Climbed my first tree yesterday, went up ten feet, heart began racing and head sweating. Went back down and took some breaths an back up I went. Successfully cut down a 40’ dead cedar in my front yard. Glad I watched a couple of your videos first!

Luv watching old school tree workers /climbers . I myself am old school as many others tell me. Been climbing since age of 19 and I'm 61 now still going . Cut and throw when you can and rig when you have to. Always think ahead while working . Takes some years to figure out a system. Some don't get it . Work hard ,but work simple . I enjoy watching .

Every little message you leave on your videos I feel I gain something from, not just helping with little knicks progressing my knowledge on working on trees for a living, but mainly all around helpful stuff to help make live simpler and easier. Good stuff keep it up, it works.
Long time ago I worked as a groundman for a tree cutting company, I somehow just knew to treat the guy in the bucket or the climber like royalty. If you do that they will throw everything in the same direction and make cleanup a breeze. If they dont like you they will throw branches any which way and that is a lot of extra leg work, trust me, I have watched other groundmen pay that price.

Billy on your truckers hitch. New trick to old school. When you feed the line through the pully knot. pass it through one more time. when you pull it will cinch down and lock in place. Undo that by running the line back through the loop and pull. Supper easy.
My Gosh, I got shivers sent down my spine when you opened up the Door to what can only be described as a working museum of saws, That is one impressive, well organised (I say that from a mans perspective...) Saw Room. Reminds me of all the movies where a secret agent/spy/person of mystery opens up their armoury behind a secret painting or bookshelf, everything in its place, well maintained and ready for action. Your advice about not shutting down the saw immediately after a big cut is probably excellent advice for any motorized vevhcile or machinery. For example, even if on a road trip - don't turn the car off immediately upon parking; or lawn mower, snow blower, gardxen tiller, etc.etc. etc. I'm in on that!!

Hey Buckin, Been a minute since I commented so I felt it was time. 1st GREAT video as per usual. You know I love the message, the life, and the ability to live and learn from everything around me -- you are of course the prime example. I have as many years on this earth as you give or take a few... yet I didn't find my calling until 2017. Man I learned some things the hard way. But, it's the ONLY way I can think of that really makes it sink in for me. Fortunately, I mean that with a great deal of exception; particularly with regard to common sense, safety and doing things that are just plain ignorant. I have always been the type to ask if I don't know something and can't figure it out - if it's a make it or break it thing, I don't bother to mess around, I just ask for help. That aside, having a heavy background with certificationd starting at age 15 in an AWESOME course created by a legend himself, Dixon Leslie [RIP sir] who had the insight to take what he was passionate about - all things outdoors; Hiking, Mountaineering, Survival in the deep woods, Rock & Ice climbing, Kayaking, etc. AND teaching - he was my forestry teacher for 4 years, and for 2 years, he was my "Wilderness 1, and Wilderness 2" Teacher. He saw students like myself who were not well served with lectures while sitting in the classroom for 8 hours a day, 180 days a year × 12 years. So, outside we went. And then he got the grants to fund us to build a RIDICULOUS climbing wall/walls- ceilings, an entire room via a sectioned off annex of the theater - the stage -?- right? Left? IDFK it was on the right looking down the auditorium at the stage, and the theater kids- well that's the brakes kids, sorry not sorry... We were also fortunate enough to get instructors from the great IMCS (International Mountain Climbing School) here in North Conway NH, as well as the Appalachian Mountain Club, and EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) N.Conway, NH, All who sent us amazing instructors to get us certified. And then the grand finale: Part 1 of 3 of our final exam: Vans, kayaks, canoes and trailers to haul all of that + 24 if us, to the beginning of the Allagash water way in Maine- a white water river that spans several hundred miles from the ocean to the base of Mt. Katahdin. Which is not a big deal for us because we come from the Mt Washington valley where we have been raised to hike, ski and snowboard Tuckerman Ravine, Ascend Mt Wash Western side in the middle of winter - yeah, hello 100mph winds on a normal day. Anyway, so I grew up with the itch to climb high- hell man in the 6th grade my best friend and I would climb trees - I know, what kid doesn't, right? I mean 80' pines and maybe more IDK, whatever was the tallest, had at least a branch every 4-5' and we could get to through the landowners yard without getting caught, we'd climb it, and sit up at the top. Watching the town from up on the hillside, in a 80, 90 100 foot tree- swaying in the breeze. It was just... perfect. That best friend was also the bassist in our band. Yes BTW I've been seeing that kit in different videos, and yes I've been a drummer since age 9. I play still - I have a great mutt kit: Pearl Export Series 5 piece - Bass drum, rack toms & floor tom with remo pinstripe heads, top only on my rack toms, no reverb heads, and a wooden 6" Drum Workshop snare, beside a 3" picalo snare, tama titan hardware hi-hat with a clutch, Gibraltar boom stand x4 for the symbols: zildian 8" splash, 14" left & 16" right crash, 20 " crash/ride over my floor tom. That one btw has a Remo black dot head, not a pinstripe like the rack toms. I tried the Remo all black hydrolic heads, but they sounded- matter how I tuned them- like thrash metal band drums. Granted that's what I do to warm up - lol i play a blend of Metallica, Slipknot, and Five Finger Death Punch - then tighten it up to a few diddy and para diddles (that has a whole new meaning now that P.Diddy was caught in the middle of a human trafficking ring - ugh scum bag) anyway, I do a little Neil Pert precision w/32nd notes on the high hats, and then the Carter Beauford of Dave Mathews Band full kit wrap around fills- and then a quick ru ta ta zit zit pa tuuw- u know! the Steve Miller Band famous whoo hoo, -- Anyway then I do my own thing... oh the mutt, So the other hardware - my prize possession aside from my fav axe- no not a guitar - you know what I mean, but it's the bass drum pedal! I learned to play double kick on a single kick pedal- so my parents (RIP MOM & POP I love ya'z & can't believe what you put up with!) just loved it when I finally saved up enough to get my drun workshop double kick DW5002AH whooo wee she's as fast as greased lightening and as thunderous as the angels bowling strike after strike in heaven on the stormiest nights down here... I jog on those puppies and have been recorded playing what can only be surmised to be 64ths but I swear I am not trying to do anything but add a little extra fill on the 1 & 3-- lol... I have been meaning to say for years that I drum and and sing, play piano/keys, hand percussion, air drums, air guitar, steering wheel drums, etc. And 4 sting bass. Hey man, what was the line in this song - after, "stirs his coffee with thumb..." Uses ______ to wipe his bum'? Pawls? If so, I can't imagine how many times you have to pull that cord to start your saw. And Damn, that would make a mess. And DAMN that would make your bum awfully sore... Why not use maple leaves or any leaves? Except for the leaves of three- we'll let them be ... or be really itchy!! Last thing, actually maybe 2 things, #1 are you Irish or Canadian or what my guy? I ask because you have an accent that is sometimes a wee bit irreeshh n sometimes just like ex wife #3 from Michigan with a Minnesota/Canadian accent thing happening. Where is the Ms. in all of this? I didn't know there was a Ms. Buckin til the song credits rolled... Oh 1 more thing: I luv ya bud. You changed my life- or at least, made it more enjoyable with the laughs, the skills!! Slowly trying to learn to not be in a hurry working. Im always trying to get stuff done as fast as possible and a lot of times that come backs to get me because I make mistake that I have to go back and fix. The job would have taken me less time if I would have slowed down and not made mistakes. Great advice Buckin.

Well sir billy I am not ashame to tell u that I have myself learned more from watching u as I am self taught I became 100x better at cutting trees by watch u but 10-20 yrs ago I would of climbed trees as u had as now I let that for young guys as got a very bad back and legs which retired me but still times I love falling trees
Yep, knobs are life savers, literally! I use them a lot to get my climbing line away from the collar when I do collar cuts by taking a bite of my climbing line and pulling it up over top of the cut in around the tree and then on to the nearest knob

Back in my younger years when worked in logging industry, I thought I knew it all and at 63 years old, I watch you're videos and I say, wish I'd known some of the things you are showing, life would have been so much enjoyable. Love the video, some good tips. Especially about checking you gear! Simple step frequently skipped that helps make sure at the end of the day you get to go home. Also really liked that you emphasized not to rush in a tree. Focus on the task not the time it takes to get it done. Speed will come naturally with time and experience. I do think that when you are giving tips on trimming its important to let people know not all trees behave the same. Most evergreens have great hinge and will normally hold great. But if you were to repeat the same in a poplar for example you would have a completely different experience. Important to know your trees. Thanks for the video and stay safe brother.

I love out little 2511t. Those little saws have great power to weight ratio. Also got the 271t with the muffler modded that I climbed with forever but that little 2511 I dont even feel it hanging from my saddle
