“We as a people have become very much more difficult to govern.”
The British public are now more “impatient” and want political changed to be made “instantly”, which makes a politician’s job much harder, says Sir Trevor McDonald ahead of his new memoir On Cricket.

Maybe some of the British people have eyes and ears and can see and hear what's going on.

British public have gone beyond what they can endure.

I would suggest the British public are sick of having their wishes ignored by the political system they elect. No politicians ever tell the truth and do all they can to ignore the public.

Perhaps Sir Trev could share which people are easy to govern? Every single country on the continent is turning hard Right while the British continue to vote for Blairites who have been selling out their country for 27 years...

Sure, Rome wasn’t built in a day. But it’s reasonable to expect that things should at least be heading in the right direction. And that the government should course-corrects when the electorate criticises it. Instead we seem to get governments who tell the electorate _“Be patient. We know best.”_ whilst demonstrating that they don’t.

Import the third world, become the third world. Here endeth the lesson

The demise of the U.K. is not because of immigration, although that's a separate problem. The fault lays with politicians supporting an economic system for 45 years that has seen wealth concentrated at the top and the working class, middle class and small to medium sized business class get poorer. Immigration is a policy politicians use to deflect from their failures on the economy
2 дня назад
@BernardMorrey So when would you say the UK hadn't yet begun to decline?
@BernardMorrey
@BernardMorrey День назад
The decline set in at the end of the 60's, sped up in the 70's .but the wealth gap occurred in the 80's and has continued to grow. Meanwhile, real term wages have decreased whilst corporate profits have soared. Trickle down economics has been debunked yet governments still persist with it only it's called neo- liberal economics. The E.U. has the same economic system and its effects on the working class are just the same as here hence the rise of right wing party's who use immigration as a tool to blame the decline in wages when in real terms it was free movement that helped cause the decline. Something denied by both the Conservatives , Labour etc
День назад
@@BernardMorrey What you describe as 'trickle-down' economics obviously does work or the US wouldn't be the richest country in the world with by far the strongest military. Wealth inequality is far less significant than real-terms wealth, and unemployed people in the US are wealthier than working people in most African & Asian countries

The basis of nearly all revolutions is high poverty levels and what we are seeing in the west is the desertion from mainstream party's to right wing populist party's or people becoming stay at home none voters. The U.K.'s latest election had the lowest turnout in our history and the new government's polling numbers are already through the floor. The economic system is not fit for purpose for the majority of citizens

Politically impatient? 45 years of an economic system which has seen wealth concentrated at the top and poverty, for the working class, encroaching on the middle class and has lately seen the demise of the small to medium sized business class.
