I'm really digging SEA's S/T album. One night I decided to torture myself by transcribing/'Orbinating'/working out the most physically demanding tune on the record. You may notice me counting and staring at my sheet music, since I learned everything--literally--the previous night.
The pink shirt is a Screaming Headless Torsos cutoff. Be jealous! :)
The audio was mixed by my buddy Taylor Larson of Oceanic Recording.

Wow this is still ahead of every other metal drummer in my opinion. Like it’s all different but the speed at which you cover ground with locking in + changes is too fast haha like it’s always bouncing and makes sense but at the same time morphing. Not many people do that in drums because most want to lock in a groove for a while but you keep it in the pocket while twisting it and flattening it out and stopping to breathe and then moving on and on. The fact that the whole band is on par is amazing to say the least. So awesome Travis thanks for sharing brother

For this video, I had TLM103s as OHs, BETA 57A on snare, RE20 on floor, SM57 on rack, D112 in kick, Green Bullet as the room mic (I think it was mixed pretty low). The kick and the snare were fed into a dual channel Trident pre and everything else was fed into the pres on my RME Fireface (which is currently for sale, along with a 421, e906, Mackie Big Knob and a D6). Thank you!

For example, there are fifteen (sixteen if you count a quarter note rest) permutations within a regular four-note grouping of sixteenth notes. The subdivisions featured on the drum set in this tune aren't especially 'advanced,' or difficult, the tempo is just a bit brisk (allegro, heh).

Thank you for your kind words! I was born a 'righty.' Oh yah, I played a conventional setup for many years. I began playing open-handed in high school then (fast forwarding a bit) developed the quasi-open stance setup when I joined a pop-rock band in summer '05.

Dude that was very well done. Tight, great tone, very even rhythms. Reading and playing with technical parts like that is difficult. Say, do you have any practice/discipline tips for a guitar player looking to perfect his rhythm chops? It might be more of a question for Misha, but your skills are continually more polished with every vid. You've got to have a certain degree of focus to write all that down and learn it. Props.

Thanks! The longer runs could be better, but I'm working on it. The song's at 155, which would make the 16th triplets regular 16ths at 232.5, heh.

hey travis, in your videos and more noticeably this one...i see you turn to your left, look down and touch something real quick. are you changing the time of a click? making your mp3 player louder? haha something that deals with a computer? just wondering. still great drumming. SEA's new ep has me blown away every time i listen to it because of you. you take songs, and turn them into some of the most rhythmically challenging, yet pleasing music to listen to.

@PLAZ1990s i use axis pedals. may cost a bit but they can get your feet pretty freakin fast with enough practice. and you could do that with DW's just gotta practice. took me a year of practice but now i can play about 16th notes at 210 bpm now. takes awhile man

Greetings, Firstly, I resect your opinion. However, I have my reasons for leaving Periph; be sure to read my 'official statement' blog if you haven't yet. I am blown away with every vid I see of yours. The way you change right hand over left then left over right also doing the same with your feet using right foot for single bass go to dbls then using your left foot for single bass. IS there a practice tip or trick to learn how to do that as smoothly as you make it look?
