In this video I’m going to be testing out the Trek Roscoe 8 on Pavement going up and downhill. Make sure to follow me on Instagram @GoldGloveMJ for additional content!
I have a 2019 Trek Roscoe 8 that I have been riding for a few months now. I have used it on the road and it works very well as a commuter. The best thing for road riding is to pump the tires up. I put them up to 30psi and it rolls amazingly well for a bike like this. This is an amazing bike and can tackle anything you throw at it.
Sweet riding! My friends and I who all got into road biking at the start of Covid-19 went up to Sedona to ride and we hit 45 mph going down some hills. It was terrifying and awesome at the same time. Matty your mountain biking videos inspired me to give it a go and after going once with my friend and using his bike, I just picked up my own 'Iron Horse MKIII' full suspension bike through OfferUp. I am loving the sport of cycling and you are one of the people that inspired me to give it a try so thank you for that!!!!
I just got my Roscoe 8 yesterday. Took my first ride from the shop and brought her home....can't wait to take it out on the trails. Really like your videos.
I really like your videos... your attitude is great...! I just purchased a Roscoe 7 at Wheat Ridge Cyclery... after watching your videos, I’m extra excited to ride on both street and trail...!
I rented A Roscoe last year and nothing is more fun going downhill than this bike. Compared to my Rock hopper Pro. Its like cruising downhill in an SUV. So much fun and builds up speed real nice. Tons of fun!
I literally was going to buy that Roscoe 8 last weekend but decided to go with the Trek Fx3 for less money and a better ride. I knew I would be on more pavement than gravel.
You should remove the plastic thing from your cassette, that thing is meant to be temporary until you index the gears. Great vids btw, loving the casual and relaxed approach!
There is a ton of debate about whether to keep or remove the "dork disk", most cool kids remove them but they do serve the purpose of protecting the spokes in the event your derailleur gets shifted (as in you hit something). A new hanger is cheap, but getting your wheel re-spoked isn't. It's funny, i never really even noticed the thing before I saw people talking about it on forums.
I can't speak specifically to that bike carrier you have, but most of them that "hang" the bike do so from the top bar, not under the bottom bar. Since most modern mountain bikes have a steeply angled top bar, you need to get a special adapter bar that clamps to the front of the top bar behind the neck, and the other end clamps to the seat post to make it all level. Otherwise the bike hangs a a steep angle and risks having a wheel hit the road. That's why most of the more expensive carriers mount from below directly to the wheels, which works a lot better for mountain bikes. Most of those require a trailer hitch though. If you're going to do a lot of carrying with the car, I'd recommend it for you, you can get a trailer hitch installed on any car, even if it's not rated to tow a trailer. The other advantage is you don't have the straps, hooks, and pads on the carrier rubbing on the paint and glass of your car. It's worth it!
i recently bought a roscoe 8 (upgrading from a cannondale trail 7 XC 2014) and it is so much more fun to ride, also i found it a breeze to commute on (i have been mountain biking since i was 7 tho so i am pretty fit i am now 16)
You didn't look out of place in Boulder. It's common to even see high end full suspension bikes riding down the street because a lot of Boulderites will ride to the trails right from their house. There are also lots of great trails in Boulder, I would definitely recommend hitting Betasso Preserve, or heading up towards Lyons and hitting Hall Ranch.
Yes, those trails look cool! Have you ridden at White Ranch or Table Mountain? Table Mountain has great views, and White Ranch's Longhorn trail is a blast. Some really steep and intense stuff out in that area!
@@TheBiggSend haha yes- just ran into someone at my local bikepark- a beginner who was on a Roscoe 7. I asked him how he liked it and he replied with "This bike has gotten me out of many sticky situations and is forgiving when I take the wrong line." Enjoy you're new ride!
I like your videos man, If you like that kind of ride, you should consider get an extra pair of wheels for the roscoe so you don't get anything that slow you down. I think the most dangerous thing you did in the video was here: 14:01, and 14:07. Stationary car can open their doors in the moment you don't expect, and they are gonna give you a reality check. I ride motorcycles as well as bikes, and by far the most dangerous places are next to a car or in intersections like this 14:27, you don't trust in the lights, you look always before pass. I missed some wheelies with the Roscoe. Keep riding!
Hey bro if you want the bike to stay more level on your Allen rack brace the bottom bike tube on one of the arm mounts then brace the top bike tube on the other arm mount. So you'll have one mount that goes between the top bike tube and bottom bike tube then the other mount that will go under the bottom bike tube. When you mount your Roscoe to the mounts on the rack this way the bike will actually sit level an more secure.
I mostly ride gravel paved roads and rail trails we have record numbers of ticks in mo. this year but after it frost I'll be riding dirt this fall and winter my tires should be wore out by spring and going to narrower 2.2 highway tire for next summer on my Marlin 6
Hmm i just put 30psi on my Roscoe and was gonna try it out on pavement. I have another bike, a hybrid, for general purpose commuting and bike paths.. its great for that. Having watched this video not sure the extra air will decrease much rrolling resistance haha
I got a marlin 5 about a month ago and it’s difficult on paved hills so I can’t imagine the roscoe. I find myself on pavement most of the time so I think I’m going to trade it In for a dual-sport 4 eventually
aahhh i've been riding a kmart "mtb " my legs are super strong now lol i just got a roscoe 6 it was such a difference in quality that i forgot about the marlin
Matty I just wanted to let you know for the bike rack, you placed the bike on the rack incorrectly. You need to put the tube of the rack in between the top tube and the down tube of the bike.
I took a long trip on my Canyon Dude fatbike and those 4" Jumbo Jim tires roll easily on any surface. Pavement, gravel, trails, you name it. That Roscoe looks equally capable all around bike. How's the riding position for pedaling on flat road?
Great video man that sure was a tough climb. Why do you think it was so hard of a peddle with the Roscoe?...I had the fear on with that ride down thou. Oh last time I saw your site u had the Marlin 6. How is the up grade. Cheers
And I thought I was the only one that had to hike a bike uphills! Lol And I know what you mean about road cyclists looking at ya funny when they see ya riding mt bike or whatever. I always get those looks when they see me riding on one of my SE bikes. They’re like, “ What the heck is that?” Lol I know you have a DJ Ripper, can ya show your other SE in a vid? Thanx!
haha yea...... was riding my local bikepark today (it is non-shuttle). The climbing trail got destroyed by construction, so I had to pedal up a nearby road and..... Sure enough I caught some looks from the roadies.
i heard in one of your last videos being in with the redsox system. i guess we played against each other in the NYP league in 2011.. i was with aberdeen
Great Channel man. As far I can see you are team Roscoe 8 and that's totally understandable. Nevertheless, I'm hoping you beef it up your channel in the future with some Marlin 8 stuff. I'm team Marlin 8 👍
I'm planning to buy this bike but would you say if I got an extra set of skinnier wheels it would work as a commuter and then put the original tires back on for trails?
How is the bike going? I just ordered an R9 here in Australia, it arrives in Feb. I do a lot of urban riding to and from my spots so I love having a bike that is capable all round as I'm always finding little jumps and stuff around my streets as well :)
Don't know if you still have your Roscoe 8 but I converted mine to 29 and its soooo much better. I don't know if i would do it if I already owned the 9 like you but ... yeah its better lol.
Pmsl I’m not gonna lie I’m having 2nd thoughts 😂😂 there is a bill by my house at the start of every ride I have the same conversation in my head quarter of the way up
I know it is proble a dumb question but how does the roscoe 9 feel on the pavement riding? I'm thinking on getting the roscoe 9 to ride back and forth to work to get back in shape but I'm wanting it because of what it comes with and it's mostly flat here and I would be trail riding it also and I'm 180lbs what psi would be best for pavement?
I think it’s great for pavement riding but I would suggest faster rolling tires if you want to be more efficient. The stock tires will really suck up your speed
@@MattyActive First I really hope all is going well with you, I haven't seen many of your videos being posted lately - I looked at a Marlin 6 today I really REALLY want it. Many bikes here are not available due to COVID I really want a Trek Hybrid BUT that would not be possible until March April so I am told - So now I am thinking of the Marlin 6. After a brief test ride I found it to be very responsive and quicker than I had imagined and I was wondering how it was going up long ascents - That's all
@@MattyActive true I called a few no inventory. I found a all black roscoe 8 in a local shop ,it was sold but I was able to check it out it’s thorough..
Matty going that fast if you to stop real quick those knobby tires they get really squirrelly on paved roads I learned that the hard way on a TS 400 Suzuki dirt bike
