This treadmill proform 420 trainer just suddenly stopped working; most of the console display buttons no longer worked. The fix is unexplained but here we are.
Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! *Ive had my treadmill for YEARS! Only Up & Down arrows worked! *I followed Your instructions in your video & Now..ALL the buttorns work again!! ❤ You saved me from buying a new treadmill and I'm grateful you took the time to make this video. You saved me so much money!! $$$. You are the BEST! I appreciate you!! 😊. Leaving a comment. Also, I've already liked, & subscribed too! 😊
The control switches are called “membrane switches”: - They have two sides - top and bottom - Over time the membrane weakens and the problem you’ve has is due to the two sides being in contact the whole time. - removing the sticker relieved some of the pressure so working again now :)
Thank you so so much! I inherited an older Proform treadmill from a family friend who knew I was wanting to buy one. Once we got it home and positioned where we wanted, and fully installed, we had a very similar problem to what you described. Only a couple buttons would work, and my husband was at a loss, not knowing anything about electrical issues. Anyway, not wanting to spend my kids entire Christmas budget on a brand new treadmill for myself, I got on RU-vid to see if I could figure out any ideas. Low and behold I come across your video, and I thought, well I don’t think mine has stickers you pull off, it looked pretty well attached. But sure enough, I walked over to it and saw a seam. I pulled both the right side and the left side off and it looked very similar to yours. And what do you know-it worked!!!! I even put the stickers back on and it still worked. You just literally saved me hundreds of dollars, so THANK YOU for making this video!
I have an Image 15.5 S treadmill. I was ready to take it to the landfill and then as a last resort I looked on RU-vid and found your post. I tried peeling off the label board as you suggested and it worked. I like you cannot explain why and really don’t care because it was an inexpensive fix. Thank you for your post.
I have a x9i nordictrack and just my incline buttons stopped working. I starting walking on it and in my frustration I went to RU-vid for some people help. I peeled the incline button side and....nothing. I peeled a little more towards the center of the display and Holy Cannoli it works!!!! God bless you angle from heaven!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I have a treadmill that hadn't been used in quite some time. When I decided to get it back out it wouldn't work. All of the LEDs would illuminate when powered on (power on self-test) but nothing more than that. This video was the key to diagnosing the problem. I was able to determine that the stop and speed + buttons were continually being pressed. As demonstrated in this video, I tried peeling off the applique, but unfortunately, it did not fix the problem for me. Instead, I ordered some 12mm pushbuttons from Amazon. I removed the membrane switch assembly (threw it away), drilled 1/2" holes in all of the button positions of the console (I only have 5), and installed the buttons. I soldered the wires for the buttons to connection points on the printed circuit board adjacent to the membrane switch connector. It works like a champ again. This video was very helpful in diagnosing the issue. I am grateful that you took the time to share your knowledge.
Man, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!. I dealt with pro form customer service and they were awful. I will never buy another product from them again. They wanted to sell me a new console for 200.00 plus or a service tech to come out for 180.00 who would have told me I needed a new console. I was about to ditch the treadmill but went to RU-vid for a last stab at it and lucked into finding your video. It worked perfectly. Mine had 3 sticky panels and removing and replacing the middle one did the trick. You just saved me from buying a new treadmill Thank you once again!!!!!!!!
Pro-Form service said that there were no parts available for my 530 and they offered a 10% discount on purchases over $1000 if I purchased it from them.... RIGHT! They didn't even know about this fix or were unwilling to suggest it. Look at how many people were helped by this.
That's crazy! I watched this because my i1300 Intrepid stopped working just like yours. I looked to see if the panel would come off of the controller like yours did. It would not...but lo and behold...I realized that the protective skin had never been peeled off of the control panel. Peeled it off and works like new. I have no idea how that was stopping the buttons from working but sure am glad you posted your video. Thanks.
Thabk you so much. This worked on my Livestrong LS8.0T treadmill, where the start button wasn't working but every other button was. God bless you, sir!♥️🎉🎉🎉
I have a Weslo Cadence G-40 treadmill and some of my buttons weren't working either. I took the whole thing apart just like you did, but still couldn't fix the problem. I'm soooo glad I found this video because I was about to throw the thing away and get a new one. To my surprise, I peeled back the button label, just like you did in the video, and every single button now works! Thank you very much for your help! Mystery Solved! Downfall is I have to remember what all the buttons were labeled, but on the plus side, they all work. When I went to take the label off, mine cracked and peeled in to a mess, so it was salvageable. Just keep that in mind when you go to peel it off as not all button labels come up easy, at least not my Weslo...
im not sure if you will ever seen this, but wow, thank you, saved me and my girlfriend alot of money, thank you for the quick video that showed the exact issue and exactly what needed done to fix! youre the man!
Thank you J La for sharing this video. I have just recently bought a used Nordictrack crosstrainer and the first time I tried it all the buttons worked. A day or so later only 2 buttons worked and even my electronically minded partner couldn't figure out what was wrong. The machine has been in an unheated garage since we got it and we did have a very cold spell a day or so later so I wondered if the cold had affected the display. Having nothing to lose I got a sharp bladed knife to help me lift the corner of the console sticker and peeled it back. I peeled it and re-stuck it a couple of times and now it is working fine. Brilliant!
Thanks J La you saved me lot of $$$. I would only add that you don't need to take take all of the plastic off at once. You can pullup 1/2, then lay it back on to see if works. If it didn't work, pullup the other 1/2. The reason why console buttons don't work is because one or more of the buttons got stuck. So by pulling up the plastic you release the stuck buttons.
Thank you for this info. I have a HealthRider L700i and mine was doing the same thing. I peeled my button template off, and mine started working too!!! Thanks again!
My treadmill was not responding to anything I was trying. All I did was watch this video and my treadmill miraculously started working again! "HOLY BANANA'S!!!" Thanks.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! You saved me from having to buy another one. Don't know how I found you so quick but this worked for my Golds Gym treadmill as well. You are absolutely amazing!!! Again thank you!!
Honestly i had trouble believing that just lifting off the panel would fix the issue, however a neighbor thew out a Profrom ZT3 so i grabbed it and sure enough this did the trick and it functions perfectly now. Thanks for sharing this!
Well, I’ll be damned. With your instructions, I just fixed my old faithful nordictrack treadmill. Thank you! Wish I would’ve seen this sooner, I already bought a replacement and was giving my old one away thinking it needed a whole new console.
Unbelievable! I just peeled back one corner of the button console cover of my Healthrider s500xi treadmill, and all the buttons worked again. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this. Genius!
You are the best! I so appreciate you putting this video out there. I have a Horizon Fitness T605. It is located in an unheated garage. It worked great all last week and the last couple of days, the temperatures have dropped to freezing and now only a few of the buttons were working. I was thinking that the cold temps must have damaged the circuit board, but that was illogical because it was in unheated storage for many years. The user manual gave me no clues. I went on an internet search and found your video. I used a razor blade to carefully peel back the display cover and miraculously, once removed, it started working properly. Thank you so much.
It worked for me on my Golds GYM trainer 480. Used a blow dryer and a plastic tool to peel it off, the sticker on my model has the circuitry in it, peeled it half off then put it back on and now all buttons work again. Only 1 or 2 buttons would work and sometimes none before, thanks for this video. So it would work sometimes and sometimes not so I thought it was a loose wire but nope.
Peeling the label on our 650e pro form worked great thanks- the start button had a bend in it- bent that back out and it works great thanks for posting this video!
Thank you so so much. I have had the exact same problem with the 705 ZLT after moving home and was ready to pay a load of money to fix it. However thank god for this video! You have saved my sanity. I am so grateful I found this RU-vid you posted!
This worked for me too on a nordic trac c220i - I had been putting up with only the speed numbers on one side working without being able to do anything else for some time. I was nervous to do this but then I got to the point where I needed to replace the belt at around £80 so thought i'd try it - as it wasn't work spending this money on a partially working machine. You don't need to cut the pad just peels back if you lift it away with a thin blunt knife - just be careful not to break any of the connectors to the control unit - - i.e. just don't pull it away too hard go slow Mine now works fine - and with a quick wipe underneath I have put the sticker back in place as it remains sticky after. I'll update again later to see how it goes long term with the sticker back in place looking immaculate. Thanks so much I was ready to buy a new treadmill but now can get a bit more life out of this one...
Awesome! I was at the point of giving up (because it still worked mostly well enough to use, though couldn't access certain speeds). I was hesitant to peel back that top plastic for fear of ruining it completely, but your video gave me the confidence that it would be okay. It's working great now, thanks to your suggestion. I would only add that using a heat gun or a hair dryer to soften the glue makes it a bit easier to peel back. Just go slowly so you don't crease it. Thanks again!
You saved my life. Mine kept being stuck in 7 speed randomly and I was so irritated I almost ripped the whole thing apart. This fix worked perfecto thanks so much !
OMG!! That worked, I was getting ready to call someone to fix this issues, I lifted up the panel and the buttons immediately started working. You're a genius. Thank you
I had a later model ONLY FEW YEAR OLD iFit Nordictrack, where none of the buttons worked, in 4 different sections. Had to remove all 4 sets of giant stickers, BUT IT WORKED! Assume maybe the stickers warp or shift, and essentially are "pushing two buttons at once" or something. Anyway big thanks for making my fix so easy!!!!!!!
Wow I cant believe it but this actually worked on my Pro Form threadmill, you are a blessing Sir thanks alot for sharing, I was now about to throw it out and get another when this simple fix worked like a charm, seems to be a deffect on most Pro Form models. Five stars and hatts off to you!
I started having this exact same problem with my Pro-Form 530 about a year ago. We ended up thinking it was an overheating issue and started unplugging it after every use. I realize now that it was just a coincidence that it worked for awhile like this but the problem became more frequent until that was it. It simply no longer worked. I took off the back console cover and remade the ribbon connections but that didn't help. There were no indications of anything shorted or burned on what I could see of the circuit boards. My wife and I were really happy with this machine and I decided to try to source the boards. No dice! We already decided to look at other machines. Boy, the prices almost doubled! I don't need apps or Bluetooth connectivity, just a nice folding treadmill that's sturdy and reliable. I found several Xterra models at about double the price I paid for this one back who knows when. Then I saw your video. It made sense. I think what happens is that there is some shrinkage of the cover template or the adhesive and it ends up pressing multiple buttons and it locks up the input buffer to the processor. I removed the cover just as you suggested and I have a perfectly working machine again. You saved me a thousand dollars my friend. Thank you very much!!!
Nice. I think exercise Equipment is expensive because of covid 19 in part. When the gyms were closed I sold some free weights and dumbbells On eBay.I was hoping to get around $200 for approximately 1200 pounds worth.A bidding war took place and some fella paid me $2 per pound.I am pretty sure I paid around 45 cents to 50 cents a pound years ago when I purchased themAdd a place call Dick sporting goods nearly 20 years ago. So there's no surprise that home gym equipment is doubled.
I thank you so much.... my Pro-max was only on speed 4 and it was really hard for me to do .... but now after seeing your video about the counsel board peel off trick it works....
Absolutely worked for our Nordictrack Treadmill. I wonder if it's many buttons activating at the same time. Our error happened after a really warm day in the equipment room - buttons must have been stuck! Thanks for your help!!!!!
This worked like a charm. Our 21 years old Image 10.2Qi treadmill stopped working yesterday, found this video and now it’s working. FYI, few years back our Frigidaire Stove top panel was not functioning so after watching one RU-vid video we did the same thing i e peeled the panel and put it back and boom, every thing was working again and still working.
Sweet. I have a feeling that two or more buttons are stuck on cancelling everything out, and releasing the sticker released the buttons if thar makes sense
I can't believe this actually worked on a Freemotion treadmill. Screen was showing "SB" as an error. Peeled off the plastic cover and it solved the problem immediately.
Thankyou so much for this video! Was about to scrap my otherwise fine Nordic track cross trainer, came across this vid and your tip of removing the sticker did the trick
WORKED!!!!! I had read manuals, online articles, "Perform the reset / calibration" tips.. ETC.. Before the fix, ONLY the 'incline -' worked. Now, EVERYTHING works.
I know I don't get it. it is amazing how many people say that worked and it was just removing a piece of plastic film and reapplying go figure. I wish there was a reason why this happens and you can wrap your head around it but there's not
@@JLafix The reason this happens is that the button contacts got stuck together. However, when you peeled the cover layer off, there was enough upward pressure to make the stuck buttons come back up where they should be. There are actually 3 layers, the part you peeled off is layer one (the printed layer showing the controls). Below that are two button layers. The one you see and an identical one below that. The button circuit works by resistance. When the top layer is pressed it makes contact with the bottom layer, sending a specific resistance signal down to the motor controller board at the bottom front of the treadmill. This is how the treadmill knows what to do, the speed you want, etc. However, when one of those buttons get "stuck" in the down position, it confuses the controller board and other buttons will not work while that button is pressed (or stuck). Pressing certain other buttons, temporarily unsticks or trumps the stuck button, so only certain buttons will work, until you unstick the problem buttons as you have done, simply by physically peeling off the top layer, literally "pulling" all the buttons below the sticky printed layer to come up right to default positions. Here's a good video to better explain the fix: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m8IAZyxoky8.html
Thank you so much for this video, after i took apart my wifes treadmill i could not find anything wrong. i wish i watched this video first lol thank you again!
I have an XLP 1000 with buttons that would not respond except for a few. I tried the peal back process and things started to work, but not as per the top label. For instance, I now push the + button to start the belt and nothing with stop it. To increase the speed I push the + button and it increases by one tenth. So we use it at about 1.4 and pull the cord when we want it to stop. The incline and decline now work as they are supposed to. Bottom line is that it functions good enough and cost nothing to make the repair.
