Keith Whitley has been gone 35 years today. He changed everything in the few short years he was here…and I know we all miss him terribly. Keith was one of the greatest to ever do it.
My father played with JD Crowe, Tony Rice, Keith Whitley and many others. One of my greatest accomplishments as a novice, nobody musician was opening for Merle Haggard in Kansas City in the early 1990s.Security wouldn't let Merle into the green room until we (the opening act, a guitar duo) had left the building, so I never got the chance to meet him. Instead, I listened to his amazing show from the gravel parking lot out back. Despite that, it is still one of the best shows I have ever witnessed, through the load-out doors. You do Merle and Keith better than anyone I have ever heard. You add so much of your own chemistry, it is amazing, a real treat. Thank you so much for what you do.
Every time I cover that one, I secretly cringe, hearing how short I fall from doing anywhere near as good as Keith did it. His voice was something he worked on for years, and he crafted it beautifully. You did that one real good Trey, picking and singing, both.
Great cover Trey! Thanks for paying tribute to one of the greats that left us way too soon. You get better every time I hear you brother so keep making music for us to enjoy!
Absolutely love your picken!! Just enough taste on this song. Love that little add on at end of breaking guitar in the middle. I've learned alot watching you 🎸 🎶 ❤️
Whoa brother, you slayed that! I haven't heard it done that well since Keith. And the picking is stellar like always, actually "borrowing" that intro and the 2 different walkdowns. Absolutely awesome!
You should be a country star and easily could be if Nashville wouldn’t only looking for people who has no talent and can’t sing! It’s a shame really how good you are and people don’t appreciate real God given talent like you have but buddy I see it and I appreciate it. Btw that Yairi sure sounds good
Awesome job. I wish I could like it twice! Funny thing, I've been working on getting down a few of your covers (you do a killer job on them), and when I started working on this song I thought to myself "I'm going to give this one the Trey Hensley treatment." You beat me to it though lol.
You always do an awsome job, so much talent ! That young fella on your t - shirt looks like he's playing the harp. Not sure who it is but the answer just might be blowing in the wind. From Nova Scotia, Canada.
