I don't own a horse, I don't know how to ride a horse, I live no where near horses, I dont know what a hoof abscess is but now I know how to treat hoof abscess
Horses are so amazing for just casually letting you carve out their hoove and wrapping it while just standing there like a champ, they must know you are helping
Laurence Reeves: yeah, they had a very deep cerebral discussion beforehand to explain exactly what was going to happen. They were totally on the same level.
Some horses actually prefer you show them which brush you’re using, which tool, whatever. They like to be talked to. It helps them know where you are so it’s safer for you. We also had a pony who we’d put kids/inexperienced riders on. Any time they’d start to slip off to one side, he’d stop so they could right themselves. He was also more careful when we had a child with disabilities (balance issues mainly). It was like he knew to be extra cautious with the kid. Pretty sweet
Look at his mouth and you'll see him licking and chewing. After something stressful, thats basically a sigh of relief! Pretty cool to see a horse not in pain any more!
For those that don't own horses that little bit there at the end when the horse bent down to inspect his wound boot. When he came back up he said thank you in horse gesture.
Daytona Says What?! What a surprise, Mr. Nascar-reference thinks scraping a hoof and soaking it in dirty water and epsom salt in a grocery bag and tape, is SURGERY. You realize even FISH understand and appreciate being cleaned and cared for (think of all the symbiotic relationships between big fish that eat anything in sight, yet ignore the specific species of cleaning fish that exist SOLELY to feast off of their larger friend's infections and parasites)
@@creativewritingtutor5788 you and pink Droid should use your creative writing talent to come up with some dialogue for Bambi 4, given that you think animals think like humans.
LOL. Your reply is funny!!! Here's something else you might like, Daytona. Growing up Mom, Dad, and our Family raised horses. They are extremely intelligent. I could tell you many stories to verify, however, I will share with you experiences and memories from one of my favorite friends. We had a horse that was a complete smart@$$. If at a creek or a pond, he would knock you into the water and dance around in triumph. He'd safely play tag with the children. And his favorite game was soccer in which he could not only dribble and pass, but he understood the object of the game was to score a goal. His only problem was that he didn't like to share his food, and to me that was what gave him his most human-like characteristic of all. P.S. Something for you to look forward to: Bambi's Mom will make her long awaited return to the screen in her new role as being one with the force. Disney loves all of mine and Pink's new ideas.
Jon Trelfa. Duct tape, WD-40 and Epsom Salt. If any one of these three can't fix it, nothing can. I see this got a two out of three, so I feel sure the horse will be cured. :) :) :)
Epsom salts are NOT used for cooking, in fact they are a fairly powerful laxative. They reduce swelling and inflammation, can draw out infection, and soothe a stressed muscle.
What a good girl! My father and my uncle were farriers and I've seen and heard about some extraordinary behavior. This little girl is a very good girl and I hope the treatment set her on the path to healing.
Excelllent work!!! You can see how much Mr. Horse appreciated the care, and how much better he felt when he looked around to thank the ?Dr. or was it the Ferrier who helped him!!
I absolutely love horses, and had been looking at getting one...but after seeing so many of these hoof videos on YT, I think it wise to build a maintenance fund up before making such a purchase. Horses require so much care, and it hurts me to see so many owners so neglectful or ignorant of their horse's needs.
Its expensive, but like a car. I you maintain the health, as long as there isn't any freak accidents you will be fine. Its once you start to neglect the care that's when it goes go shit and you spend a fortune
“ And now with this padding the horse must be much more comfortable….. “ Horse smells on new contraption. The horse blinks around with a stare of “wtf have I now on my foot” 🤣
Thank you for the video. Got a mare with a stubborn hood abscess. Been using an Epsom poultice and wrapping with vetwrap and duck tape. Using epsom salts and very warm water for soaking. Also ichthammol ointment and wrapping too with vetwrap and some times duck tape .
Haha! That horse is like, "dafuq?" I think horses are beautiful and I have always wanted one, or ten... but I would never get an animal like that without knowing how to care for and maintain them. I think that horse was hoping for the crazy color ducktape. Maybe the neon or zebra print?
it's also good for a bath when soaking sore muscles, or for soaking an infected appendage...in people! also, in some instances, it can be used in diluted amounts as a plant fertilizer...i can't remember which plants, though.
I'm a city (philly) boy and I don't get to see many animals besides the normal pets and the horse and buggies that give people tours of the old city. That horses eyes are F'N magical, I didn't want to stop staring at them
Horses in the wild naturally wear there hooves at the same rate that they grow, wild horses have to move 10-15 miles a day on typically dry, sandy loam soil just to feed themselves, domesticated horses wander around a couple of miles on a typically grassy pasture not getting any abrasion at all, thereby necessitating cleaning and regular trimming. How often do you trim your fingernails? Horse hooves and your fingernails are made of the same material (hair) , and grow continually.
When poulticing a baby diaper works great and you can use iodine and sugar poultice also it works as a drawing agent! I'm from wi we've had alot of wet weather my horse had large abscess in October and he has one now! I soak him once a day in hot water Epsom salt then put poultice on! Great video you explained alot!
in the past i have used drawing suave and put a baby diaper on then duct tape. baby diapers are really good fit for horse hooves and the tape hold in place and protects for the day as well.
for a poultice, ever hear using a few pieces of squished "white man's foot" or broad leaf plantain leaf? it's great first aid plant, I wonder if stuffing a good bit of it into the hole in this hoof would have helped any?
epsom salt disolved in warm water and haveing the foot soaked for 5 minutes is a good thing to do it will sooth the foot and help the absess i have a horse and he is always cetting cracks and abesses
My grandfather used the old not disposable diapers soaked in Epsome salt and then a burlap sack then wrapped in cord............he saw me use a regular diaper and he laughed at how things change, but stay the same!!
I am looking for help - My 23 yr old Quarter horse stopped wanting to pick up his front feet about 2 years ago. He is barefoot in a softish dirt paddock. He tends to wear his outer heal down more than the inner heal on his front feet. He also started getting arthritis in his Rt front knee about 2 years ago. I believe the pain from the unlevel front feet and the arthritis made him fear the tweaking the farrier has to do to put the foot between her legs. He got completely unwilling to let us pick up his front feet. Back feet were no problem. Last time the farrier tranquilized him with a fast acting paste you put under the tongue - and she found an abscess in one of the front feet. He coliced so bad from the tranquilizer that I thought he was going to die. He has never been good with pain and is really sensitive. He used to be about 1200 lbs - a big guy, but lost weight the last year. I now have him on MSM and Glucosimine and Biotin to help ease the discomfort, which has helped him get his appetite back. But..... I still cannot lift his front feet. What can we do? I have had to grind off his toe in the front feet to keep them from getting too long, but I am afraid to call the farrier. I am wondering about asking the farrier to put the Founder type clamps on in the hopes he will be in less pain and let us lift his front feet. I have also been giving him Bute for the 2 days prior to the Farrier visits - but not enough relief. NOW WHAT??? What can I do next?? Is there a way to get him to trust this will not hurt? It has been a struggle for 2 years and now impossible. Should I try to get an antibiotic in him before the farrier?? Please - if you have any ideas I would appreciate it.
haha no one knows what epsom salt is! its at walgreens! They keep it for grandmas to use. Not really, but its good for baths to help skin and muscle problems.
Audrey Stamm: lol, I'm not a grandma, but I sure feel like one after being a RN for 15 years. there is nothing better than a HOT lavender scented Epsom salt bath.
