Hi Mark. I spent some time thinking about what you were saying as far as the JATO breaking. I played with mine for a year and figured out a setup in which I can be in a full speed second gear pass, then pull 100% on the break, and mine stays straight and stops beautifully within maybe 30 or less feet. It took me a while to get that breaking set up that way. But I mean if I'm only going 30 or 40 mph it stops even faster and it never spins or even fishtails. I put a lot of time and testing into my setup. 🙂
So I have my rear suspension way stiffer than the front. So what happens when I hammer on the break is the front dips down, then the rear tires have authority. After that is was just a matter of playing with the break adjustment knob until it had just enough force on the disk where it wouldn't send the vehicle into a spin. Now I have straight line breaking and I absolutely love it! But like anything else, you still have to take it easy and practice and learn the vehicle. 😄
My Futaba radio has ABS which pulses the brakes. I didn’t think I’d use it much but it makes a world of difference in slowing down my nitro touring car. May be worth a try on the Jato
The problem with the JATO is a lack of any functional brakes. ABS only helps if the brakes are locking the wheels up. What causes the issue is that the plastic brake lever softens when it gets hot and becomes too flexible, meaning that very little force is actually applied to the brakes. Pretty much the only flaw on Traxxas's most successful competitive racing platform in the past 20 years. Yes, I said racing platform. These things used to regularly make the A-Main at national-level events back when 2WD Nitro Truck was still a relatively popular class.
Just to compare, my JATO (started as a 2.5) has: - Titanium turnbuckles - Titanium hingepins - RPM Front A-Arms - Single-Speed Conversion - CVDs - Dynamite Platinum .12 Slide Carb Rear Exhaust Engine - THS Racing tuned exhaust and header - Pro-Line tires on Traxxas Lightweight 2.2" Nitro Rustler Wheels And I'm looking to upgrade the brake linkages to aluminum. The focus for this truck is track use, so a few of the upgrades were actually made to make the vehicle slower and more controllable. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, after all.
I have a jato fully upgraded and it won't quit so I don't agree with it's not good with anything but that's your opinion Hey and why u Don't sell it to me 😂😂😂
