@Razor RC Long time subscriber and I remember in the beginning thinking you were being unjustly negative to certain brand RC's. As time went on I realized I was wrong. I believe you to be honest, fair and extremely knowledgeable about modern RC's as well as the older ones.
At last someone with the balls to call this truck out for what it is, telling the truth. With real world honest testing. Even though Traxxas will probably be taking Razor off there christmas card list. Those that think this is just bashing Traxxas, do they not see or want to see just how poorly the Maxx Slash performed in this video. As we have seen many times, just how good a driver Razor is at bashing or track racing. When even he is scratching his head on the performance of this truck, dosen't bode well for the rest of less experience drivers.
@@fiatfixie4344 its his main thing. He is the guy who won earl moonhead limitless in a giveaway. Wont be surprised if he crushed it with a tire or something. Guy hates Arrma badly by the looks of it. It takes a lot of hate to go to comment section videos to talk down people. Been years that he does this he replies to people who dont talk positively of traxxas products. I remember him debating how the maxx at its original MSRP was a great deal.
You know I really wanted to give this a fair shot, watching videos before I considered buying it. I'm tired of people, especially in these comments, if you have anything negative to say, you're just an insert whatever brand fan boy. At this point most people have multiple brands and want BETTER from companies, it doesn't matter which. Constructive criticism and having people spend their hard earned money on GOOD products, so all brands do better. At the end thank you razor for making an objective video with valid reasoning, I appreciate your honesty.
Thank you for the honest review! No one else take about how bad this thing jumps but you, especially when their video shows that it only land 1 out of 10 big jump! Lol😂
After the first jump he said "the air control on this truck is GREAT!", and I just laughed because I knew what was coming... lawn dart, lawn dart, electronics cut off time.
This vehicle release was a big tell to see who is bought and owned by corpo rc. Normally the slimyness isn't too obvious and doesn't sting as much as this one. But the performance and design vs the cost had people feeling mislead. Channels like @3X7Outdoor gave it glowing reviews, only compared it to other traxass cars, and didn't even bother to run it. The balls to have it sit there brand new and you tell me it's the best thing ever and deff to buy one. Credibility takes a big hit, I hope people take note for future "reviews" Yep, everything is great! 😆
I’ve been impressed by traxxas before, they’ve achieved a lot over the last 10 years but man, as you said they are getting out dated in some aspects, incredibly overpriced for what you get. Just look at how much $700 gets you with a Kraton EXB v2. Great review as always! You are always a trustworthy source
Thank you for the honest review. I've seen other video of this performing horrible and they still say it's the best thing ever lol. Like really? We all saw that landing lol.
Order part 10234 for the front shocks. It’s the extension they use on the rears. It levels the truck out and gives you your travel back. It also handles far better and doesn’t tip anywhere as easy. My chassis was constantly digging in and slapping under any jumps or braking. Update…I installed the part above and adjusted the shocks. Fixed my jumper that was causing an issue. Got it running stable and now it rolls way less and lands far better. Got this thing running really good now. Tsm almost completely off. I’m having a lot of fun with this thing now. And has proven to be quite durable. Only broke the back bumper wrecking as a 55mph cartwheel that launched itself like a gymnast. Zip tie fix.
Yeah if they warrantied anything for me with my rustler it was a special courtesy. My tires just blew for no reason, driveshafts kept breaking every 2 packs. That was 4 years ago. At that time they sold their HD axles seperate for 8$ a piece... i wasted like close to 100$ in axles before i decided to stop because the rest of the truck was simply falling apart by just driving it on flat concrete
@@CSL33 i never jumped my rustler. Only time i did it broke an a arm and the air control was terrible. Brakes were insane strong. I only cruzed on flat ground like how an onroad car would... doing wheelies and such. I hit a small drain cover once did a bunch of tumbles and the front axles exploded. So yeah a 450$ garbage truck. Then got the kraton 4s v1. Car did everythimg on day 1 on the spot my rustler exploded his A arms. First backflips, first front flip. Car had issues wirh the clutch coming loose and the cheese Rear diffs because they were plastic and had plastic yokes. But it was well worth it at the time. The car did everything i wanted it to. Then i went further and got the exb roller. It did everything the 4s could but a lot better.
I'm just 5 min in and after the electronics section this thing is junk and I'd never spend $700 on it. Imagine a 6s truck that can't accommodate a 6s pack. I'm sorry but traxxas is a joke to me. This is the type of review you get from someone who is not a traxxas fanboy/shill. And I appreciate your honesty Razor
Very refreshing to watch a honest review. These videos are becoming rare. RU-vidrs are scared to give honest reviews on Traxxas cars because they know what that’ll bring. Plus let’s face it. The chance of getting on Traxxas’s creators list means your RU-vid channel will grow substantially over night. I am still considering this truck. But after watching your videos and one or two others. This truck just doesn’t seem to do anything good. I had saved up money for one, but ended up buying a Promoto MX instead. Anyway. Props to you Razor for doing the right thing and staying honest. The RU-vid RC market has too many commercial makers, and not enough true hobbyists.
Thanks, I appreciate that especially coming from you! I don't care about making money, or getting "famous" or anything like that, this is just something I do for fun and to help the hobby. Fortunately the channel is big enough to be self-sustaining, so I can do my own thing on my own terms. Appreciate the comment!
@willanderson5088 for real, the kraton 6s EXB is the same price/slightly cheaper. It's like $30 less here for the EXB vs the Maxx slash. I had high hopes for the big slash when I first saw it but after 20 reviews I was let down
Best review by far! 👏 I got a Mojave 4s, threw a 6s system and springs in it and was under $650 for the best all-around short course truck out right now!
Razer. I have the answer. As a product developer for a large firm, this truck reeks of product development concepts but without real world testing. Traxxas wanted to release a unique value proposition (as they should ) but they lost their souls and didn’t use good old real world common sense. I say this as a Traxxas fan and owner of several of them too. More over , this tells me where Traxxas is going as a company and that is not good, hopefully they right the ship.
I think they tested it -- it is durable, but they really don't focus on anything else unfortunately. Whether they don't care or they're unable to produce a decent handling truck, I don't know.
Got a Mojave 4s coming in in 2 days, im so stoked! I saw the maxx slash in my local hobby shop and was like oooooo, ahhhhh. But after watching 100 hrs of vids, glad I went with the mojave 4s. Kinda worried about that escs lvc issues but I got some gens ace 4s 6800mah 120c Batts for it. Hopefully all goes smooth. To the moon!
You could also buy a 6s notorious for $150 less than this overpriced, overhyped, SCT. I have a lot of different RC car brands. Arrma, traxxas, Losi, to name a few. But this thing is just a waste of money.
Deff not worth 700. Mojaves is a bigger, better truck comes with more it's faster and it's 100 less! Traxxas is a durable truck, but that's where it ends. I would say the truck is worth 550 tops!!!
@@AwakenedRC The problem is that all the bigger RC channels are infomercials, NOT reviews. Undisclosed sponsored videos are a huge problem on RU-vid. The problem is so bad it's actually illegal.
@@AwakenedRC Awe you're whining about people not liking your precious traxxas? Lmaoo how ironic. We're allowed to call it a turd and we're also allowed to not spend $700 on this junk
Traxxas got comfortable ,if the rc community stood up amd stopped buying these rigs they would see its time for a change ,this is the perfect time for team corally to fill that gap with something based on the asuga platform
Agree , while we all want the 6s senton back now , I’d build one from Mojave typhon but the body would be tough I think , the senton has straight cut gears like the typhon makes it very responsive and reliable my lhs had one hidden bc the place was messy packed , I went to buy it and after 25 years it was all cleaned up and organized, all the hidden old rcs were sold 😂 .
I’m not a brand hater, or a fanboy of any particular brand. I have Arrma and traxxas and Losi, etc. But traxxas, you’re missing the bus here. Arrma has recently been focused on giving us new, inexpensive quality models like the Gorgon, the granite Grom, and now the typhon Grom. People want durable and affordable! Traxxas on the other hand just releases “ultimate” versions of current models like the rustler, XRT, XMAXX, Slash, and gives them a MUCH heftier price tag. No thanks on this thing traxxas. How about some NEW MODELS THAT ARE MORE AFFORDABLE?
It's people like you that put 70+ mph on the Traxxas box even though it's BS. You do this with your speed "tests" of planes making huge power dives with 30 mph tail winds.
@@kimmern999yeah, you're right, why would I contemplate buying this for review other than to see how it compares to the Mojave and draw attention to my channel. What was I thinking..?🤦
I bought this truck the day it dropped and I really wanted to like it. Now I feel like Traxxas took me for $700. I should have bought the Mojave:-( The servo is trash, it traction rolls all the time. The tires are okay but for being the most expensive truck in the class it’s garbage comparatively speaking.
Mojave 6s way better. Built with suitable components. I’m sorry but it’s time that Traxxas started using components that are capable of delivering, and that are expected with such high price Rigs.
I am down to owning just one traxxas rc, the Maxx. I have sold all my other Traxxas RC's. Once this Maxx is trashed out I will not buy another traxxas RC. Other brands have stepped up and are better than traxxas and cost less to boot. Arrma, Redcat just to name a couple. Traxxas had their run, like Niki all you are buying is a name now. Thank you for your honesty and integrity in reviewing RC's for us.
Been looking to add a short course truck to my fleet and had hopes for this, but haven't been impressed with anything I've seen. Especially at the price point. For my money, it seems like the Mojave 4s fits the size, performance, price and fun elements I'm looking for quite nicely. If you can nab one for a super deal like Arrma did when they dropped the Fireteam to $400 a while back, it's an absolute no brainer. I'm in no rush to make a purchase so I can wait to see if a deal ever pops up, but if not, the full price for a Mojave 4s seems way worth it. Especially with how over priced the Maxx Slash comes across for what you get and how it performs in comparison. Great honest review on this one...2 1/3 stars feels like a very accurate rating.
I think the Mojave blows this thing away. Its cheaper, drives better, better electronics and im sorry but while this is durable so is the 6s mojave. I think it would be like a A vs a A+ in durability but id imagine they are pretty close in that dept. But you get so much more with either mojave it looks.
You can not put this thing on a table next to a Traxxas UDR (which is the same price) and say you are getting the same value/quality for the money. Two totally different trucks, but I'm just sayin...
Thanks, you get it. A lot of people don't understand my value rating -- it has nothing to do with the durability or performance, it's purely based on the components and stuff that comes in the box, and I would agree the UDR is a better "value". You get much more for what you pay for even if the UDR might be worse in actual driving and performance.
At the price tag no module , no metal gear servo is a shame... every review was like "OMG THE BEST TRAXXAS ETC!!", no honesty, kust dumb hype and lack of critisism...
I saw KT abuse the crap out of the Maxx slash and I'll say this : I've seen only a couple of RC vehicles take that kind of abuse without breaking something mayor. So in the durability, it's a solid 10 😂. Good stuff as always Razor. Thunder also beat the crap out of it too. Both of those runs were impressive
Nice review. Seems like Traxxas had to bring something to market to compete with the 4s and 6s Mojave. Maybe they rushed it a little. I appreciate you giving an honest review. Well done.
I’m a trx fanboy and I really want to like this car it doesn’t take but watching a few vids of this to see it performs clunky and way less refined then the Mojave
Wow, very interesting review. I am new to this hobby and its fairly clear that Traxxas is the big boy brand in the market, however I see a lot of negative reviews across quite a few designs. I hear much more positive things about Arrma and Corally. I guess Traxxashave built their brand on past successes and they do seem to have legendary durability. However from what I can see (as a newcomer to all this) is Traxxas is going to start losing out the other brands, particularly Arrma and Corally. I have a few RC ares now, including a Big Rock (massive fun and super durable), Zorro brushless (cheaper but still a great truck on 3s) and very recently I picked up a Corally Sketer for a great price which we haven't even run yet but it looks like an absolute tank. I have no plans toi invest in Traxxas despite the benefits you outline. Very much like your reviews, no frills just simple, honest reviews which are very informative. 😁
I love all the RC brands. But this thing just seems to be overpriced and overhyped. My 4s outcast would run circles around this thing on the jump track.
Just an avg joe here, & like the brand a lot with the website and local stores having everything cheap and easy. Never really a "basher" more of an ex-moto guy out here prepping little SC tracks and goofing off on a much smaller level. Finding the suspension to be a little dead for sure, i drooped the rear all the way but left the front. It REALLY reminds me of the 10th scale slash alot when the dirt is good and you get into some good laps. I really have fun with it TBH, but i can see going to tires immediately and finding a shock that works better. Also finding myself fiddling with the trim a lot more than usual, especially on the street.... oh and IDK but i don't think this thing has any business going over 50 lol with the X-Maxx servo you'd think it'd be more sturdy... i used the stock servo on an X Maxx for a good long time before getting the metal gear one, but that might be the go to here, too. So In my moto-style prepped dirt i really enjoy ripping it around on lunchbreaks. As much as it's like the 10th scale, i have to think i'll like it as much more as the 10th when i upgraded tires, so looking forward to that. Preload on the spring could go up more with a bit heaver oil maybe? we maxed ours out initially but i backed mine back out a bit.
I'll never own one that's for sure.!.. £760 in the UK.. I'm just not okay with being ripped off & having the p*ss taken out of me. And Traxxas are literally taking the p*ss with their ridiculously high prices & under performing equipment.! Thank you for telling it like it is mate.! Stay safe out there & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍 👍
I just want to know how much time was spent designing a bay that won't fit any non Traxxas 6S battery VS how much time was spent on the suspension and weight distribution that makes it drive so sloppy.
That esc was made for the sledge. udr and erevo have a different one, I think the esc is fine for a stock esc on the sledge, putting it in a short course doesn't make sense.
Oh boy. Traxxas being cheap and asking a premium price for their truck. Pick a mojave 4s or a mojave 6s. Theres just no point to get this for 70$ more unless you have all the uogrades fromt he maxx v1. This sounds like the worst rc car of 2024, plastic axles for that price, underpowered, too cheap to actually make new longer shocks for it and that alone is unacceptable. If they though this will rival the mojave 4s and 6s and potentially the mojave 6s v2. They are high on drugs. Wish another brand will show true competition to arrma and make arrma to innovate again. Arrma is pretty boring right now
Summary is Traxxas fumbled the ball 😂 But the real question is. Is it still fun? Lol For what already exists it's hard for me to like this as a vehicle to get (I do enjoy seeing others run it though) Maybe if the Mohave wasn't a thing this may shine (I doubt)
I appreciate honest reviews! What I dislike is the amount of petty and childish grown men bashing other people for liking what THEY like! Yall act as if hating Traxxas ensures extra oxygen at the end of your life or something. People will determine for themselves what they want to buy! Disrespecting others and making disparaging remarks about driving skills etc is petty, feminine, loser energy. Alot of you are Apple users and have dealt with lackluster, rehashed crap for forever but not Traxxas!! As with ANYTHING ON THE PLANET, it is all relative and you have the right to choose what you want. I appreciate unbiased reviews such as this one, give credit where it's due, and say what's not good about it. Then I will decide for myself what to do from there. But the level of maturity in RC from grown men is ridiculous 🙄
Kinda seems like a normal release for Traxxas, slightly overpriced with 'fine' electronics, but it's a great platform to build off of and it's pretty cheap to maintain being a lot of plastic.
So if they make better handling cars with better Electronics but the durability is not as good as the Traxxas, how often are they breaking, and how much are you spending on fixing them?
Be honest with the costumer any person that want to be in this hobby, this opinion is always welcome for me. Why. Because if you decide to spend that money and feel they steal from you, you will be mad. Be always honest. The hobby needed
Could this be the most controversial R/C of all time? It feels like it might be. Honestly that controversy is more interesting to me than the truck itself, I've just been grabbing the popcorn and reading comments. It's entertaining but I don't know what it means.
Just tell us how you really feel Razor, LOL. I think you hit it right on. Seems the Maxx Slash is a home run for Traxxas fans, unbreakable (almost), untuneable(virtually) at a price that's higher than everything else in class (typical TRX).. home run!!😉🤪😂
Why in 2024 anyone would buy anything besides the xmaxx from traxxas is beyond me, and imo the xmaxx is £500 overpriced, in fact it's ALL overpriced 10 year old crap Don't get it, I genuinely don't get it, there's so much better stuff out there, and for a good chunk of money less as well
Just got into the hobby and the sales guy said the max slash was the best truck they had now I know never trust the sales guys just do your own research and then make an educated decision.
Traxxas groundbreaking next release.....the Traxxas Maxx Slash V2 Wide. Free Ramen in the box to justify the $1k price tag. I'm not a psychic...just a psycho.
Insane !!!! Ive literally said the same exact things about this truck , ill be finishing what traxxas started , pathetic what i paid for a truck that needs $300 of fixing , list is to long to list , but i will not be buying traxxas anymore , they refuse to improve or change , but will gladly charge more for there stupid $15 servos n stuff , wow , but thanks for putting it straight for me , and others 🤟🤘💪💪💪💪💪
Part of the purpose of videos like this are to show the manufacturer how their product compares to others on the market. Hopefully they take that as useful feedback on areas to improve.
I've never seen a plastic drive shaft break around the actual shaft. It's always the joint. So if the hybrid remain durable, that means less weight. I'm down with that.
The Maxx Slash needs to come down $100. The stock suspension setup stinks, the stock steering is horrible and it also needs a heatsink for the motor, on 6s it runs hot!
If it was cheaper, then I'd consider it. But still, for me personally, I'd prefer the Mojave 4s/6s. It's just overpriced asf when compared to other competitors
Great review. Thank you. The fact is its performance sucks. Its priced at $699 because T knows a fool (aka fanboy) and his money are easily parted. Take the name off and its obvious this is a turd and no one would care its a turd. If this isn't a basher, and it certainly isn't a racer, what is it? Better left unpurchased is what it is.
Udr , xmaxx , trx4 best Traxxas vehicles everything else overpriced. Been really disappointed with traxxas vehicles lately, losi is my current favorite. They can justify their high prices with the scale details . I checked the Maxx slash out yesterday at my local shop, looks cool feels solid, buuuuut tooo much. If it was like 550-600 I'd say it would be a good buy.
I feel sad for people who pre ordered it and fried their wallet. But to be real if they just Cruze with it dont really jump it and dont care about the power and handling it should do well for them. But for the rest of people who are more serious i think this car should be avoided for the sake of ur wallet and for what you get until they make a v2
I watched the follow-up video. I understand what he's saying and actually agree with a lot of his points, but also responded with a comment on what I think he misunderstands about mine.
@@RazorRC I just can’t take anyone seriously when they are selling hop-ups on their initial video review of a car. Seems like a mypilow commercial. I still want one. I want to monster slash maxx it. Widemaxx kit it, tires,etc.. But I’m a glutton for punishment, pain and suffering .
