Landing in the old airport in December was quite the experience. After traveling for 2 days with 3 kids and grandma, my husband and I had to search for our 13 bags. It took us over 4 hours and our car seats and stroller were missing. I’m so glad to hear that the process is improving.

Yeah! I had the same terrible experience too. I landed 0n dec 21 at 12noon via Ethiopian Airlines,I didn’t get out until 4pm. It was crazy 😂

@@drujay6869 ha! We also flew Ethiopian. Ended up having to stay the night in Ethiopia due to a missed connection. Made it to Lagos and spent the extra 4 hours fighting for baggage in the chaos. My husband said never again only direct flights to Nigeria for us.

@@Still_blessedlouise I totally understand the stress you n your family could have gone through. The thing is Ethiopia airlines is the only affordable airline you can get if you’re planning to travel in December, others airlines would be like you paying for first class tickets 😂😂😂

@@drujay6869 yes that was the main reason we picked them because for us and our three children and my mom In Law it was a quarter of the price compared to Delta, which is what we would have usually flown.

Thanks for bringing up that last point , it’s always nice to be polite and respectful to this officers and staff , I am always polite, and respectful to them, even if they ask me for money, if I have the money, I will give , if not , I will politely says no. And they are happily relax and say thank you. Have seen some people get aggressive, disrespectful and look down on them. Its unfortunate.
@MostlyPeacefulNinja

I disagree. That type of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated. Officers shouldn’t be bothering and begging people for money. It slows down business and deters people from doing future business. This is not the way. It has to stop. Serious people do not tolerate or endorse this type of behavior.

People should please let the Airport officials know that begging for money from travellers is unprofessional and very embarrassing for the country, especially in the sight of visitors. Some of us have traveled through many international airports and found that it's only in Naija that Immigration and Custom Officers beg travelers for money. If the government is not paying them enough to do their jobs they should ask for an increase instead of turning themselves into international beggers. This has to stop.
@sylviasworld9397
@sylviasworld9397 День назад
True, I agree but they beg because they are not paid adequately The other airport officials you meet internationally , is their salary a living wage? Every official lower government position in Nigeria known for begging are underpaid. Including the police. It is shameful and embarrassing, I agree, but we KNOW the reason they beg. Its not wrong for Nigerian travellers to maybe start a tipping culture before they are asked, begged or pressured . Staff won't be begging then, just receiving a tip. Same way in the US tipping is basically mandatory precisely for the very same reason. People are underpaid and it is common knowledge, so a parallel culture of tipping developed. People tip without being asked or staff in the US begging for it.

These “beggars” are often officers that come from other parts of the country. When you go to airports in other regions they don’t do this same foolishness… Lagos needs to build their own airport and start their own airline and the foolishness will end.

Thanks for sharing, good tips! Hopefully the airport experience continues to improve, that would be amazing by Nigerian standard. Don't know if you know the answer to this question. With you coming from the US, are you able to get a visa on site at the airport or is the only option to apply ahead of the time at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington D.C.? Thanks

Hello, it's easy now,..takes about 2 months in New York, and about $192 for 5 years. Just go on the website, complete your application, make payment and schedule your appointment for capturing. You can renew in Atlanta and Washington too. But make sure you have your NIN, if you don't already have you need it, it costs $60 in new York

I just travelled into lagos, and the airport officials were asking what I bought for them, I told them nothing. And they are still doing some kind of favouritism for those using foreign passport. The airport is still a disgrace, though. Virgin doesn't use the new airport, so it depends on what airline you use. I also had to pay someone to use a trolley to carry my luggage. Ridiculous and too much faffing about in lagos airport. Although as a young traveller from travelling g since the 80s, it has gotten better. I remember when the machine iin collecting your luggage was not working. Disgraceful and there the air-conditioning was not working.
