I love that PDX is now a destination to admire and explore all by itself! I can't wait to travel back to Portland to hang out at and explore the beautiful new spaces!
I'll be excited to check it out next time I fly into Portland, but they're out of their minds if they think anyone will be heading to an airport terminal just to hang out 😂
Did you interview anyone departing from or arriving from the B gates? They would have a different opinion of the changes. Even though the "temporary walkway" is "temporary", it is going to be a burden for the next two years or more. The traffic pattern of arriving from the B gates and going to baggage claim is long, serpentine and simply dumb. The wood ceiling is nice and all but not worth the expense and the airport is actually worse than before all of the changes.
It took me 21 minutes to walk from gate E12 to parking space F4 and I only had a carryon and didn’t stop to get bags. Then it took me 15 minutes to drive home. It’s a long hike……the moving walkways are gone. Looks okay, but not user friendly. Out of towners think it’s cool, locals who fly a lot hate it.
oof... you must be part of the self-protected class of "government" tapeworms... GFY! Anyone who isn't just wants to leave your dumpy tax slave colony FOR GOOD!!!
@@surferdude44444 You do realize the terminal isn’t finished, right? I don’t know what you’re referring to regarding moving walkways - none were removed.
@@pacmanc8103…..you are wrong. The terminals B-C connector to D-E terminals had two long moving walkways. If you come in on an Alaskan flight and have to connect with a Delta, United or Southwest flight………15-25 minute walk. That’s okay if you’re in good shape, but a lot of people have to walk at a slower pace (they don’t need wheelchairs) and it’s a walk. I asked the PDX volunteers about this and they said there are no plans to install any more moving walkways. Their number one complaint from travelers is about this issue alone.
@@pacmanc8103 …..you are wrong. The connector between the B-C terminals to the D-E terminals had two long moving walkways. They are now gone with no plans to reinstall them according to the PDX volunteers who provide help and information at the airport. Long 20-30 minute walk from an Alaska gate C23 to a Southwest gate E10. The PDX volunteers say this is travelers number one complaint.
@@surferdude44444 How many people do you think walk from the end of Concourse C to the end of Concourse E?! (They aren’t terminals, they’re concourses. The terminal is the entirety, with concourses and the terminal core.). And the bigger question is why? No one connects between Southwest and American. I know all about the PDX volunteer program - no need to try to educate.
not even that bad anymore calm down these types of comments were understandable back in 21-22 but now people have tried very hard to fix it up and have been successful
@@Killamoth700 Huh, not even that bad anymore compared to what ? Portland is still disgusting ! I see naked people meandering around aimlessly, stores locking their products behind plexiglass from thieves, people passed out on the sidewalks, bike paths like the spring water trail are full of zombie camps, go drive by 122nd and ne Burnside. Give me a pair of your Rosie colored lensed sunglasses. No, Portland is still a shit show !
Love how the media is spinning PDX as amazing. 😂 The "new" PDX is a full 💩show. The "under construction" version was VASTLY superior due to the no-nonsense approach and minimal distance between car and plane. The current PDX takes you on a journey to get in and out of. If you have mobility issues, know that you will need to walk about a mile to get in or out. That's not an exaggeration. TSA at this airport is STRESSED. They are rude, and short tempered, and many are not fluent in the primary language of the country they work in. This causes a cycle of miscommunication and rudeness from the staff. The bleachers to pick up arrivals is a weird bottleneck gauntlet to get through. Shops? Pfft... They're so far away from anywhere useful that they may as well be outside the airport. The main thing people want when waiting for a plane or traveler is snacks, drinks, food, and travel sized souvenirs. Instead, the "mall" is filled with the most useless consumer goods an airport can have, and LONG lines at the above mentioned useful shops. Whoever is "voting" this airport so highly must have stock in it.
@@pacmanc8103 And that matters? Tell me exactly how that matters? Everyone using the airport for YEARS will experience it in this current iteration. Their own website has a pop-up to make sure you acknowledge the fact that you will need to be walking great distances. The stores? Is it the stores? The empty stores that no traveler needs or cares about? The TSA that somehow takes longer with new machines and hidden areas up the escalator? Hmm... Maybe it's the waiting area bleachers? Sure would have been helpful if that information monitor was 100 feet closer instead of awkwardly in the middle of the walkway where nobody cares to look at it. This will be PDX for the foreseeable future. What it looks like in the future is no consolation to current travelers. The future model only shortens the walk and adds amenities that do not serve the greater percentage of travelers. It's a 💩show. They prioritized their own ideas and convenience without regard to the customer. If that would have translated to better service that would have been fine, but even the floor employees are frustrated and fed up. Store owners and staff are all moody because they are stressed out about how much money they're NOT making. "New" only matters if it's better.
@@silverfeathered1 I’ll tell you exactly how it matters, genius. At the end of next year, the exit from the concourse connector will close to the bleacher area will close - it is temporary. New exits will be from the area currently under construction at each end of the terminal, where the old TSA checkpoints were located. Passengers from the D and E concourses will exit from the north end of the terminal and those from the B and C concourses will, exit from the south end of the terminal. New escalators will be installed for both of those exits to the baggage claim below. The distance will be cut by about half. Of course, if you took the time to actually look at the new terminal diagram, you’d see that. Instead, you’d rather just complain. And, btw, the terminal won’t be in its current state for YEARS as you assert.
@@pacmanc8103 The PDX website specifically says 3 years. Sit down. As someone that uses these airports regularly, and with first-hand knowledge of what's going on, these changes have ZERO qol improvements for travelers. Go talk to any employee in the empty stores and ask how amazing the new pdx is. Go wait in a line to get a snack if you aren't in a rush. It's meant to "look" nice. It's not designed to function better.
About now homeless people are starting to camp out around the place. Welcome to Portland... PDX was an amazing place 30 years ago. Today.... It's a s**thole.
