That’s Charles Kelly running Saban’s pattern matching cover defense. Requires defenders to read the routes and change their coverage based on the route being run. There is actually a video of him talking about it when he was first introducing himself to the team.
People who dont live in Texas or the south in the summer do not appreciate the incredible conditioning needed to play 147 snaps in 100f+ heat. It is incredible that he did that just from a physical standpoint. Ive watched football 30 plus years and that was truly truly rare.
This comment is absurd. Hot in the north is in no way shape or form the same as hot in the deep south with 100% humidity. Not to mention that there is never a day in the summer in Colorado which bears any resemblance to a summer day in Texas. I've lived in the northeast, the northwest, and the deep south. The comment was that people who don't live in the south may not appreciate what that kid was able to do, and it's spot on.@@efg1311
Great breakdown. Travis was phenomenal. Most people will never understand the game he played. He was 2 catches away on offense from 180+ yards and 2 TDs. He also could’ve had another INT that he had no business even being near that ball. Instincts are amazing.
Love the analysis! In all the highlights for the interception by Travis Hunter no one mentioned that he fell off the slant by the receiver and covered the wide open back! Wow! Then he had the skill to roll to ensure he held on to the interception. Not only that, he executed that after covering half the field to catch the running back who had broken away from the goal line to score!!
I saw Travis Hunter post a video showcasing his behind the scenes stuff before the game.. and During that Interception some TCU fan said "Throw it to Hunter!" and immediately Hunter picked it off and the camera guy turned around and said "Who said it?!" And the fan flipped off the camera 😂
What all upcoming teams need to recognize is that even after all the snaps he took, was how fresh he looked after the game. It really didn’t look like he even broke a sweat! Scary!
I think you have given the BEST criteria of this entire subject with out the slick attacks thrown in hands down very professional I really enjoyed it and agree with every word you spoke.
The minute I saw hunter’s pick, I knew he was something special. 99times out of 100 that’s either an incomplete pass or a TD. He was so wide open, then the gap closed like the gaps on the line during a run play.
Hunter STOLE THAT BALL! It was in the receivers hands! edit: Colorados offensive tempo and altitude will be the key against the Big Red D. Colorado will stack the box and play man. Nebraska does not have the offensive weapons to stretch the field! Hunter has 2 interceptions!
We called it "shake it" coverage for man to man defensive adjustments. The rule is if your man breaks in or out within the first 5 yards from the line of scrimmage you pass them off to the next defender while reading the replacement route that is coming to you and you make a play on the ball. If the receiver doesn't until after the first 5 yards, then you stay with him. This is an adjustment against an offense that runs pick routes, especially at the goalline. Also, when taught well, the DBs and LBs can have the autonomy to make the adjustments on the field and call it themselves, too. And as everyone witnessed on Saturday, it is beautiful when executed.
Yk what’s crazy about hunter everyone around him says how hard he works and he’s basically a football fanatic. He’s absurd and with how hard he’s working I think it’s only gonna get better
On reach the media post they where right there and TCU fans said throw at Travis and he comes up the a interception and the TCU fan where shocked and Darius said who said that but they were so shocked 😳 😂
Lmao. Ayy bro, I watched Travis hunter play in a high school basketball game… you could tell even on a basketball court this kid was just a different athlete . 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
As a lifelong Sooners fan I’m Very happy for your Buffaloes Joel Klatt I know you’re trying to keep it professional but you talked with so much passion about your football team you played for for about 3 years!! Can’t wait for this magical season

N coach prime knows how to unlock and inspire. It’s a feeling baby! We here!!
J.K. spot on analysis on Mr. Travis Hunter not only his TALENT...but his physical conditioning is Elite and superlative....Hiesman frontrunner at this point fo'sure. Mr Klatt...love your comment or "warning against complacency for the Buffaloes" spot on my dude. New Subscriber...keep up the Great work especially with the nuances like when you described expertly Travis on his interception. Bless up J.K. 🙏
so this is my first time watching one of your videos. I clicked on this one after watching a Flemlo vid with you speaking in response to Tom Luginbill and saying that he was "objectively wrong" about CU having the worst roster. Your analysis are truly top notch and I'm happy to have found your channel. Just subscribed.
Every coach has to deal with keeping their team focused after a big win. Prime has a dial on his team. He will not let them be satisfied. He will make sure their ready to compete. That you can count on.
CU first game of the season with ALL NEW coaching staff, with ALL NEW roster, and beat TCU at their stadium. It’s amazing how good the O was. The D and teams less so but IT WAS GAME ONE.
This was one of the most informative sport (football 🏈)shows I have listened to in a long time. Thanks for providing insightful information. God bless,
Excellent analysis and assessment of the game Mr. Klatt !!! Now we're going to find out who the pretenders are and who the contenders are. The next game will separate the men from the boys. Like Joel said Nebraska won't make the same mistakes. Go Buffs !!!
Many of you have no idea what it's like to be faced with so much oppression, doubt, hate and fear from people that consistently ignore your capabilities. That fight was what those boys from CU used to win that game and they will continue to win!!
Hahaha. Maybe they'd be better off in a place without so much "oppression" and "hate" then? Lots of similar opportunities for them on another continent maybe?
I just saw this video where Joe Klatt absolutely roasted this guy for saying that Colorado may have the worst roster in college football. Warranted, obviously. It was great.
GREAT BREAKDOWN JOEL, I GREW UP WATCHING YOU PLAY QB AT COLORADO AND YOU WERE ONE OF THE SMARTEST QUARTERBACKS I’VE EVER SEEN.. AND I’M AN LSU FAN.. I THINK COLORADO WINS BY 7 POINTS BUT NEBRASKA QUARTERBACK JEFF SIMS WILL BE HARD TO STOP!! AND THANK YOU FOR HAVING COACH PRIME’S BACK WITH ALL THIS NONSENSE THATS BEING SAID ABOUT HIM AND MOST OF IT IS NOT SPORTS RELATED BUT MORE SO PERSONAL ATTACKS ON HIS CHARACTER AND THATS NOT RIGHT.. THANK YOU SIR! 💯💯 YOUR DEFINITELY A STAND UP GUY AND WHAT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW JOEL KLATT, ANDRE GURODE, JEREMY BLOOM ETC ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHER COLORADO ALUMS TOLD RICK GEORGE TO GO GET COACH PRIME FROM JACKSON STATE AND BRING HIM TO BOULDER!!!
I disagree with you on your complacency thoughts. Coach Prime did the same thing at Jackson State and his team was always ready to play. Keep in mind Jackson State was winning on the averages 28 points or so a game. They will be prepared and ready. Let's not say that Jackson State is at a lower level in talent . Savion Wilkinson, Travis Hunter, Alejandro Mata, Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig Shedeur and Shilo Sanders all played at JSU, they also had 1-5 star and 14-4 stars on the 2022 roster.
I wish he would address the FSU vs LSU game. Colorado is an amazing story but will have 0 impact on the CFP picture. FSU needs to be talked about more and I'm not even an FSU fan
It was not man zone! Come on son.....if it was man zone who was playing man coverage and where was the zone? Depending on how you run it 99 percent of the time the cornerback is in man coverage. So you run the receiver inside and he takes the corner with him, and the running back is open. Also if you listened to the interview of Travis Hunter, unless he was lying he tells you he was in man to man coverage and he left his man.
did Deion match the hype or were they huge underdogs that no one believed in? Because I'm seeing 2 completely narratives now about coach prime and Colorado
Hey Joel many years ago I worked out next to you doing some cardio at HRCA down in Highlands Ranch. I didn't want to bother you but I would have praised your accomplishments as a walk on for CU.
WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE DIFFERENT NUMBER OF SNAPS HE PLAYED. LMFAOOO. I sure the official number is 129 bc he said his highest was in high school and was 130+ and he was a few off lol.
