➡️UPDATE: 2/21/24 from my man Sam:
Oh My Goodness!!!
I'm completely blown away that we've reached our initial goal with 3 weeks left in the campaign!!!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
The project is funded!!! Any additional money we raise will go toward filling some specific, practical needs. So, here we go...he project is funded!!! Any additional money we raise will go toward filling some specific, practical needs. So, here we go...
Stretch goal #1: If we can raise an additional $2000, it’ll go a long way toward buying a new computer. I’m very much a drive-it-til-the-wheels-fall-off kind of guy. I try to wring every drop of usefulness out of everything I own. Our old, second-hand laptop is on its last leg and fading fast. Why so much for a laptop? We’ll be using it to run recording software and to edit video. Both of these chores require a hefty amount of processing power and memory and those things come with a bigger price tag. A new computer will let us be more efficient in creating and uploading content.
Stretch goal #2: If we raise an extra $3000, We’ll buy a new computer PLUS, we’ll be able to design, develop and purchase additional merchandise to sell on the road. CDs are on the edge of becoming completely obsolete. As a consumer of music, I love streaming, as a creator, not so much. There was a time, in the recent past, when we could count on bringing home a thousand dollars in CD sales after an event. These days, we might sell a handful. It takes between 300,000 and 350,000 streams to generate roughly the same money. We’re happy to develop and sell t-shirts and other merch- it feeds another part of our creative selves- but it involves extra time and expense. This goal will help us to do that and to turn some money into some more money.
Again... THANK YOU!!!!
About me... connectedatthehit.com/
I moved from Memphis to Nashville in 1989 with the intention of becoming a full-time songwriter. I spent my first year here working at a little music store during the day and writing/ co-writing, meeting other writers and publishers and going out to hear great songwriters play after work!
Luckily, by 1990, I was signed to my first publishing deal and I was able to spend all day every day writing songs and soaking up the incredible creative energy of the Nashville songwriting community.
It took a couple of years but my first cut was by Bryan White on his million-selling debut album. In the years since then, my songs have been recorded by Montgomery Gentry, Little Texas, Ricky Van Shelton, Johnny Rodriguez and more. My name was in the little bitty print on a good handful of records!... I was actually a “real” full-time songwriter!
Then the digital age arrived. Money from the sale of physical copies of albums (CDs) began to disappear and, after a decade and a half of being a full-time writer, so did my publishing deal.
Thankfully, my wife and musical partner, Templeton Thompson is an incredible artist (and songwriter) and we were able to transition from songwriter mode to road dog mode! We’ve traveled a million miles (probably more) together playing every kind of gig you can imagine from house concerts in someone’s backyard to the Astrodome! We’ve made a bunch of music over the years with me as producer, co-writer and sideman. I’m in the fine print on all of Templeton’s records and I couldn’t be more proud of the work!
Why this, why now...
I’ve always kept a few songs in my back pocket that I thought, one of these days, I’d like to record. So here I am putting the finishing touches on my new project! It’s called I Go To The Water. I'm really grateful for this collection of songs. I've written some of them by myself and some, I've written with incredibly talented co-writers.
Funds from this Kickstarter campaign will be used to recoup some of the expenses of recording, paying for manufacturing and shipping of the record and related merchandise and to keep the lights on here at home.
It’s pretty scary reaching out and asking people to support this project (especially since my name will be in the big print on this one) but I’m really proud of the songs and the way the project is shaping up. The music biz is full of some pretty serious ups and downs and I’m so grateful to the community of people who have supported me through it all.
Thank You
I’m offering perks for various levels of support and I really appreciate those who are able to contribute at higher levels but, just know, every single dollar counts!
I hope you’ll consider helping me bring this batch of songs into the world!
