I have finally completed the tray build. I am super happy with the end result for someone who has not built a tray before. and I encourage anyone to give it a go! hope you enjoy 🤙🏻
Hi mate… Just wondering how did you get the sizes for the tray you made and and what’s the maximum legal size you can make…. It’s a gorgeous tray better than what they are selling out there… Thanks Bani
Hey mate cheers for the comment 🤙🏻 Standard width for a tray is 1800 wide how ever you can make it less or a little bit more I guess you just don’t want it sticking out past the point of your cab width to much otherwise you won’t be able to see past your tray in your side mirrors I just made mine 1775 wide because it’s the width of a canopy I want but most are 1800 wide. Now the length is depends on what can you have. If it’s a duel cab most are around the 1800mm mark but I made mine 1550 for more clearance when 4x4ing and so I didn’t have to make up a stupid panel between the back of the tool boxes and the tail light surrounds but it’s person preference really. You just don’t want to go to long where it looks stupid and have to much weight past your back wheels cause it can cause your cab to snap in half 😂 on some cars. Hope this helps mate 👍🏻
Cheers mate I just got a quarter turn tap from Bunnings and drilled a hole for it and used this www.bunnings.com.au/holman-12-x-20-25mm-brass-bsp-tap-adaptor_p3130730 To screw it to the back of the panel and had another one I used for the filler part. I hope this helps mate. Everything was from Bunnings they are all hose fittings so just go in and have a look you will work it out 🤙🏻
Cheers mate. I had the tub off and put a straight edge along the chassis mounts and measured down from the bottom of the window to the straight edge then minus the tray headboard hight to underside of the tray and that gave me the length I needed to make the mounts. Hope that makes sense man 🤙🏻
Thanks mate I was thinking about building the canopy as well but I think I’ll just buy it haha way to much sheet bending involved 😂 but yeah can’t wait to get one just gotta save up again 😁
Hi mate… It’s me again, I’ve started to sketch up my tray that I want to build,,, it’s just trying to get the sizes right I know you already told me what size I’d your tray size, I’m just going little bigger I’m doing mine 1800mm L X 1750 W…. Just for my work and the thing that I do with it, I’m not putting a aluminium canopy on it, just trying to get the right height for the brackets and how far do you keep it away from the cabin…. I can see you have yours about 100mm away from the cabin I wanted mine a little bit closer… so yea if you do have the sizes are or where you got it from that would be great… can’t wait to do mine I’m going to put a trundle drawer underneath…. Thanks
Hey mate so what I did was I got a trait edge or level and put it vertically down the middle of the back window and just eyeball it what looks plumb or good to the eye and measure to your first mounting point so if you move that mount that is going to go there back towards the cab that will give you space between the cab and tray if that make sense to you and to get it closer obviously just move it the other way. Mine is only like 50mm off the cab. Hope this helps mate 🤙🏻 and depends how might you want your headboard and tray to sit. I pretty much went just above the roof so to get that measurement just measure your tray/ headboard hight the go from the roof down using another big straight edge the the back two brackets and but it up to the cab and you can measure up from the bottom of the straight edge up to your roof. Then take away your tray hight from that and you will have your bracket hight. Hopefully I explained that good as well haha.
@@Ozoffroad_ yes we’ll explained that just made it easier thank you so much…. I’m go build the whole frame first before I take my tub off the I’ll leave the head board and the brackets till last at least I’ll have the car on the road till the last bit of it…. Thanks for your help…
This build is unreal! What’s was the total cost in the end? And how long all up in time you reckon it was. Looks like you could get a few cashies out of this. 🤘🏽
Cheers man so the total in materials was about $5700 and I have no idea on time man I was actually injured pretty bad during this build which stoped me for a while. I have learnt a lot doing the tray and the major one is to take your time and don’t over weld to much at a time haha
Hi mate whats the length of the bed. Im after doing the same thing to carry two dirt bikes crf50 and a ktm 300 while towing a camping tailer. Or will it fit diagonally. I need a dual cab for the kids. So this seems like a good way to do it.
Hey mate I made it 1550mm long 50 mm longer than a tub but obviously you don’t loose the wheel arch like a tub so I guess you could probably put it on the angle or maybe straight on I haven’t tested my bike on it yet cause I have a trailer 😂 I recon it might fit but the back wheel might hang out a bit but im not sure 🤔
