We take the hard way out of Western Australia on the Tanami Track! 2 nights and 180 litres of diesel later we hit Alice Springs to spend the night. Join us as we check out Wolfe Creek Meteorite Crater and have a short look around Alice Springs.

I have similar, but a little older goldstre am camper that has a small (size of a snorkel head) hatch in the roof from factory. We open it on dirt and jam a small sponge in it. Creates positive pressure and keeps most of the dust out.

Yeah have narrowed it down to doing as you say and then also putting a switch on the fridge fan to turn off when on dusty roads as Doug has said above. I love the idea of a sponge in the hatch! As I was thinking of some way to filter the vent on the cheap! Cheers mate! 🍻

If your van fan is blowing outwards you are causing a vacum into the van

Suspected it would have something to do with the fan after trying almost all methods. Will be chucking a switch on the fan for the next time we go near some dusty roads! Cheers 🍻

Yeah, better off masking that vent with no fan running. Modern vans have this on the roof that pump air IN to the van to cause positive pressure inside which stops dust getting in, but they are located in the roofs of vans (out of the dust flow). Super valves do the same job and can be installed by competent owners.

Have just been on our first dusty road since then today and have no problems (yet!) have just put a switch on the fan, turned off and covered all larger vents and opened the scupper vent.

Yeah was spewing I’d missed it all even had it saved on Facebook events from a couple of months ago. Is such a a tragedy though and I couldn’t help but just not talk about it.

the Bitumen back in 2016 finished 79km west of tilmouth wells how far have they got now .

I believe they had sealed that day as it was a fresh road and we were on a side track from about 5-10km west of yuendumu. From what I can remember

What size motor does the Prado have? Your fuel consumption seems a little high considering the van isn't a large one? I'm getting 12lt per 100 from a 2.7 6spd auto ford towing an 18ft poptop single axle (diesel Territory)

Older 3.0 litre diesel 5 speed. I’m considering it alright as it’s lifted, running bigger all terrain tyres, roof rack and altogether with van it’s 5 ton, only just under gcm. Getting into the low 12s now where on a decent hwy
