Trevor Noah says firing people for blackface controversies "doesn't solve the problem"

"Daily Show" host Trevor Noah continues to make his mark on late night comedy. He recently introduced viewers to his grandmother in his hometown of Johannesburg to discuss his childhood under apartheid. His grandma said she used to be scared police would take Noah because he was mixed race and interracial relationships were illegal. Noah shares how his family kept him hidden in his memoir, "Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood." Noah joins "CBS This Morning" to weigh in on blackface controversies surrounding Virginia lawmakers.

Trevor held the whole room, everyone was truly listening to what he had to say. You can tell that they were connecting with it and processing. It's because he is really good at articulating different topics, he has the charm to inject humour to help levee these serious discussions.

I don't watch The Daily Show anymore because I didn't find it as funny anymore. I can't say for certain that it's his fault it might be the direction the show has taken since Stewart left. That said, I will admit that he is charming and articulate and he seems like a sensible person (maybe more sensible than his writers allow).

I am a black woman and I don’t think a person should be fired because of black face that happened years ago. My thing is how are they now and have they evolved. People have to understand things happened in the past that were accepted. I know I did and said some things in my past that would be considered bad or questionable in today’s society.

I like how most of these comments just jump to the "unless they're Republican" thoughts. Did you even watch the video? Do you even watch The Daily Show? Trevor Noah makes some good points here and I recommend placing your partisan thoughts aside and actually listen to what he's saying. He even addresses how media presents news with certain headlines that doesn't help someone approaching the situation. So rather than looking at the title of this video and immediately dismissing it, calling Trevor Noah a "partisan hack", or blaming Liberals for everything, why don't you try opening up your mind a little bit and hearing what someone has to say. Like he says at the end of the video, we do better with bonding over our similarities than just looking for our differences.

Trevor highlights the biggest problem with all these dumb stories blowing up in the news at 3:50. As soon as he comes full circle with his thoughts at 4:26, she changes the subject because this panel is just as much part of the problem as the panels, pundits, and anchors of every news/media outlet. It's the media making headlines, titles, and putting these stories out there in a way purposefully worded to provoke people which in most cases totally misrepresents the actual facts of the story. How about we start holding the media to account over misrepresentativism, the newest, hottest -ism that people should be getting offended over.

Thank you Trevor Noah, as always I love you! So now, to your point. I'm certain that I may have said or done some things 35 or 40 years ago that I would not be particularly proud of today if "dug up" Thankfully, I have grown considerably as a person since then. Unfortunately I am forced to admit to the truth of the fact that some of what the current issue represents still goes on in some areas. But the question of "firing" him I believe simply sweeps it under the rug and allows it once again to go away. Perhaps the goal of some?

I live in Washington state. My whole life I've never heard of black face being a thing until a couple years ago when a big story hit the national news. I always thought dressing up as a famous person. Was a compliment. You only know what your taught. Remember not everyone knows everything.

I like what Noah said at the end about being more alike than we think. I have travelled the world and the thing that struck me most was that no matter how different the cultures are, the people are shockingly similar. One of my favourite moments travelling was in Indonesia, I was chatting with a local guy in the Hotel I was performing at and he said "Rock n Roll died when Kurt Cobain did" which is exactly the joke I make. The opposite side of the world and still there are people that think the way I do.

No, not on a grander scale. Here in Germany we get taught so much about what led to colonisation or Austrian Hitler rising to power. At school, at church, through media. I've seen very racist movies coming from the USA but never one dealing with such a subject for conversation. Its not "entertaining" enough I guess, and doesn't yet have a happy ending. True change can only come if the school system in USA gets better at teaching the atrocities instead of celebrating pathos.

You act as if you're incapable of being guilty of the same accusations, hypocrite. Since when is it illegal for someone who is not the same color to use certain terminologies and phrases that those of other color use? People of color imitate and mock white people all the time. Don't act as if you are innocent. I, as a Jew by blood and Catholic by Faith, know 100% what it is like to be discriminated by all people of color and faith backgrounds. And for years, white males and women have been getting slandered and made fun of every day in comedies and now by the Democratic party and national media. I clearly know what it is like. Just because in your life you experience discrimination doesn't mean people of different skin color do not receive any discrimination. That's such a bigoted statement that only democrats are capable of making. I live in a Democratic ran state, and all the people I talk to are Democrats, and every last one of them has something to say about other peoples skin color. Every last one of them. From making fun of an indian person for their accent, to making fun of white people, to even hating their own skin color. Fact is, you democrats are the one's who need to look past skin color. I do find it odd that the needle in the haystack republicans I manage to find in this state never bring race up in conversation nor look at someone based upon the color of their skin.

I started reading "Born a crime" 2 days ago and I'm almost half way through. And I am In love with his descriptions of his mom Patricia. She must have been so strong to always move forward with all the craziness happening around her. I couldn't agree more that we need to have these tough conversations. I often get the feeling that people in the US are more concerned about political correctness than the actual issue.
