I dont think he's the greatest comedian. But he is really good at doing the "mindblown conscience of an average human, confronting modern reality" thing, which Jon Stewart pioneered (albeit strongly inspired and anticipated by George Carlin). He can dissect a news story, an individual or an institution, while making fun of every detail through some joke or digression, thus giving the viewer a broader understanding of the topic while also leading them towards a "payoff" (like the one he used at the end, here). Of course, he has great writers too.
