The cemetery in Royal Oak Michigan has 2 Woodmen trees. One is a lot bigger than the other. It has a lot of symbolic representations on it. When we were restoring the cemetery a few years ago, some genius drove through there and pushed that tree over. The city sent workers in there and stood it upright again but it was damaged and parts were broken off. My team and I took it upon ourselves to repair it. We used the silicone glue that we were using to repair stones and we fixed it. Reattaching a branch was the big challenge. We used rope to hold it in place while the glue dried. It was not easy to get it to hold at the angle we needed. When I went back in a couple of days later and untrusted the thing, I was nervous about what I would find. I am pleased to report that it was a perfect repair. If there is such a thing. You cannot tell that there was ever a problem. It remains a beautiful, symbolc work of cemetery art.

Woodmen of the World Started 1882 as a fraternal organization only operated in 9 of the central western states, Joseph Cullen Root was the founder. To be part of 3 Fraternal organizations is a huge accomplishment. As a Freemason I have gotten to learn other Fraternal organizations. Thanks For Sharing this "the other Robert" BTW here's another one to look into IOOF Tombstones. Another Fraternal Organization they used to be very HUGE at one time.

Those cast cement/concrete memorials are really cool. My great uncle used to make those and yard ornaments like little tree planters etc.. Not made of stone. We have a few here in Colorado at a very old cemetery. One of a cabin with daylily by the front door.

I've been exploring and photographing old cemeteries since the 1980s, and I don't think I've seen more than a total of 2 or 3 Woodmen of the World memorials. This is really interesting. Oh, and there's also "Modern Woodmen of the World". I don't know if that's a newer organization, or if it was re-named that, or what. I loved that stone at the end! Side note: No offence to anyone, but I actually enjoy "The other Robert" a little more, only because I feel I relate to him more because he's closer to my age.

We have a picture of my husbands grandpa and his dad at a Woodmen Of The World function. It may have been a funeral in Adel Georgia. His dad is a child so it may be about 1912. It's an interesting picture. Some of the men are holding what looks like a shepherds hook or axes. Seeing the cemetery you visited is interesting.

That was very informative to know the history of the woodsman of the world. In southeast Washington state in the tiny town in this state is Pomeroy ajd in that very remote cemetery in that super remote town, has a few of those woodsmen of the world headstones which I find fascinating. In Glasgow l, ky where I lived up until October 2022 from 2003, there’s those same headstones in the city cemetery. Yes, I do get around for sure. If you two ever get a chance, I recommend you guys to visit canon beach Oregon to the historic beach in canon beach and visit Seaside around 8 mikes north of canon beach. Bring coats as the wind is cold when the tide goes in and out every 6 hours. The weather is different than the warmer east coast because we are more northern than Kentucky and Georgia. Bring loads of cash because ITS REAL EXPENSIVE HERE.

I worked in Public Libraries in Illinois for 45 years and we would get Memorial Book Plates from Woodmen Of the World in honor of deceased members of WOW. Not very many, but they did come with a small check payment gift along with the Book Plate. Must have been an benefit option for WOW members to purchase.
