pressure that greatly increases traction. I did not use difflocks at any point. So basically was driving with open diffs which is less effective than an AWD. Tyres down to 1.2 bar and using mostly 2nd gear to keep the revs up.
