I had a customer in awe of our craft. He asked me if I was scared and I told him yes, I'm petrified. He told me something that stuck with me..."Everyone dies. Not everyone lives."
I was born into tree work and i was made to work as punishment as a child. Once i was old enough to understand more and get paid i became more interested in the business. After working at nelson for a couple years i started to enjoy and take pride in being a tree trimmer. Now days im starting to feel old and everything that goes along with age but i still really enjoy tree work and would never want to do any other job. Tree people are a dien breed imo and im proud to be a tree guy.
I am an amateur, but when I finish a day of tree work - mentally and physically exhausted, not to mention happy to still be alive... I always think of those that get up and do it all over again every day. Much respect to you.
I loved the work in tree care industry but I left because of burnout. I’m not going to point fingers at companies but there are too many it’s just not worth it anymore. A lot of guys I know have left the field for same reason. I work for a nature center now with 22 plus acres of forest and I am much happier with the work and life balance and the work I’m doing still brings the joy of climbing.
I’m 41, and have been on a break from treework for the past year, pursuing another dream. But the finances aren’t where I thought I would be and am being confronted with getting my saw gear on again. It’s a weird feeling thinking about starting at it again after doing it for so many years day in day out. The last time was 13 years ago getting a job hauling brush, but this time it’s different knowing the level I was at when I stopped and where I’ll start again. I’m not sure if I want to do it again, but I see those nice rigs and remember how amazing that feels. Treework is just so intense, yet it can also be so calm if done right.
Alan Watts opened my eyes to many things which are important in life. Pat you opened my eyes to how tree work should be - enjoyable and fluid. Thank you
Ahhh yes…it’s a great life when the weather is good, the tree is sound, the yard is flat and the ground crew is good. But…then there are the other days….
@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM what diameter 10mm, 11mm? I’m using a 11mm Teufelberger KMlll Max Kernmantle rope. It works well, but it stiffens up when loaded. I’m looking for good alternatives.
