If you've ever wanted to take a trip across the pond to Jamaica be sure to check out this two part series and satisfy some of your curiosity as to what you can do while you're there. In part one we'll be hopping across the island from the Calabash Festival on Treasure Beach with a top selection of authors and live music from the likes of Protoje to the gorgeous beaches of Negril, soaking up the sights, sounds, vibrant culture and hospitality this culture is known for.
We also find some time to have a few important discussions about social issues such as the impact of skin lightening or bleaching as it is more commonly referred to. We talk to authors, chefs, man on the street and man on the beach to give you what is hopefully a fresh perspective on an island that won me over with its charm. As usual when I travel, I also take some time to look for positive ideas that could be implemented back home in Guyana to the benefit of my fellow citizens. This was surely a memorable trip with my partner and a close friend based in Jamaica. Relive the cliff jumping, find out how not to get kicked out of Rick's Cafe and sample a taste of Kingston before part two rolls through. Enjoy the vlog, hit subscribe and leave your comments below. On my first visit to Jamaica over a decade ago I wished for a camera to capture the sights at Dunn's River Falls or the experience of going on a horseback ride that ended in the ocean as I explored Ocho Rios and Montego Bay with my family but fortunately I came better prepared this time albeit on another fantastic side of the island. No pun intended but this is surely a Jam-packed episode! See you in part two. Over to you...

Blessings to you my *Guyanese* brother, I'm a *long time* fan of your *informative and insightful* videos. I really enjoyed *part one* of this video and eagerly awaits *part two*.... *P.S* The staff member of Rick's Cafe over reacted a little, however it's their policy of shutting down the dive spot when there are *high tides or inclement weather warnings* etc. He could've handle it much better than he did....

That's quite a large literary festival, especially given the size of Jamaica. Very impressed with the range of nationalities attending.Thoroughly enjoyed the video which was professionally produced and narrated. Look forward to the upcoming ones.

I'm from Suriname descent, born and raised in the Netherlands. In 2016 I went to Suriname for the very first time, at 29 years old. I had a big culture shock...but i loved it.. I had to get used to the how things worked in Suriname regarding littering, attitude, politics and a whole lot of other stuff... But now after be stumbled on your video's I've come to appreciate the country where my parents are from more! Even though my family is not from Guyana my heart weeps for the country... The only thing i've known from Guyana before stumbling on to your videos, was the Jonestown massacre.... I'm sad but also intrigued, about al the information your sending out to the world about Guyana. I hope, that your save and ok, seeing as you haven't posted anything in about 4 months....

love your vlog!!! i miss my little big island..lol. cant wait to see Part 2!! We are unruly drivers at times but when it comes to corners and no passing lanes the big bus and trucks will always win---and so it should be.

Jamaica has been much more of a classist society than a racist one and many persons mistake classism for racism. If, as that young lady stated, she is from a working-class background and attended an elite high school she was more likely to have been discriminated against because of her background instead of her race. This is especially so given the fact that most of the students who attend elite schools are black and from the middle/upper income brackets.Of course, those are also the schools attended by most of the children the middle/upper income racial "minority" groups in the country. With regards to bleaching, most of this takes place mainly among the poorly educated lower income groups from the urban ghettos who mimic some of their dance hall "heroes" What is of interest is that the dance hall artistes really bleach as a gimmick to add shock value, just as they would in getting outlandish hairstyles, tattoos etc. Bleaching is generally scorned and ridiculed in Jamaica and there have even been reports of employers being wary of employing " bleachers" as they identify them as coming from particular communities.

That guard at Rick's Cafe is a total disgrace to Jamaica and the Cafe. That is absolutely not the way to deal with visitors to our island. Let me apologize for your unpleasant encounter. The matter should have been dealt with more professionally. Hope this episode didn't change your overall view of our island. Have a good day and hopefully we will see you again in Jamaica,one love my brother! Do come again!

Karl Henry yeah him did outta order. Instead of dealing with the worker who told him to jump, he took it on the patron.

Not sure about that "politeness" or it is that Jamaican drivers have eased up on the aggressive driving, but that was not the case on my many trips there. Now, admittedly, the minibus drivers were the often the main culprits in overtaking vehicles because they do NOT believe in trailing behind anyone.

I enjoy your videos on Guyana, but what are you doing in Jamaica? Anyway don't fly with Air Jamaica; they're unreliable and always overbooked.
@viewmaster2027
@viewmaster2027 7 лет назад
MrHFMetz Air Jamaica is DEFUNCT and been out of Operation since 2012.... Fly Jamaica is the only one, and that's owned by a Guyanese pilot and his wife who both resides in Jamaica....😊

Really? Well don't fly with them. That is a lousy business. But I stiil wonder what was Real Guyana doing in Jamaica.
