Oxford is a well connected city that's easy to get to by train or coach. Getting around the city centre is easy too. Attractions, restaurants and bars are all very close together so exploring on foot or by bike is best. Join Ore as she travels around Oxford and looks at the best ways to travel around this historic city. For more details on travel offers for Oxford Brookes students, or if you have a travel related query, please visit the Oxford Brookes University travel pages: www.brookes.ac...
Bikes are everywhere in Oxford and considered part of the Oxford experience. Not only are they great for your health, they're also good for the environment. If you plan to study or work here, buying a bike new or secondhand is a practical option. For visitors to the city, hire bikes are available throughout the city centre. These are cheap and easy to use. Download the app, top up your account and you’re good to go.
Oxford is easy to navigate, with lots of bus networks to get you in and around the city. Bus passes make travelling even easier, with daily, weekly and monthly options available. Subsidised bus passes are available for Oxford Brookes students living in halls. This pass allows free travel between sites on the BROOKESbus U1 and U5 services.
Oxford's train station (located in the city centre) has daily services to and from lots of UK cities. Getting to London by train takes an hour, and if you’re a student, you can get student discounts on train travel.
You can also get to London by coach. The X90 (Oxford Bus Company) and the Oxford Tube (Stagecoach Oxford) run all day and night, every day of the year. The journey from Oxford to London takes between 1½ to 2 hours (depending on traffic). Oxford Brookes students get a £10 return ticket by showing their student ID. Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted airports can be easily accessed by coach. These are also direct trains to Birmingham Airport and Southampton Airport.

Does the Brookes bus go through Kidlington? And do you have to live in halls of residence to use the Brookes bus for free or just be a student in general?

Hello Elise, Brookes busses do not go to Kidlington. U1 drives between Wheatley and Harcourt Hill via the Headington campus and the city centre. U5 goes between Marston campus, Headington campus, halls in the Cowley area and the city centre. For free transport, you need to be staying at a halls of residence. If you're a Brookes student and live elsewhere, you can get reduced travel around Oxford on Brookes busses and many other routes.

@@oxfordbrookes Thanks for the reply! How would I go about getting reduced travel on buses if I don't live in student halls of residence?

@@elisebowes8558 Once you're a Brookes student, you can use your University photo ID card to get discounted travel on Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach services operating within the Oxford City Zone (this covers Kidlington too). The card will also give you discounted travel on X90 and LondonTube coach services to London. You can also apply for a BROOKESKey bus pass from our Transport Services. There will be a small administration fee. You can then add credit for single journeys and discounted bus passes on your BROOKESKey. This can work out cheaper than using the ID card for single journeys. You can find out more on this page: www.brookes.ac.uk/travel/bus-and-coach/

@@elisebowes8558 No worries! Applications for the BROOKESkey are made online at brookesbus.oxfordbus.co.uk. Once it is available, we will email your Oxford Brookes email address with details of how and where to collect it. A valid Oxford Brookes University Photo ID will be required upon collection. Hope this helps! Here is the page if you need more information about it 😊 www.brookes.ac.uk/travel/brookeskey/
