This is life changing! I had no idea this was even possible! I have been the planner on this trip, and this will be great to share with my hubby. He's usually the one who gets us around wherever we are, so now he'll know where to navigate to. THANK YOU!!!

I did this for the first time in 2018 when I went to Japan and it was the most easiest/convenient way to get around. Now I make sure to do it all the time traveling. Although I've never actually built out maps on google, I just save all of them on my google maps app on my phone. It harder to make day itineraries because of that, so instead I organize them out of my preference of importance. Your way is definitely a lot more structured and less chaotic. For anyone else reading I would definitely recommend Staring key places on your map like your hotel, airport, meeting locations, etc.
@SheRunTheWorld
@SheRunTheWorld 10 месяцев назад
So good to know!! Yeah that’s probably the quicker mobile solution to just star it all directly on your phone if you didn’t have enough time to make it before hand. And great tip, definitely starting key places like your hotel is important! Thanks so much for your comment :)

I stayed at the Orange Drive Hostel in LA, and they had one of these maps available for guests to see the sites. AMAZING! I didn't realize they are so easy to make! Game changer. Thank you! I'm in the planning stages of an 8-night trip. Am I crazy? Three nights in Edinburgh (car rental to Glenfinnan Viaduct and Highlands on one of the days), train to Liverpool for 1 night (I'm a Beatles fan), train to London for 2 nights, train to Paris for 2 nights. The Eurostar has been on my bucket list for years, and I'm looking forward to driving in Scotland, so this trip has a lot of, "getting there is half the fun" about it. 🙂

@@SheRunTheWorld I'm traveling with my 30-year-old son, who was a Harry Potter FREAK when he was young, so the trip will definitely be filled with MAGIC. haha Thanks for your helpful videos! I think for London, we arrive late afternoon, so we're going to the HP studio that night (what a trek!), then possibly a city bike tour the second day. We catch the Eurostar in the afternoon on the 3rd day. For Paris, I thought we'd do a Seine River tour that night, then wander aimlessly the second day. We fly home on the third day. I've been to both London and Paris (1980s), so I've experienced most of the touristy sites. My son's only request was the HP stuff. He's not big on museums, and I'm like you about going inside the buildings. The outside architecture and scenery is stunning on its own. Best example in my opinion is Amsterdam.

Fabulous vid. You taught a lot of info in only minutes. I'd like to know how to review a location, in street view, BEFORE starting my trip to see if it's, for example, in an unsafe area. When I'm in street view, I can tap the arrows that display on the screen to visually see the streets ill be on. However, tapping those suckers (the arrows) moves me down each street very slowly. Is there any way to navigate the streets faster? I appreciate your thoughts.

I personally just do this when I’m planning an itinerary for a trip, but I’ve also heard really good things about the app “TripIt” you put all your flight, hotel, or excursion reservations in there and it creates an interactive map itinerary for you to follow. And while I’m traveling I use “TravelSpend” to track my budget!

Hi Brittany, I really like this video! I run a Photo tour company in Singapore and I can’t tell how many people ask me every day “What can I do in Singapore “ … It’s hard to imagine spending so much $$$$ for a trip and not doing any research on what to do. It's helpful but I'm wondering if it can also map out the route. For example, we flew to Vegas, stayed down in Boulder for the Hoover Dam, drove over to the Grand Canyon, spent a couple days there then drove over to Monument Valley and spent a couple days there (with one day driving over to Page AZ for Horseshoe Bend and Slot Canyons. We then left Monument Valley and went to Moab UT for CanyonLands and Arches NP, then over to Zion for a few days, then back to Vegas. It would be nice to see the distances and time to drive between each major area.

Thank you for this but I thought it would calculate the distances between the locations? So you know if you can do all the itinerary in 1 day?
@SheRunTheWorld
@SheRunTheWorld 5 месяцев назад
You can do another layer of the map on top of your pins called “directions” and click one pin as Point A and one pin as Point B to see how far. It’s usually pretty obvious once you’re looking at the pins though if you’re able to do it in one day!!

Such a helpful video! Thank you. We’ve tried changing the pin color on our saved map on an iPhone, iPad, & Mac, but on none of them can we find the option to change the color of the pin like you did. What are we missing?

Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. Hmm that’s a good question I don’t think you can edit the saved map on your phone or iPad. But not sure why it’s not working on the Mac. I always am editing my map on Google Chrome on my MacBook Air and it works just fine for changing pin colors or any other edit!

can these created maps be accessed offline? i remember i tried using created maps for travel a couple years ago, but it is not very easy to use for navigation purpose. i don't remember if it is because it is a couple more clicks to away or it doesn't pull up when i don't i have service in the park. after that, i simply starred the locations, and worked fine,,
@SheRunTheWorld

Really? I find them very easy to use when I’m traveling! But yeah you can download an entire city offline, by typing in the city on Google maps app, scrolling over and clicking “download offline map” Then when you pull up this map with the saved pins you should be able to easily access it since it’s within the downloaded area!

@SheRunTheWorld
@SheRunTheWorld Месяц назад
Hi! Honestly I never use the layers, but I’d imagine you’d just click on the layer in your app and the directions would automatically pop up But it’s super easy to not have any layers, just all pins, and when you’re in the car just click the next pin and get directions! I do that with walking all the time :)
@christianachris9197
@christianachris9197 Месяц назад
@SheRunTheWorld Thanks for responding :) For some reason, I created one layer and I could add directions there and I chose car, but since I am doing a massive trip ( 3 countries with our van and 2 brompton bikes ) I thought to create diferent layers for each city, a layer for each big city with the directions if I will visit lots of sightseeing by bike. I'm not sure why I create a layer and have no option to select any transport, but the only option is to draw a line, which I think is silly. Maybe I am over complicating and should not bother with directions🤔.

Hi! I’ve never done this but I believe if you download the area on your map as an offline map in app, then load the map you’ve created while on wifi/service, you should be able to use it freely offline when walking around The key part is loading the map while you’re on service though because you won’t be able to view all your created maps offline
