The soleus provides a significant portion of the calf's endurance power. However many therapists skip over the trigger points that develop here and instead focus on the broader calf complex. This is a mistake, as the soleus not only mimics achilles tendinopathy and plantar fascia, but can also be directly involved in them.

Thanks for this. Think this can be treated on oneself?

So this can mimic Plantar fascitiis, in the form of neuropathic presentation in the heel? I have had PF before in my right foot. It was worse with weight bearing, and no pain at rest, as is typical PF. But I now have the opposite in my left foot. A constant tingling/throbbing pain in the heel at rest, but no ligament limitations upon walking. Doesn't really make sense. So I've scheduled a deep tissue massage as a result of these tips, and I appreciate the video.

Hey Crispy this could be sensory nerve entrapment eg; baxters nerve , but yes soleus can definitely mimic PF, let me now how you get on

@@stuarthindsacademy I had an ultrasound and partially tore my plantar fascia, which explains the extreme puffiness i've had for 6 weeks. It won't go away. So it's not baxter's for me. The nerve is compressed but only secondary to the swelling. I've tried everything. Topical NSAIDs, RICE method, supplements, shockwave. Most of the medical literature says 3 months for the swelling. It's driving me nuts because it throbs at rest.

2:22 "Yep" He's doing a great job not making a face. This looks a little below where my knot is located. It might start around there and goes up about 3 more inches. Are you applying pressure to the middle of the knot, or is there a specific point that releases the entire muscle?
@stuarthindsacademy
@stuarthindsacademy 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for the feedback, it is a tender area however i adjust my pressure to make it acceptable as soon as he starts to guard i back off , there is a trigger point in the belly of the medial head within a taut band and that is what i`m looking to treat , you should get a great change to the entire muscle

i stepped into a pool in Bali 4 years ago next month, but the step was quite steep and i believe i tore my left soleus muscle at the time...4 years later and still very painful, do you think its scar tissue or just still hasn't repaired...i believe they can take years to recover from?
@stuarthindsacademy
@stuarthindsacademy 11 месяцев назад
Seriously 4 years , ah no , you need to see a good therapist or a reputable sport physician , and maybe some imaging a some trial treatment to see if it makes a change to your symptoms

I did something similar years ago (pretty paiinful) and got back to pain free running in less than three months. I have an ace in the hole though - married to a really excellent experienced massage therapist. I gotta say though the treaments made tears well up in my eyes.
