In July 2022, I trekked the Cordillera Huayhuash, covering over 170km on both the traditional circuit and alpine route.
The Cordillera Huayhuash is a mountain range in the northern Peruvian Andes. The trek is a unique one and more challenging than others because it takes place above 3,500m altitude (11,500ft) and you never dip below. It's great fun for the knees and lungs!

Beautiful. Thank you. It’s such a physical AND emotional experience. Can you send or post recs on guide & trekking companies, best time of year (I’m hoping for June ‘24) and any other advice? I’ll also Prefer the high route. Will that depend on the group I end up with? Thanks. You’re a rock star.

Hey! I'm so glad you're going to do it next year and you're in luck! May to September is the best time to do it as it's Peru's dry season. I did this in June/July 2022. I highly recommend going through Andean Kingdom. You can find them online or Instagram. Luly is the owner (a formidable Argentine) and she'll put you in good stead! As for the high route - I'd say you can ask for it prior to the trek, but the guide will likely gauge the fitness of the group. It's not impossible, so it's definitely doable! ☺️ Hope this helps. Honestly I'd say you need to be fairly fit, given you're in altitudes above 4000m for almost the entire 8 days. But it's completely personal choice. A lot of willpower and you can do it. Also if you have porters and just walk it without packs it would be a lot easier!

thanks for the excellent vídeo. im going to this trip shortly and im also taking my drone mini4pro. how was your experience with the drone arriving at the airport? i read you have to pay 18% tax that you get reimbursed upon departing peru. is it ok to fly drone in huayhuash or you got some kind of permission from peruvian gov?

I didn't pay anything when I flew in! And absolutely no questions asked when I brought my Mavic 2 Pro at that time. I didn't need any licence either to fly in Huayhuash!! I hope you have the best time!

Hey Nichole! Sorry for the late reply. I went through Andean Kingdom and 100% recommend. Check them out on instagram @andeankingdom and you can contact via message or through their website. Or just arrive in Huaraz and visit the shop! I booked 2 days in advance, so it's very flexible.
