@niels6313 Oh, I totally agree. But the fact that they went from 2020, where it feels like half of that draft is on the Panthers to Baalke's first draft where they got 5 legit starters and maybe 2 rotational pieces (Jordan Smith and Tufele, though he's on the Bengals) just seems crazy.

@@Vo1kfang Indeed a quick turnaround, which was needed too! Hope all players continue to grow accordingly and the Jags could be set up for years to come! Luckily the positions should be affordable within the cap, so would love to see them all get new deal when they are eligible. If Harrison is the stud he looks to be, it might become an even brighter future over there!

@niels6313 no doubt! As a part of the Jags fandom, it already feels so much better than 2018 did. That year they brought in Austin Sefarian-Jenkins as the big new addition but it never felt quite right. This entire team, from players to coaches to staff just feel like they're right. Everything and everyone is where they're supposed to be. And even if there's no clear answer for LG and Slot CB, there's enough dart throws (Ben Bartch and Walker Little once Cam comes back for LG and there's probably 5 dart throws at slot CB) with proven low-end starters in case they don't work out.

Should have had some after the '07 and '17 seasons, no? Both of those teams looked poised for continued success, both collapsed under injuries and unsustainable contracts. I agree this is the most encouraging things have been, but man...past has not been kind to Jags teams coming off surprise playoff runs. Those teams did not have Lawrence and Pederson though.

This is one team where if you put the a power ranking/ EPA season split it would really explain why everyone is so high on them. They rank 9th overall DESPITE the struggles through the first half of the season.

That was a good and fair analysis of the Jags journey last season and what to expect this season. I do believe this is going to be Trevor's and the Jags year to shine. Watching Calvin Ridley in training camp he truly is on different level. He will regain is respect this year and will set for a big contract next season. Great insight on the Jags!!!

Division champ schedules tend to face 9 games vs playoff 10+ win teams that beat up the players. Gotta dig deep more often raises risk as opposed to getting up for 4 or 5 games like that lasr yr

The Jaguars defense is pretty similar to the Steelers. They both play a lot of men and they need press corners. I'm honestly surprised that they didn't take Joey Porter junior in the first round.

Jags fan from West PA here, and I couldn't agree more! I really think it came down to 2 things though. 1) They needed OT more since their LT Cam Robinson will be suspended 4 games and 2) they really believe in Tyson Campbell and Darious Williams on the outside (and rightfully so). They ended up with 2 guys in last years draft and 2 this year to compete with Tre Herndon for that Slot CB spot

Chiefs' fan but this is the team I'm second most hyped about (Lions a close third). Really like Lawrence, really think they have a lot of great stuff to look forward to and I think they'll be fun to watch. If the Chiefs' aren't on when the Jags are, I'm watching that game.

Bob Sutton left Michigan _10 years_ before Harbaugh got there. He was a grad assistant in '72/'73 and Harbaugh didn't get to Michigan until 1983.

It was fun watching the progress of Lawrence and Dougie P get it done with the offense all season long. When you see some of the creative pass plays they call to take advantage of Lawrence's ability to squeeze quick passes on time through *small* windows, you wonder how much better this all can be with better receiver talent overall. Good thing the Jags also took care of the O-line and knowing they got a stud of a QB, they will continue to do so to protect him.

The most under-rated thing about Engram is how smart he was when the pressure was most on in clutch situations, fighting for the sidelines to stop the clock elevated him above players like Dalton Schultz who pre-season you'd have put in a similar ballpark. 46:36 Smoot came home. I got the jaguars being 3 in the AFC because their offense is going to be explosive on another level I got them winning the Division this teams is one of my top 7 favorite teams in the NFL I got Trevor Lawerence winning MVP and their ceiling is making it to the AFC Championship Game but I got them going in the Divisional round Their defense is going to prove let’s Go Duval !!!

Because he's gone over 600 yards once and never over 850 yards. Has a terrible catch percentage and really high drop percentage . Great deep ball player though

T Law was already a top 8 QB last year. This year he pushes Burrow for the #2 spot. He was the best QB in the league the last 8 weeks of the season (stats and tape I think back that up). The playoff comeback against the Chargers was a perfect display of just how unstoppable Lawrence can be at times. He's one of a few QBs in the league that can completely win a game on his own.

I would argue that Etienne is a great inside runner, if the blocking scheme is right and assignments are picked up. He excelled inside at Clemson - and Clemson is not known for having the biggest/fastest/most talented O-line. However Clemson does excel at NOT whiffing blocking assignments and running plays as designed. They schemed up inside frequently, and as long as the assignments weren't missed getting to the second level, Etienne would almost always break through. If he made it through the blocks, it looked like touchdown every time. Credit to some of those safeties in college actually getting him on the ground, I dunno how they did it. You saw this suffer greatly in his last year where Clemson's O-line was still well coached, but so awfully woefully undertalented that they simply didn't win off the jump a lot of the time. As an aside, other than the 'Meyer experiment', I think that last year was some of what gave Lawrence trouble at first in the NFL as well. Any good defensive linemen gave Clemson absolute fits that season.

Etienne still managed to rack up 1200 yards on 5 yards per carry. Watching the OL intently last year I’ll say this - the issue with inside zone and running between the tackles last year was less Etienne’s failings as an inside runner and much more the weakness of the offensive line as a run blocking unit. The only player who was even average as a run blocker on that line was Cam Robinson (Scherff had probably his worst year as a pro). I believe PFF had them as the lowest graded run blocking line in the league - with Jawaan Taylor the primary offender - and FBO had them among the worst rated in that metric, with abysmal power success and a major percentage of their positive runs attributable to backs. I think they knew they were going to struggle blocking up the run, and of course they simply had to structure the offense around what was best for Trevor, which they determined was the gun. Last note - they actually did not run a high percentage of RPO last season

Under-appreciated aspect of the Jags upcoming season is that they have by far the easiest division in the AFC. Titans might still be a tough out for the next year or two, but I would rather have them in the division than the Dolphins, Chargers, or Ravens. They also get the NFC South this year! They could not be the best team in the AFC and still get the 1 seed just because their schedule is so much easier than the Chiefs, Bengals, and Bills.

Sometimes people have to put into perspective that being 'close' with the Chiefs is not what you want to be in especially in the 4th quarter of January football. Like that one year when the Bills played the Chiefs close in January but decided to give Mahomes the last possession with under a minute to march down the field in a close game. That is not the recipe to beat them in that situation. At least the Bengals and Bills have the kind of offensive output with their star studded receiver group to get in a scoring run with the Chiefs. We will see how much Ridley pushes Lawrence's passing game and if Doug P needs 1 more really good receiver to make that push.

If your not going on 5 game win streaks and relying on other teams in your division to fall off or get hurt then your not ready for division champ schedules where your gonna play 8 or 9 games vs playoff 10+ win opponents that beats players up. Jags did a great job taking advantage of their opp they scratched around getting wins around the 4 or 5 tough match ups and got one in the playoffs which is exactly the improvement you want to see in young new builds. But its a bubble team and brickwall their up against and they still need tn to bl0w it and hand the division to them.
