We rented a car in Bologna, Italy and drove to my 95th country, San Marino, one of the only enclave countries in the world which is completely surrounded by Italy.

They even won one time in history - the match against Liechtenstein in 2004, there they won 1-0. It is funny that they have nickname La Serenissima (the most serene), just like Republic of Venice in history. But other amateur national teams in UEFA, like Faroe Islands, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta and even Gibraltar are better than them. Vatican City has its national football team, too, but they play mainly exhibition matches against strange teams and have not that bad record, they were once coached even by Giovanni Trapattoni.

Hi Gabriel, the weather was beautiful driving through the small towns while going to San Marino. The pinecones are interesting of course there is symbolism regarding them fertility, renewal and growth, enlightenment, and spiritual awaking. The pinecones have also been used for medicinal purposes. They have used pine pollen for over 2,000 years.

Happy 95th country! I went to San Marino the very first time I went to Europe in 1981, such a tiny but beautiful country within Italy. Currently staying in Desenzano, Lake Garda. So many towns on the lake to explore. Absolutely stunning and not too crowded as yet, not sure if you have been there but I can definitely recommend it. Great to see you both enjoying Italy 😊❤️

@@lbunnygordon1133, between that three biggest Italian lakes, I was the most impressed by Lake Maggiore, especially because of the Borromean Islands, with Isola Bella being the best with amazing palace and park. But I have great memories from Lake Garda, too, because of Sirmione and especially amusement park Gardaland.

San Marino is not a part of Schengen, so if you stamp out of Schengen and into San Marino, then you might be able to bend the rules, and stay in Schengen longer if you are creative 😎

Interesting, didn't realize that but just checked and it's true, also Monaco and Vatican City. But with all those countries there is no customs, so no way to stamp out. And even if you could then you would be stuck in a tiny area. They're all worth visiting for a few hours, but that's about it, unless maybe you're writing a book or want to do a meditation marathon.

It is surrounded only by France, yes, but it is not an enclave as the southern border between Monaco and France is maritime (on the Mediterranean Sea), not on the land.

Monte Carlo is part of Monaco, which isn't technically an enclave country because it's on the sea, so it isn't fully surrounded by France.

Monaco is completely surrounded by France, yes, but it is not enclave because southern border with France is maritine, on the Mediterranean sea. To be one country classified as enclave, it must be surrounded completely by one country only on land.

"Marino" in the name of the country San Marino is actually Saint Marinus (Early Christian) from the island of Rab (Arba), part of modern-day Croatia, who fled persecution for his Christian beliefs in the Diocletianic Persecution. He was originally a stonemason but later lived the life of a hermit in holy contemplation.

San Marino Grand Prix (F1) in Imola was held in Italy in the region of Emilia-Romagna but was named after San Marino because they can't be two Italian Grand Prix in the same F1 season (the Italian Grand Prix is usually held in Monza, Lombardy), for the last 4 years the race in Imola is named as Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The same goes for Moto GP and Misano Circuit (also in the Emilia-Romagna region but close to Rimini) as the Italian Grand Prix in Moto GP is usually held in Mugello, Tuscany.

Yes, it is. Although Grimaldi family (with Prince Albert II as the Monegasque ruler now) has Genovese (Italian) roots from history.

So, yes, Monaco is completely surrounded by France and only France could block its borders in 1962-63 when Charles de Gaulle and Rainier III had argued (in the time when Grace Kelly was also there as the wife of Rainier III).

@@christiankeil7845 , OK now I get what you were thinking. Yes, Monaco is on the Mediterranean Sea and its southern border with France is maritime, on sea. So, yes, it is completely surrounded by France, but it is technically not an enclave beacuse enclaves are 100% surrounded by one country only on (in)land. I think that this comment from mhollick63 was based on Gabriel's thought of only 3 (inland) enclaves on Earth and it is correct, they are only San Marino, Vatican City and Lesotho.

Portugal is similar to Monaco, fully surrounded by Spain except that it's on the Pacific ocean, so not technically an enclave. (Correction: Atlantic ocean obviously, not Pacific.)

Monaco, yes. You could say the same about Portugal and many other countries that share a border with only one country but are on the sea or ocean. An enclave is fully surrounded by another country on all sides.

@@M-gq1bq , somewhat better in the ESC. They have been three times in the ESC Finals on Saturday (usually 25-26 best countries in the contest), with their best result as the 19th place. ESC Finals are somewhat similar to participation on the UEFA European Championship in football in modern days as there are also 24 best European teams since 2016. Additionally, San Marino was in the spotlight in the 2021 ESC as the American rapper Flo Rida joined Senhit on the stage, performing together the song Adrenalina.

He is aware of this and has asked the community if it bothers them or not. Personally it does not bother me but it’s just finding a solution obviously he could use a tripod stand but then he will gain more attention with the camera. If you see this Gabriel I’ve had a thought where you could just use the little screw in attachment that would then go into a bigger tripod and you can just hold that whilst recording as your hands will not be on the camera body directly…
