Definitely. It's just a shame that some MA albums are really lackluster (Abominations, Heretic, Illud, Kingdoms). Even their really great albums have some uninspired and frankly skippable parts. Sure, you don't have to listen to their albums throughout to get the full experience, but sometimes I just wonder why they decided to include tracks like the two last instrumentals at the end of Formulas, and Hatework at the end of Domination.
I agree. God of emptiness is a masterpiece. But unfortunately a lifetime of blaspheming Jesus takes a toll on a persons soul. And we can see when you look at him. It's one of the reasons he's addicted go heroin, oxy's, fentanyl etc. He looks like he's 70 yrs old. Blaspheming God isn't good for your soul. Even though I love death metal and even black metal I know this to be true. I fear when will become of me when I die.
Trey is an amazing person. When they visited Greece for the Heretic album he hanged out with the fans at the hotel with no Rockstar bs. At the end he asked if all of them had tickets for the show. Two of the fans didn't yet due to lack of moolah, Trey made sure they were on the guest list personally twice.
That is so cool!! I've had the impression that he's really cool to the fans. I'd love to game with him and play D&D, as someone had mentioned that they gamed. Totally Cool guy! Glad that he's doing better since his collapse on stage! Totally awesome that he was back on stage the next night.
Me and my friend also got free tickets to a different concert of his after we met him randomly the day before. It was only us two there. He made sure we got to go with them backstage before the concert, and then go down to the stage together with them. It was a small venue but a cool experience:)
@@lethalpunchjabtonehahahahaha booze?! I didn't realize that heroin is called booze nowadays. I can see 50 thousand track marks on his arms in but this one video
So many mean things. He’s a genius and he’s sincere. No bs. He’s excellent conveying sound production. He is from another world. He changed my life. MA forever 🙏
He looks like utter shit, mate. He's really going down hill. Now he collapsed in stage. Who cares what skills someone has? You like his tunes. So what? He's suffering badly.
Trey and morbid angel are legends. It really sucks seeing drugs and alcohol consume him, makes me hate drugs even more. I'm hoping he gets clean. I wish him the absolute best. The metal community loves you Trey ✊️
Too much cigarettes and beer ended up leaving the individual like an impaled animal. This is the style of the death metal listener that goes beyond camouflage clothing.
Trey was My number one influence on death metal guitar kicking Chuck from Death to second place, until i discovered Ripping Corpse. I thought it was a lie i was being so overwhelmed by the craft of Shaune Keeley over trey s, i still think it's unreal. But Trey s the second and he outplays everyone in terms of uniqueness. It's just that Shaune s playing is the most death metal expression on guitar i ve ever heard bar none. Trey s unique, but Shaune has it all hands down.
Great guy, but criminally underrated. I hope he gets the help he needs after the collapse a few weeks ago. That was so sad to see. Trey cannot be another one of our best musicians to go before their time. Best of luck Trey! The world NEEDS you!
I agree.... unfortunately he has a lot of enablers around him who make excuses for him. I keep going back to this video because I am shocked at how bad of shape he is in lately.
Trey was a brilliant experimental artist and avant-garde composer, and he has his legacy. Sad to see him so deteriorated. But his legacy remains untouched.
8:05 he said it right there :) i mean ive met many so called 'deteriorated' ppl whos quickness and intelligence still surpass all the learned idiots walking around...appearances can be deceiving
Want say sometging for Trey..man is like Mozart ..Grew up with Morbid Angel 40 years give soul on this music..Media sucks ...Whats is your problem if he drink ? As musician is profesional..man has problem with waste has surhery same problem have and i..He played live ,felt strong pain and still solo on guitar in you on u tube said if he is drunk? Motherfukers only to have views..insulalted a man who give his life on music and as professional to play live cause his job..U have to respect musisians. Fuk your views
Seen em live 23 or some odd years ago. After the gig, he jumped into the audience and just started chatting with us and giving us picks and stuff. Wicked nice guy and easily the most virtuoso player in Death Metal
One of the most criminally underrated guitarists in the history of music. He is a renaissance man when it comes to his unique guitar sound and music composition. Always operating outside the norms and not giving a hell about what's popular, just what works. A true sorcerer of music with a diabolical style of his own. Effin love this guy 😈❤🤙
@@macabre19He was voted the n1 Death Metal guitarists years ago and has been recognized by countless guitarists and bands. Not sure how the f is he underrated?
Love how Old school guys have so much passion in music, learned and did things the hard way with incredible results regardless of the difficulties. My generation had it much, we also drink less if at all. Thank you for this rarity!
To me, Trey is the greatest master of sound and energy. Once I got "Gateways" as my first Morbid Angel's album back in 2000 I was completely enchanted by his outstanding art of music. 23 years have passed and I still cannot exist without listening to Morbid Angel. And I've also got tattoos with MA logo and MA's song title. I suppose Trey has totally changed the world of music through all those four decades of acid and lava.
Sorry I didnt have the edit button on my phone but I just got into morbid angel and gateways is my favorite album as well. I like ageless still i am. Also secured limitations, treys vocals are hilarious and awesome lol
I got to hang out with this guy in ‘98. Honestly one of the most unassuming musicians I’ve ever met. You’d never look at that guy and know he was one of the greatest guitarists and composers of all time.
Thanks again for this got to meet Trey and chat about the Tampa scene back in the days in Denver this tour such a cool guy and one of the finest guitar players ever!
Thank you for the video and rare occasion to hear him speak even though he is not in the best shape here. He is one of the best guitarists of all time. His originality is unparalleled, nobody has a heavier tone than him to this day. He is an amazing wizard of avantgarde expression I wish people will get him for interviews in more formal settings , too bad guitar and gear oriented channels and shows dont pick his brain.
What a death metal hero!!! So grateful that this dude exists and made the most insane riffs for us to listen to. Truly unique, nobody does psycho frantic riffs like Trey!!!!
That's a rarity!! Trey doing an interview is hard to find. Morbid Angel for me is the best death metal band. I love Cannibal, Deicide, but Morbid is awesome. To this day "Covenant" is the best selling album in death metal. A masterpiece
Totally unexpected, I was just going to ask him a couple questions (first about how he plays paradigms... He slides his finger completely under the top string on his guitar playing the riffs, and the second about his preference of new vs old rat pedals) and my bro just started recording 🤷♂️🤘 amazing guy, total respect for Trey!
Well no shit. This is exactly why. The guy is probably too hammered to do any interviews. At some point he even asked the guy recording to delete the video cause Trey himself knew he sounded drunk. 7:37 Which he does indeed sound wasted.
Honestly I have never been the biggest Morbid Angel fan, but I have tremendous admiration for Trey. He is completely dedicated to his art and always follows his heart, regardless of what others might think of his ideas. Such drive and passion is very inspiring.
I met Trey at Aces Records in Tampa back in day. I was a kid and he was so personable and kind to me. He talked to me about the living continuum and truly expanded my horizons beyond music. He was a true inspiration to me on many levels. I will always love and appreciate him for that. Here’s to one of the last true legends of the art of death metal, he is a treasure…
@@ericjorrey935 I was a stage hand at that show. My friend is drumming for them on the tour, all the bands were killer. Morbid is my all time favorite DM band and was a huge influence on my drumming in the 90s. Interviews with Trey are extremely rare. He's a bit of a recluse. Very cool video
Awesome to see this clip. Extremely rare to see an interview with Trey. I'm a bass player, and this guy makes me want to be a guitar player. If that's not a compliment, I don't know what is.
Trey talking from the heart about Van Halen and what got him into guitar is fucking priceless, I know what he means because that's what his music did for me! I really hope I get to talk to him again.
The other guy is right, man. Trey has big issues with anger and self-esteem. All this nonsense about "F off if you dont like my music, i do not care" he obviously does care and does need other people to validate him otherwise he would just say "if it is not your thing, that is life, we all have different tastes" and this tour he has come a lot to the mic, all angry, saying "F You if you dont like the show" he is good guy, but he has to sort this out.
What an awesome interview. Down to Earth yet not worried about pleasing or winning favor with others in regards to his music. Inquisition (Burn with Me), Where the Slime Live, Summoning Redemption, Dawn of the Angry, Maze of Torment etc. So many badass and memorable riffs!
@@fmbighair anyway trey has a problem with himself ,he's a bit lost as you can see. if he doesn't do something he'll screw up in the morgue he's a genius but his head is messed up now. He passed out on stage a few days ago...
🔥"Blessed are the Sick"🔥........ You can’t live without this album!!!!! Sandoval, Brunelle, Vincent and TREY AZAGTHOTH,.......... Geniuses who melted into one body and created the Biggest Band in the history of Death Metal......... 🔥MORBID ANGEL🔥 Thanks so much for your video!
Trey is my best friend and my brother!!!! Full of love and compassion and doing his best to keep the old ways of making death metal and polyrhythmic variations of music-ALIVE!!!!!! Sometimes he gets so excited for the shows he will stay up two or maybe three days --without getting any sleep--
Something that I wish more people knew about Trey. He appreciates his fans 1000%. It's not easy for him to be social but he'll stop and talk with fans after shows for HOURS sometimes
@@devilxking2 In 1997, I was 17... he stayed with me for 2 hours just talking... He rehearsed his solos for the show while speaking with me and we took a picture. I still have it in my studio. What a great musician and a great human being.
He was, is, and will ever be my favourite guitar player and composer. When listening to his music you enter a different world. And this feeling carries you through everyday life. What‘s more is that he enormously fueled my own style of playing guitar. Stay healthy, never stop…
I love this! I'm not a big MA fan but I respect what he has done and I think it's cool that he is giving the truth here even if it's assisted a bit by a few beers.
Trey is my guitar hero and the reason I play guitar.Much of respect to him to do a Tour with back problems. I'm worried about his health but he is a guardian of the ancient ones and I'm sure the gods will help him to get well To me the collapsing on stage was a wake up call from Cthulhu to take care of himself. I mean look what all happened on that Tour.A Tornado crashed a roof and someone died, the van of Revocation broke down and later Dave of Revocation broke his wrist and then Trey collapsed on stage. All these things seems to me like a sign from the Universe to stop and take a break and recover. Anyway ,I hope he is doing well love him.
Trey Azagthoth Master of GUITARGOD 🎸🎸. Covenant, Blessed are the Sick is my FAVORITE album.. My Legend/Master of Death Metal 👉 DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, OBITUARY, BOLT THROWER, DEICIDE 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 🤘🤘🖤From Meghalaya🖤🤘🤘
He was here in Pittsburgh last week and we got to spend as much time as we could with him!!!!! We took him down to the local 7-Eleven and went for a nice ride in my tour van before he had to go on stage….. their set was absolutely flawless and perfect and everything sounded absolutely amazing and in time!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🫡❤️🇺🇸
Much appreciated, just huge fans of the guy, was never intended to be a "interview" of sorts, but I saw him playing paradigms warped and had to know what was happening.🤘
I read years ago that Eddie's his biggest influence. Always seemed a reclusive character so to see him here.. And he feels insecure at the end..He came off so cool indeed. A game changer of a guitarist and to tell of some of his guitar playing secrets. And underneath the strings?!! Fucking with the guitar and not caring what anyone thought I thought of Einsturzende Neubauten. With how all rules are thrown out the window. Proper! Inspiring.
Hails to Azagthoth. Metal means being pure, sincere, honest, and straight to the point. Enjoy drinking and devil's music! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 excellent interview! 👌
Most metalheads ive known are narcissists and full of shit ppl. Trey may not sound like a diva and stuff. But the pure, sincere, honest and straight to the point traits on metalheads isnt a fact. And i ve been in many countries and knew tons of them. They're resented hot heads without depth, devoid of sensebility at best. Only time most of them are straight to the point is to criticize ppl they don't understand since they can't do fair measure of things in life themselves accurately. It's a shame, but it's metal music that s interesting and mesmerizing and fantastic, but life isnt such things, and ppl in general arent like that at all past their external appearence.
I used to fix his lawn mower when it would break. I would sharpen the blade and make sure the spark plugs were working. I also recommended a fuel additive and synthetic oil which he was very grateful for
The new generation needs a reminder that metal is supposed to be about not giving a damn about trends and what people think. That sentiment is getting lost.
Simple, friendly, talented, original, nothing like deluded pop stars and talentless rappers who can't even play a chord.Trey has always had a unique style and Morbid Angel have inspired too many death metal bands around the globe,Respect.
He doesnt do allot of interviews from my exspeiance. Totally out of the eyes from media🎉🎉 the proef is in the pudding. Thank God (the god i believe in , if you wanna call him that) for musicians, intertainers, human beings like Trey!! So fukin humble and true to your art form. Bless you sir!! Youve been such an insperation!!
Damn....... i never knew..... regrettably never been to a show but i love MA's music and Treys guitar playing! Coming from an addict in recovery, i hope he can put it down whatever hes doing. Hes too good to waste away like that
I finally got to meet Trey for the first time I've been a fan of morbid angel since 1989 the coolest dude you ever want to meet he signed 4 of my CDs I wanted to chat with him more but I looked behind me here comes a huge crowd running towards him I was like shit time was cut real short sorry trey
