First time I have heard of the 4034 steel version of the Gurkha Kukri Plus. I own two O 1 tool steel models so my hopes was high for it but still I'm pleased with the out come of the way it proformed.
Machetes are not supposed to be chopping wood. Limbs, small brush and grass is there niche! Logs are axe fuel! Abusing tools are the reason fools complain about steel failure! I have real cheap machetes and they are good for sensible use!
So, which one do you like better? The 4034 or the 0-1? Are they 5/16" thick blades? Great video btw. I still have my Carbon 5/V Gurkha light Kubrick from 9/2001, 1/8" thick, 12" blade. Still a badass blade.!
I have this knife in O1. It has one big problem: it rusts like crazy. O1 is not a steel suitable to be used except in a desert. I bought another machete made in my country, I am from Brazil, in 6150c steel. It will be the machete that I will carry in my BOB.
THANKS FOR THIS REVIEW!! IMHO: KUKRI KNIVES ARE NOT MEANT FOR CHOPPING DOWN BIG HARDWOOD TREES. THEY ARE MORE LIKE A MACHETE, AND USED AS A JUNGLE SURVIVAL KNIFE, AND, AS A "FIGHTING/DEFENSEVE" KNIFE.
O1 Tool Steel , if you don't have concerns about rust and understand its need ti be taken care of , if not get a Stainless Steel 4034 blade because of its ease to maintain 0
