Art you could harvest bamboo shoots from that grove for eating too. And the wider ones can be cut to short lengths and used for steaming food inside. Lots of videos on that as well as using it for building material. The bamboo around my old house penetrated right through the foundation. I wouldn't recommend bamboo in the garden. Your bamboo teepee just needs flags or fluttering ribbons on it to be a killer scarecrow!

Another fun fact, a bamboo grove is the safest place to be in an earthquake because the roots make such a strong foundation it holds the earth together. Great video, I need to visit a house in town that has a smaller grove taking up almost the whole property. The landlord allows for some harvesting.

Took me a half hour, three years ago to dig up one root from a bamboo patch nearby (and broke my shovel while I was at it!), but now from that one root I have a small forest of bamboo for trellising and other jobs. Just be sure to dig a trench on the outer perimeters to keep this rambunctious plant from taking over your yard! A wonderfully useful plant...and you can eat the young bamboo culms, too! :))

I’m in NC and bamboo is a menace. The DOT cuts it back at least twice a year and it can grow underground to the other side of a paved road. But our local restaurants come by to harvest shoots and I use it to trellis in the garden. Now making furniture sounds like a great challenge!

My family has used tree branches that fell during the winter, or past winters, in our gardens. Tomatoes, squash, beans etc My brother has even taken pantyhose to support fruit on the vine from snapping the vine or being on the ground with bugs & fungus. People always look confused but cant beat the price or outcome. When your pumpkins are in the 100's of pounds and need a tractor to lift, fruits are unblemished and large, your doing something right!

In my very rural area we had a spot by the hwy going into town that everyone used to stop at and harvest bamboo for projects. It was not the clumping type so it would grow right up to the road and beyond. I found a clumping form, took several pieces and rooted it. It was a very slow process but I now have three clumps of it growing in my yard. You can take the leave sections like you were disposing of stick in soil and keep wet till it roots. I have used my clumps this years to make several trellis and stakes. About a month ago I cut a super long piece leaving all leaves on, dug a trench making sure all soil was soft. Laid the long piece in the trench, watered well. It did nothing till the recent week of rain we had and it rooted and has started growing. I laid it where I wanted a wall so I don't have to see the people's house up on the next lot. It is really taking off with all this rain we have had. Reminder: It is the clumping form. I am not brave enough to plant the running type although it is beautiful. I really enjoy watching you both and the BEAUTIFUL family. p.s. Last year they destroyed the bamboo patch growing by the HWY. It took them several attempts, but it has not grown back.

My dads method of growing tomatoes (city garden backyard) was to plant deep, add a tablespoon of epson salts in the hole with each plant (magnesium) along with fertilizer. Cut off bottom shoots and keep suckers pinched off; he used 5 foot home made wire cages to support them. He grew "big boy" and "early girl" plants among others. He was able to grow really big tomatoes with this method; one tomato was as big as both his fists together: I still look at the picture of him holding that tomato and marvel.

👍👍👍. How lucky you are to have so much bamboo nearby. 25 yrs ago while on auto trip we came across such a bounty. Local gardeners said cut what you want and plant it when got home. When did in a far corner first in old whisky barrels and today we harvest our own for all kinds of unique designs in gardens. Also we pinch off bottom branches of tomatoes to control blight and insects and create more air flow. Really helps the crops too. Your garden is so beautiful this year and really shows all the hard work. Never ending but the rewards are many. #1 is health!! Beautiful video AND the best saw for everything 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

If you can ad a cross bamboo perpendicular to the row overhead it would take a NC Frog strangler to blow over all the rows. Also with the plastic hangers: if the string is thin sometimes the hanger can slide. Just run the string through the hinge 2 times then close the clasp around the plant.

On a darker note, bamboo was also used in punge pits for thousands of years in Asia as a unmanned defense. Soldier's would use the bathroom in a pit where sharpened bamboo was places then covered up for unexpecting infantry to step in. It causes nasty flesh wounds and makes awful infections.

Funny how Art's video and Al Lumnah's video today are on the same topic of trellising tomatos. Al, in an earlier video said that his new greenhouse will make his indoor growing season in New Hampshire like North Carolina's. He (Al) must of been right if they have to trellis tomatos about the same day! And they use the same type of clips. But actually, Art's tomato plants are bigger!

Wow this was so amazing. I love that you have access to fresh bamboo. We can get it in Canada and I do use it but very very hard to get big sticks. I found one year at the Dollar store believe it or not 8 foot tall and quite thick. But never again. That was about 5 years ago. We can get short tiny sticks. After seeing this I never realized how tall bamboo grow. I wonder why now we can only get tiny branches of them. I thought that was as tall as bamboo grew. I still have them but they are wearing out :( Also we have blight here as well but past few years I every two weeks spray a mix of baking soda, not to much and warm water on the plants and it honestly has completely helped that situation.
