Travis! I watched all videos on this channel.Thank you very much ! Amazing work and very helpful. From time to time I check this analysis section for more videos but there are non for very long time now. I implemented better stance ( right foot in front ) , and circling to correct side depending on opponent. My judo momentarily good better. I think this videos of blue belts - to shoudan randori analysis are just priceless. This basics are so important. Why are you not making more of videos like this ?

This is great! Consider maybe doing something like that for some recent (the ones that were not too long ago) judo GPs? One got me puzzled is Dusseldorf U81 final. Khalmurzaev (somebody you know!) vs Grigalashvili. I was made a fool of in front of some of my friends - how was I to know 22yo Georgian kid is going to atomize an Olympic champion with such ease...
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 4 года назад
You have to take everything into consideration. He is an Olympic Champion in Russia he has a lot of other responsibilities to do now. He is not 100% focused on Judo. You can't maintain your best all the time.

Travis could you do something like this with Worlds or GPs if there aren't any licensing conflicts? Would be great to see your take on polished athletes, or even breakdowns of matches in your school. And props to Christian for throwing his hat in the ring like that. We gotta see him in his first round not the 8th go against the Mongolian, want to see that freight train with a full gas tank.

It's funny--just as we learn differently when we spar vs drill, I think we also learn differently when we watch narrated sparring vs narrated drilling! Great content! I bought Jimmy's first gripping course, and he says (obviously!) the same thing you do about gripping the sleeve side first. If I remember correctly, it's the same reason--you want to stop him from gripping your gi. Question: Is this the way everyone internationally does it? Or is this part of the American gripping innovation that you and Jimmy have mentioned? I haven't paid much attention to gripping in BJJ, and I've mostly gripped the lapel first because it moves more slowly than the arm. I guess I should change this up. :)
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 4 года назад
Most other countries focus on posting on the chest first to establish control of the chest which is backward from out style of gripping.
@jaehwan123

@@TravisStevensgrappling Thanks! That's what I thought. I don't remember ever learning that from my senseis, who were from Britain and Spain. But I'm transitioning to the sleeve side team!

First thing first, Travis you got this! I saw my own faults with this video and your explainations are up to the point! At the first situation is applying your previous video"when the grap you from your back/get over here"🤙 Second as huge as better😂😂 When you point with the mouse can you draw any marks, lines to define the area or the movement of hands?

Let me know what he uses. The software the records tends to only capture the window and not what’s above it if that makes since.
@jaehwan123
@jaehwan123 4 года назад
@@TravisStevensgrappling Good point. One thing that I notice about instructionals in general is that they're MUCH better if we can see the coach's face and expressions when he teaches. People tend to retain the information better. The voiceovers just don't have the same kind of emotional effect for learning. All of the really good teachers on BJJ Fanatics--you, Danaher, JT Torres--look right into the camera and tell the students what they need to know. If it's a choice between what you have right now and just the window with drawing capabilities, I'd vote for what you have now. But I'll see if I can find out what's out there. I haven't heard back from Firas yet. I'm not sure how active he is these days; Tristar has only posted a single video since this lockdown started. I can ask other people too.

You said left hand attacks, right hand defends. Even as a righty? Don’t I want to grab their collar as that gives me most control over them vs my left hand grabbing their sleeve?
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 4 года назад
Hey Smash, when you grab the sleeve you might have less control over their body but you prevent them from attacking as a righty all together by grabbing the sleeve. I'll shoot a video on this to help explain our thought process. There is a method to the madness.
