I did my first solo trip to Korea last year for a while month as well. All the things you've experienced on the first day were a repeat of what I went through myself. After the first two days, you'll be fine, navigate using Naver maps, and if you're feeling down, take a trip down to Haeundae Beach, Busan.
It’s like you already know my next vlog & itinerary… cause Busan is literally next after first 3 days lol 😂 Thanks so much for sharing your experience & watching! ❤
We'll be hitting Busan on the 7th! You got this, keep going, head up, and I'll support you with positive energy from whatever-other-area we'll be in here in Korea lol
@meagandelrose looks like from your second video. You were there late September, I was actually in Korea for a solo trip again this past October 20 - 27th to celebrate my one year trip. We could've met up at a cafe and then hung out at the Hangang river.
@humblymai oooooohhh thanks for pointing that out, I was wondering when this was filmed. That would have been cool for ya'll to have crossed paths or met up!
@zoesimien4649 You'll have lots of fun in Busan. My recommendation for transportation is definitely utilizing the bus over the metro, Busan metro can be a bit more confusing compared to Seoul.
its actually illegal to record peoples faces without consent in Korea (an absolutely beautiful law imho) so that may be why people are staring as they see the camera as an invasion on their privacy!
Hi! Yes I also feel uncomfortable filming other faces without consent. That is why I went to a corner to film that part 😊 Since I just got off the plane, the people staring are actually more foreigners. I noticed Korean people just smile at me when I am filming myself. Thank you for your note & for watching the vlog! ❤
What a great travel vlog! I had the exact same existential crisis sitting on the long train ride from Incheon to Hongdae last week, my first time ever in Asia, totally alone and more jet lagged than I've ever been. It was more terrifying than the first time I left the country a decade ago at 19. Not sure why Korea felt so intimidating those first few days but now I love it.
Thank you so much! And yes I can totally relate 😂 It definitely feels intimidating at first, especially if it’s your first time in Asia and don’t know the language. But people from Korea and around have been so helpful and kind! Thank you so much for watching this first vlog ❤ I hope you have a wonderful time on your solo trip!!
I feel the same! I left my country to study abroad having never been out of the country before. Now a decade later, I get so nervous thinking about being in a different country alone. Crazy how reality catches up with us the older we get leading to a bit more worry our younger carefree selves were not concerned with
omg the subway with all those bags 😭 there's a bus service from the airport to different landmarks in seoul. affordable and no hassle, i've never done the arex ever since the limousine bus. also, love the insight about how traveling alone magnifies your problems instead of making them go away. but really, i just had to embrace it. i've been traveling solo since 17, but there's something about being in my 20s that made solo traveling more of a time to breathe and sit with my thoughts. really glad i came across this vlog, and to one of my favorite places to travel to as well :'-) so excited for the rest of ur trip! really love your vlogging style, it's like if a journal was in video format ??? LOVE LOVE LOVE
Thank you for the tip! I think I just got a little too excited to take the Subway 😂 it actually wasn't that bad until my very last station when I couldn't find anymore stairs or escalators lol... will likely take car next time from airport. Yes definitely agree with embracing the discomfort! That is so awesome that you've been able to solo travel since 17. I hope you gain even stronger insights solo traveling in your 20s. Hopefully more money to spend when you're older too hehe 😎 Thank you so much for your kind words and taking the time to watch my vlog. Means the world!💕
Just came across your vlog (not sure how), but just wanted to say you're doing amazing and thanks for sharing. I've been travelling solo for the past 20 years, spent months in the US, South East Asia and across Europe and it's by far the best experiences I've ever had and it teaches you how strong you are. I realised after a while that 99% of my fears were just inside my head. Remember the greatest experiences in life happen outside of your comfort zone. Stay safe, have an amazing journey, make unforgettable memories and don't be afraid to try new things! Wishing you all the very best, I'll be following for sure! ❤
this video made my heart ache ( In a good way 🤣) I was in Korea earlier this year solo and I was never the same after it! It made me feel so confident in myself and it made me feel like I could do anything! That feeling of getting off of the plane in Korea is indescribable! have so much fun!
Transfer at Taiwan from US to Korea??? Hmmm. Well, it's sure was a long slingshot! BTW, I live at Gangnam and work near the place ur staying(Seolleung Station). I always try to take the airport limousine bus when it's possible. Reason, the seats are way more comfy and I don't have to carry my luggage rolling a long way on the streets. [Airport limousine bus - taxi] is my solution. Although it takes more time and money than airport express subway.😊
Hi. Enjoyed watching this video. I will also go to Korea alone and travel next month. This was a helpful video. I will also probably feel isolated like you when I go there. But still, I bet it will be a great eye-opening experience. Take care!
Welcome to Korea! I wish you have only great time in my country! I know that sometime we should have a lone time with no interference of others in a way to think back and over what we have done so far^^ I just hope that your experience here in korea will help you enjoy your future life and enrich your future. Only have a safe trip~!
Thank you so much!! 감사합니다 🩵 Seoul is a beautiful place to spend time alone and think back on life as you said! Korea and the people have been so kind and generous to me. I will make great memories here and meet more people. Thank you for watching my first vlog 😊
I was hoping to watch more but this was the only vlog on your channel ! Subscribed and can’t wait to watch the rest of your vlogs. Btw, I’m also from the bay area. 😊
Thank you so much for watching & subscribing fellow Bay Area friend ❤ I just uploaded Day 1 vlog! I will work on editing faster haha 😇🏃🏻♀️💨 thanks so much again.
OMG I really want to try doing a solo trip to Seoul next year and I’m thinking of buying plane tickets this week. It’s so intimidating😅 but your vlog gave me some courage ☺️. Excited to see the rest of your experience!
Yes do it!! I highly recommend 😇 It’s definitely intimidating the first few days, but it will be so worth it in the end. Thank you for watching! I will be sure to share more ❤
Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos from Korea. Traveling there solo in April. Would you do anything differently about your luggage (size, amount) after your arrival experience? I want to travel light with a capsule wardrobe that I can wash if needed. Trying to keep it to a carryon and backpack.
Hi! Thank you for watching and thank you for this note. I am fully aware that this seat is reserved for elderly, pregnant, disabled, injured etc & like any public transportation - I will move right away if there is someone is in need of the seat more than me, no matter how many bags I am carrying. For context, this day was during Chuseok, I sat there this time because there were very little people on subway for the holiday. I could have sat in regular passenger seat but I did not want to disturb the very few passengers on this train with my bags and camera too. I hope you can understand, thanks again! 🙏🏼
When your doing Vlog in public people are looking at you it’s like your doing something of course not everybody do. Because they are not doing it so they feel it’s not usual. People are staring and looking and everybody is looking like it’s first time they see people blogging
i am still 10 but i am planning to go to united kingdom all by myself after i graduate college and i will feel same too alone, and nobody there but for me tbh uhmm it's like your different from others but from god you are the same to him as usual and my parents said i need to build a house and a car and that's what we promise eachother😔😇
행복한 서울 생활하시길 바랍니다. What will following your initial You-tuber film here in Korea is that you are likely to find what you want to be or to do in your entire life. What it'll be going on here in your story is so beautiful and engagng. I wish you so happy in Korean.
omg I loved this!! this is gonna be me in a few months! I felt butterflies while watching this it was so relatable all the things you said and experienced tranferred through the screen. It's also gonna be my first solo trip and I'm gonna stay for a long time aswell. it's gonna be so fun to prepare myself with following your journey!!❤
Thank you so much for watching!! Truly sharing my honest struggles on the screen 😅 Where are you going?? I hope you have an amazing time and be safe! It'll be worth the it 💕
I am little confuse way of thinking and way of doing your plan. You looks so unhappy face. I am sad you are not happy even you are on happy vacation. Many people can not go for a vacation. Simply the money and time. But you are so special. Because you have money and time to go to special vacation. Btw good video.
i'm a 20-something who lives at home and I arrive in Seoul on the 30th haha i'm also going solo but for a 2 month stay, i've done this before and its a good time! i hope you enjoy!
The only thing better than 1 month is 2 😍 Gotta love home but cheers to our solo ventures! I hope you have an even better time the 2nd time around. Thank you for watching!
Randomly stumbled upon your video thanks to YT's algorithm. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the realness of your vlog (which also has just the right amount of humor) as well as your self-awareness and maturity. Totally made me nostalgic of my many trips to Seoul (often solo) during the previous pre-pandemic decade. Since this video was posted over a month ago, I assume you have already figured out that seats on the subway like the yellow one you sat in @6:43 are reserved for pregnant ladies, the elderly, and handicapped folks. But since you were traveling with multiple pieces of luggage, it looks like the locals gave you a pass thankfully (no bombastic side eye as far as I could tell). And yes, kudos to you for vlogging while traveling solo in a new country where you aren't fluent in the language!
This just showed up on my home page and I'm glad I clicked, really enjoyed the chill vibes of this vlog. Looking forward to the next episode. Good luck and enjoy! ♡
Very humane. Lovely video as well. If given the chance, I'll also be doing something similar to what you did, although I'd be in Korea for longer. Will definitely keep up with your new videos. These moments when you feel stuck or numb that sometimes happen when you leave your comfort zone should be in more videos, because sometimes people only want to show the best partst and people might have an unrealistic view of what it really means to travel alone.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! ❣Yes these vlogs definitely capture the good and beauty, but also very much the sweat and struggle of solo traveling 😂I hope you get to make that solo travel happen for yourself too!
Hello, I'm not sure if this will still reach you cause it's been 3 months already but this Vlog is sooo comforting! I'm gonna start my Seoul adventure on the 3th of April also fully solo and first time on top of that. I'm so nervous and I also got a bit of anxiety but I try to get a lot of knowledge in advance so that I'm not gonna have a full blown breakdown on the other side of the world haha- but I believe that it will help me grow and get more confident, I'm very excited. Next thing is that I'm also very close with my parents and I think they're more afraid than me 😂
It took some time for sure.. the beginning was the most challenging. But it's worth it! You can do it too 🤗💞 I will continue posting my journey. Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you! I used a Sony ZV-E1 and my iPhone + small tripod. Whatever it takes to get the shot! Place it quick & just go for it 😊 even if it’s on your phone
I just found your channel & I really enjoyed your way of narrating 🤣 I want to be learn to be comfortable with vlogging in my travels as well and your video gives me that needed ✨oomph✨ you go girl! enjoy korea!
After my first solo trip in 2010 I very quickly learnt to pack very light. Bought back a lot of emotions but the best one is when you finally make it to your room. Great vid. Cheers.
Funny how you said "walk out to my fans like an idol"...... there were fans when we landed.....we JUST missed V by coming through the gates 20min. Before him 😢
Next time coming to Travel the Korea ride taxi to go to a lot of luggage (not expesnive 1hr rush hour 38$ I think quite expensive but long time flight after use it not that expensive compare America) also Korea quite expensive country but compare state cheap right?
Yes I will definitely do that next time! I wasn't thinking too much.. I got too excited to ride the subway - so I did 🤣 Yes exactly, Korea is cheaper - still a bit expensive but America is more expensive.
Omg I like this video! You just jump out of the comfort zone,it will make you more mature and get you more challenge to let you better than ever before! Fighting!❤( forgive my poor English 😢)
So--lol, kudos to you on packing. We ended up having to add a checked bag because packing our lives into a single bag and carry-on was impossible. As it's cold here in Korea, we didn't feel it because we were sweating like crazy traveling a country-mile to get aaaalll of our bags to our airbnb, you did great!
