The name "tree frog" could be in reference really to any arboreal frog species. This episode will focus specifically on "true" tree frogs who, ironically, don't always live in trees! Tree frogs spend most of their time inhabiting trees, though some species prefer the ground or even watery habitats. Their babies are laid either on leaves above water or directly in water, but some species may even take to rotting logs and plants like bromeliads. Tree frogs have claw-like toes covered in a round, adhesive disc that helps them stick to surfaces and climb trees. They also have extra cartilage between their toe bones giving them more flexibly to climb!
Scientific Name: Family - Hylidae
Range: most of the world but generally lacking in Africa
Size: 0.5 to 5.5 inches in length (17-140mm)
Diet: generally eat insects and other invertebrates, but some of the larger species may eat small vertebrates like lizards
Lifespan: n/a

Paradoxes, peeing moms, smart unborns, crazy shovel-snoots, digging, climbing, swimming, tree-living, dirt-loving, and claw-toed. Who doesn't love frogs!! 0:55 - 1:02 If there is one constant that I've learned from you, it's that animal naming doesn't have to make sense. (Though I guess to be fair, if it were my job to name the animals, I'm sure I'd have a hard time with it.) Thanks for another great video!

Animal naming definitely doesn't have to make sense, but it's really fun to look at and think about critically! I love learning about how animal names apply to their behavior. Glad you've learned, as well!

One day I was in the shower and went to step back as I put my foot down I felt something. There was a tree frog in there. We think he got stuck to the cat and hitched a ride inside. Glad I didn't smoosh him. After my shower I put him back outside
