I worked with Matt Driver for about a year and he taught me this technique when doing crane work. Works super well I found. The only concern I had with it is the piece flipping or not coming off nice, which could take you for a ride if it snags your climbing line. Never had a bad experience with it but was always thinking about it in the back of my head. Like these raw videos. Can’t wait to see more with your techniques on limb walks and getting to those redirects
Dude! I learned this from Matt Driver 😂😂. I’m Friends with his brother, David. You’d only risk getting your line snagged if you stayed tied in. I cut about 80% through, then pull my rope, and tie into the tree, before i finish. Sweet dude! Thanks for watching! I’ll keep ‘em coming
I always thought about starting the cut while connected to the ball, but never knew if that was an acceptable method. Thanks man you still liking that 501p?
Yes. The 501 is a great little Saw. Still running strong. And I should add, I think the reason this isn’t taught more, is because of the concern of forgetting you’re still tied into the crane. However for me, I always tell those connected via Sena what I’m doing as a reminder, and I think it provides a safer option for handling a large saw and limiting the potential to gaff out while cutting. There’s also a safety factor in saving energy
