I wouldn't be surprised when those driveshafts break. The only thing that handles 4s/5s on my slash is the MIP driveshafts with the 17mm hubs. I have broken a pin but the shafts themselves are holding. Also from your video, those GTR shocks need different springs and modified pistons. You can see they are just to bouncy unless you give them some love. The Erevo white pistons drilled out with some VG springs makes it silky smooth.
So you had to buy the 17mm hubs separately from the actual driveshafts? Are you referring to the actual shock pistons out of the erevo? That’s the same size bore as the gtr shocks?
@@RCKnockout yes you have to buy the 17mm conversion separately from the driveshafts. While they may be on the higher end of cost, definitely worth it. Just look at there tools. As for the pistons, they are the traxxas vdk (variable dampening kit) for the erevo and they fit on the slash gtr shocks. They come with 2 holes so you need to drill 2 more opposite. I believe 1.3mm for the size. Get the vg springs and your golden. I fought those gtr shocks forever until I went to the traxxas forums and found this info. It's the best for the gtr shocks unless you buy different ones like losi or associated which would be 100 times better as they are race spec.
I imaginene running 4s on a monster slash, my main concern will be blooming and tires coming un glued. It will probly stress out the servo too so I'll replace that with a high end aluminum and steel geared servo that can handle say 80kgs. That will be a 100 bucks but probly worth it for them larger tires. Hopefully the rpm a arms will hadle them bigger wheels and tires. We shall see. I seen a guy add dual shocks to his Slash. I may need to consider that to help guide them 2.8 tires. Next month I'll know more when I can actually run it in 4s regilularly.
I have a slash ultimate with hobby wing max 10 3660 4000kv combo on 3s and I run a traxxas hardened pinion but 5mm. I think 5mm shaft pinions are stronger and less likely to slip off the shaft but with the 3mm shaft of the castle your best option is Robinson racing absolute hardened.
@@RCKnockout well I don’t have exact reason why it helps but I was losing pinion gears also on big jumps and summmersaults. Also was bending driveshaft, my Traxxas dealer at Hobby Time told me that part would help and I haven’t had anymore issues. Mine is the slash 4x4 ultimate maybe it’s different 🤷🏻♂️
@@mateo85tx well mine has been converted over to the LCG chassis now so it basically is a Slash 4x4 Ultimate….we will see if I continue to have problems…..otherwise I might have to look into that, thanks!
Just got some blockades for my slash 4x4 ultimate and 😱 I can see why you like them. They are so grippy and I think I’m going to start racing my car in Bakersfield at Rainmans hobby shop and track. Just ordered a protek battery too just for it and my drag car. Also, great choice on this build really loving it.
Why didn't you trim the body so the wheels won't rub instead of raising the body? Love the videos Just got back into the hobby after a decade and have just purchased a Slash myself so yeah your videos are giving me great ideas thank you!
Awesome man! I gotcha…..it’s not just the edge of the body that’s touching it’s actually rubbing in the fenders too….and I don’t really wanna cut the entire fenders off lol
@@RCKnockout Ok understood and yeah I've ordered those body post for mine because of your videos! I swapped out the ESC with a Traxxas 5-xl HD which I took out of my TRX 4 as it is 3 s capable so when I get used to that I'll go brushless but like I said it's been a decade and I'm older now so reflexes are a little slow so got take it easy lol! I will keep watching!
@@RCKnockout ya,lol! I don’t think it’s available anymore, and most haven’t heard Oba in person. I took it into a hobby shop and hit the throttle in neutral and they were like “wow! That’s loud!" Another guy at the rc track said man, that’s bad ass! Once you get used to hearing it, it’s not as cool without it
@@RCKnockout ya, we’ll I think they don’t sell it anymore cause I didn’t see on their web sight. I think guys would think it sounded fake and bless they heard it for themselves. I saw it on a video and the guy said trust me, the video doesn’t do it justice. It has 2 speakers mount on the inside of the body at the front and rear windows and they shake the entire body. The sound is the real recording of a 900 hp stadium truck v8. I found they didn’t last very long when mud got caked onto them. I replaced them and siliconed plastic from a gallon zip lock bag over them and that worked. It’s also cool that the transmitter side switch is neutral and engage, so you can rev it and then floor it and flip the switch and it takes off like launch control! I broke all of the axels until I put MIP’s on it, but then the set screws would come loose and ruin the fun! The fix for that was to drill out the holes a little in the output shafts, big enough for the MIP sized grub screw and replace them with ones long enough to go all the way through the shaft and stop just short of leaving the other side, the put the factory grub screw on the other side and lock them together!
Also robinson racing hardened gears can handle the power. Don't buy that Traxxas crap. I tried the Traxxas spiral cut gears which cost a ton and they don't hold up any better than the stock ones. Is there a reason why you went with that smaller motor and not the 1415 2400kv. The 3200 always got hot for me even with smaller gearing. Now I'm at a 20t pinion and no issues with heat
Ok thanks! No I just looked at the listed weight range and this fell within it….I felt like this was a solid kv to go with….so far I haven’t encountered any heat issues
Yo man, I wanted to ask you what are the best upgrades to do to make the MERV durable. I got a budget of 235$ but dont want to get a new car because that just means more problems to deal with. Soo, I already have RPM arms, centre diff, diff shims, heat sink. NOW i have 235$ left. Please guide me on what to upgrade and which parts work with one another. (for example, idk if i can install GPM CV driveshafts with rpm arms, Maybe the arms are too flexible for metal CVs? idk.) Thank you !
Tbh….I personally wouldn’t put that kinda money into a Mini Erevo….I would definitely spend it on a 1/10 scale sized truck….much more capable….if that’s what you really wanna do?……the Hot Racing Diffs and Hot Racing Driveshafts are a good upgrade to do
