I don't know how it sounds like acoustically but it sounds like rubber bands with that pickup. Practically unlistenable. This is what an acoustic guitar should sound like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bcrEqIpi6sg.html
Always my favorite Stephen Stills tune ! I served 2 tours in Viet Nam , always had a guitar with me ! It was a sureal time , lots of weed and lots of guitars ! Still playing guitar , still smoking weed , still Love Stephen Stills , and I am almost 72 years old ! You had to be there !
Two Tours for me also...... You good? My Psychiatrist At the VA said 50 years ago that I should always keep me a, "Magic Box." I call my guitars over the years, "Magic Box." Cause some time it sounds like magic coming off that box and strings. And a little Cambodian Red makes it sound so much better.."Class of 69"
I was in Nam back in the early 70's and still remember how those pilots on those hewy's would put their lives on the line..they where a breed of fellows I'll never forget..
in libya I WORKED WITH A GUY NAMED Bob Sutton and he allegedly has also been there but he was a bit of an odd ball :always bragging He had even met the famous actrice mmmm forgot, who was there to cheer the troops on BS used to say : "well I did not fuck her, but had my hands on her pussy! "
My Dad was a flyboy in WWII, Korea, and Viet-Nam. Survived seven downings. Was a Hell of a guy. "Cashed out" at the age of 68. "Live fast ,die young, and leave a beautiful memory" Rest In Peace Dad. I still smile every-time I think of you. "Gear-up".
Mad respects, what branch did your dad serve in. My dad served in WW2 and Korea as an aircraft mechanic in the Marines. After Korea and is 15 years of service. He joined up with Eastern airlines in 55 up to the closing
When you realize he has written so many of their songs, you can hardly believe there could be so much talent in one man! But it’s really him who does so much! I never tire of hearing him!
Stephen Stills, the most beautiful, enchanting, singing voice ever, amazing writer, and well the guitar playing is a voice of perfection all its own. Rock On Stephen!
Don't recall anyone ever not giving Stephen the credit due. He makes that Martin sing. This is a goddamn good version of this masterpiece by the way. I've seen him forget the words a few times.
The best Guitarists in the world would have great envy and admiration for this Southerner ..... Steven Stills was a Phenomenal Player of several instruments, Composed, sang and integrated into several bands and a solo career .... I loved to hear this man play - Just so great !!! God bless you Steven Stills !
So glad I was there in the beginning. I can almost hear the chopper blades. They saved our classmates, husbands, brothers, and lived to tell about it. Even though they rarely did. Stephen Stills singing about them just makes our day. Yep, they kept flying.
Genius , if there's a list of best songs ever written this is in that list , how can anyone thumbs down this?I grew up to this stuff , can't get tired of it
Ive loved over the years, Stephen's voice, guitar playing and he's handsome to top it off. The whole group have amazing voices. Love Crosby, Stills and Nash. I love bluesy style.
I spent 45 years years in the cockpit of both airplanes and helicopters until my forced retirement last year at age 62. From the geographic North Pole in ‘88, through to India, Nigeria, KSA, Qatar, Yemen and finally Abu Dhabi in the UAE…..it’s been a great ride…… Treetop Flyer is a greatly appreciated tribute to those highly trained pilots who do things just a bit different than the guys driving at United. Many thanks…….
God such good era of musicians that never stop sounding good to me. Havent heard this one in a very long long time.......steven stills crisp clean sound..wow. Thank you for that.
It's hard to over state two things. Firstly, how under rated Stephen Stills is. Secondly, and more importantly, how absolutely brilliant he is. His influence on modern music is enormous. Jimi Hendrix apparently said Stephen was his favourite guitarist to jam with. High praise indeed!
After 45 years of hearing him in the background, I started listening to this amazing musician. He has chops like very few, and can make it sound beautiful at the same time, a distinction that can not be understated. "Jimi Hendrix apparently said Stephen was his favorite guitarist to jam with. High praise indeed! " If what you say is accurate, it is like being given knighthood by the King of guitar players.
Jim Deeds Gym For The Soul my dad used to jam with him, neil and ritchie when they got to LA tlll the early 70s. Gave dad open G, he still keeps his favorite Martin tuned to it. He's 83 and still plays. Rock and Roll till you die
Listening to this I'm reminded once again how much Stills guitar sound shaped music in the 1970s. This particular song reminds me of the classic CSN&Y album 4 Way Street (although this was released years after that seminal recording) Stephen has a lonely bluesy quality in his playing that draws you in and perfectly compliments his warm earthy vocals.
Makes the hair on my neck stand up every time I hear it. Particularly this version. The epitome of a musician in my book. ONE PERSON WITH AN ACOUSTIC GUITAR.
There are brilliant guitarists, there are guitarists that play from the heart and there are guitarists who have bucket loads of style but there are not many that possess all three. Stephen Stills is one of the few. What a class act !!
Stephen gave a shout out to our beloved veterans about challenges they faced coming home from the war. God bless them. Each and every one of them. Thank y'all. Salute!
@@jamesmcdougallthethird4021 we didn’t do anything besides come out of that war more damaged then before we went in. All stories are from the loses. Hamburger hill is an example. Nothing to salute in that manner
One of the best treetop flyers I ever knew / went up with became the department head of the aviation department at a major university. He started out as a crop duster. He had an old Beechcraft cargo plane, and we’d take people up for a sky diving school and push them out, if they’d get up there and chicken out. That’s how we spent our free time. This was the late 70s, early 80s.
Most of us from our generation, took up playing the guitar because of the influences of CSN&Y or Jackson Browne....it was the California canyon music of the 1960's-70's that got us hooked. I realize that there were many other influences around and folks who were inspired by them likewise, but for our friends it was Stephen Stills and fellow Buffalo Springfield alumnus Neil Young who got us going.
One of the true American greats. I remember what a revelation it was when I heard him play with Mike Bloomfield and Al Cooper on the Super Sessions album. Groundbreaking rock and roll. Time flies....
remind's me of my youth......came back in 73...got a job with a major railroad as a admin. person....was layed off then i became a courier...up and down the east coast...some of the best times of my life.....and yes what i did was illegal as hell....
There are old pilots and bold pilots .. but no old bold pilots ... an old man told me when I asked why didn't have airplanes any more... he use to fly through canyons around his place. Thanks Steven.
Many say SS is underrated but I don’t think it is true . He is the best acoustic blues player ever - songwriting , singing and that delicious guitar playing . He was the real deal in his prime days
This is the most beautiful I have ever seen of Stephen. This dvd is one of my most treasured possesions I own. I love his voice and Judy put it best when she said his voice was "sandy honey" Thank you Judy for that. I love you so much Stephen I just wish I could sit down with you and tell you again face to face as I did back in May in Northridge. God Bless you Stpehen.
Simple...I know people have many differences...but ....I love this song!...Beautifully done......more proof that different backgrounds and circumstances can produce something amazing that we all remember ...(oh yeah!!).....
wow what a song and a pleasure im a 23yr retired disabled vet and this song makes me cry with pride, ive did my time and and aint got shit to prove to anyone , but myself , and i love to fly my own airplane , still do , just in ohio LOL
