This is one of those videos that packs so much info, you don’t catch it all the first time. Need to return to and watch again, as you make progress. There are so many ways to teach this mysterious hap trick called tremolo…

Ah! finally I got it. Thank you for taking the time to explain every step. I have watched hundreds of vids over the years, and I frankly said that they don't intent to teach you. As I see, the more people know how the more beautiful music will be made.

This is the first tremolo instruction video I have found that teaches tremolo and actually mentions quadruplets and continuous looping. This is why I think it's even better to first learn tremolo without the thumb as a continuous loop of triplets, but not until triplets can be done cleanly should you start to practice incorporate looping it with precise timing.

The thing that I have noticed about all good tremolos is that there is an alternation between the 'i' finger and the 'ma' fingers. If you watch just 'i' and 'm' in your tremolo, you will see the 'm' coming out at the same time that 'i' is going in. 'ma' (almost) act like a single unit.

very interesting to use the A-M-I arpeggio without P for tremolo: A plays, M plays, I plays as MA extend.

I have made LOTS of progress since watching this video the first time months ago. Question: What do you think of the flamenco (5 stroke) tremolo? When is that appropriate? Do guitarists usually learn one way or the other, but not both? I have begun to make progress with this technique too, and when I record myself for practice, my primitive flamenco tremolo sounds fuller, but then again hearing your demo classical tremolo, I think, that’s how I want to sound!

gohar how long can one expect to learn this technique at say half hour a day ?I tried to learn it before but got bit fed up of it ,but its a must to master ,I just need a reasonable time frame in my head ,weeks or months ,6 months ??
@ArkanTheClean
@ArkanTheClean 5 лет назад
Practice not till you get it right but untill you don't play it wrong. The learning never stops. A trick I found useful after a period of time of trying to play the impossible not getting anywhere was to for get I cant play it and just GO FOR IT as if your an expert. No joy at first then out of nowhere it happened just once. Eurica!!! Then after a while again and a couple of times then again and again and eventually I'm getting somewhere

@jgrossma
@jgrossma 7 лет назад
If you can get execute it that way, all the more power to you, but personally, I think trying to cram your weakest shortest finger into an already technically difficult tremolo is going to make it much harder to get even tempo and tone. I'm not aware of any classical pieces that use a 5-stroke tremolo, but its standard for flamenco. The flamencos use P-I-A-M-I and its really not that hard to do once you've got P-A-M-I down. Doing it that way will let you keep a normal right hand position and, I think, give you more consistent tone compared to using your little finger. Going the other extreme, Mateo Carcassi used P-I-M-I for his tremolo, so that's thumb and two fingers for a four stroke cycle. Noted contemporary guitarist Ana Vidovic does it this way. I find it gives a nice even tone, and its a little easier to be consistent with tempo, but its quite a bit more "work" since the i finger has to move twice as fast.

Gohar mentions it at 3:24. She's playing the theme from "Malaguena" a famous piece written by Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona in 1928. Although written for piano, its since become somewhat of a flamenco-like guitar standard. If you do a search for "Malaguena" you can find any number of performances and written adaptations for guitar. At 5:20 she plays the intro to "Recuerdos Del Alhambra" by Francisco Tarrega, which is the most famous tremolo piece of the classical repertoire.
