Tree Tops by Jim Corbett (Corbett meets the Queen) w/ an introduction by Malcolm Hailey | Audiostory

‘Tree Tops' is the last of Jim Corbett's books, and the only one not set in India. Written shortly before his death in 1955, it is the story of the then Princess Elizabeth's visit to Tree Tops in Kenya in 1952, where Corbett was then living.
Corbett describes the scenes witnessed by Her Majesty the Queen (on her last day as Princess Elizabeth) and her husband during their visit to the famous hunting lodge. It is a fascinating story, written in true Corbett fashion of the spontaneous exhibition of wildlife in its natural setting provided for the Royal Party by the elephants, baboons, and other forest creatures.
With an introduction by Lord Hailey and illustrations by Raymond Sheppard.

Thank you for your fine treatment of the late Jim Corbett. It brought back precious memories of a man who had a profound effect on my life. You see I met him as a young boy in England in 1952. I was just a lad of seven when we met. I was living with an aunt at that time. She and her late husband were close friends of his. Both Jim and her husband served in the British army in India her husband was killed during the war and Jim came to visit. I spent many hours listing to his tales of India of its people and wild life. When he left I was a change boy. I was determined to follow in his foot steps. He gave me a collection of his books, which he signed, and they have become prized possession, also photos of India which he took himself, but most of all he left me with a profound interest in India and its wildlife. I am an old man now but my memories of him and his stories are as vivid as they were then. He was indeed a unique man who lived a splendid life. 😮😮

Wow so Jim Corbett met the queen in person? She must have been one of the last surviving people to have seen Corbett in flesh. Time truly is undefeated!

This Chanel is greatest thing on RU-vid. I’d never heard of Jim Corbett, these stories are amazing, I listen to them over and over and still am exhilarated and thrilled by the courage of both the hunters fearless pursuit of the man eating tigers and leopards and those animals ability to stay alive by adapting their diet to humans. You can’t help but admire and feel sorry for those magnificent creatures whose will to survive made them adapt to an unfamiliar diet. Nature is amazing, Corbett saved many lives through his hunting and killing of these predators, but these animals have my sympathy and respect for their only fault was trying to live. To think they could be extinct (tigers) in a few decades is sickening.

In Australia, I met three elderly people who had lived in India and recalled Jim Corbett reading his stories on radio, and one presented me with his hard copy of 'Maneaters of Kumaon' - a green book with a gold embossed tiger head on the cover.

Loved listening to this in your calming voice. Thank you 🙏 Imagine having Jim Corbett to guard you with a rifle while you sleep peacefully in a forest or Jim Corbett as your personal guide as you take a stroll through the jungle. I think the Queen should’ve written her own book of meeting the master hunter and the slayer of man eaters Jim Corbett!

I was watching a documentary on NatGeo called India From Above. Dev Patel has done the narration for that and while listening to his narration, I couldn't help but think about your narration of Corbett's stories. What I noticed was common in both your and Dev's narration was the love and passion in each and every spoken word and the manner in which you narrate. Really this is one of the best YT audio channels! Keep up the good work.

Your channel is amazing!So many great stories to hear,thank you very much for your hard work. Who do you think was the better hunter, Jim or Kenneth? Its a difficult question but you have a lot of knowledge on this topic.
@selvalore
@selvalore 3 месяца назад
Thanks for commenting! There's no objective way to answer this question but taking into account a few different variables, I'd give Mr. Corbett a slight edge. His hunts were arguably more difficult and were accomplished on foot in very treacherous terrain. Both were equally skilled in the art and science of jungle lore and the use of firearms.
