What do you guys think about Trey Lance? I LOVE his upside. Strong, fast, great arm, very intelligent. Worthy of a top 10 pick for sure!

He is my main target as a 49ers fan. I'm a big Zach Wilson fan as well, and when it became clear the Jets would not pick anyone else, I started studying Lance's full game tapes, and was really impressed. I agree that there is some refinement needed in his accuracy, but I actually think he's a better passer than Cam Newton coming out of college, and he's much more accurate than Josh Allen was coming out of Wyoming. Allen's completion pct. hovered around 55-56%, while Lance's was at 67% in 2019. Hope he goes 3rd overall, and maybe sits a year to lear the system, and then he can really be an impactful player for us at the most important position, which is something we really haven't had consistently since Steve Young tbh

His QB coach said he's never had formal QB training until this draft process so a lot of his inaccuracy came from mechanical flaws that he has fixed his year. Nobody had ever formally coached him on QB mechanics so he didn't even know what he was doing wrong. I think he will be a lot better and more ready than people realize.

At the end of the day, it’s all about what the coaching staff does for their guy. Build the system around his skill set and I’m sure he’ll be fine. Try to make a guy change his game to fit a different system? Most likely not gonna work.

Exactly, one thing the "Big Board" and other draft pick lists forget is they are picking just one piece, although an important piece, of a team. Now if the the right assessment is done and the QB's skillset fits the scheme, all the fans (and the team) need to hope for is that the coaching staff and team philosophy don't change.. I firmly believe Rodgers has been the best QB every season since 2010 but due to factors out of his control he only has one SB ring - you can go through every season he's been with the GBP's and the issue stands out, like last year, bad coaching calls and a non-supportive draft.

He has the tools. The accuracy is due in a large part to his poor weight shift at times. Coming out of college guys like Alex smith were very accurate but lacked movement and arm strength. Give a good QB whisperer a guy with all the tools and you have something. He is going to be a good one.

This is a fair assessment. Though I do wonder if scouts/analysts take geography and weather conditions into consideration. For example: in some of his outdoor games you can clearly tell that the coaching staff put extra emphasis on the run game as he was throwing the ball into 20+mph winds. Something like that might not show up on tape, but perhaps would be better understood by scouts who actually attended those games.

His throwing motion is very similar to Russell Wilson as well as the arch in his deep ball. His body size and certain plays showed that his style is similar to Steve McNair. You're ONLY looking at stats. You can't do that to get an accurate projection of a player. If you just looked at stats, then why were Josh Heiple, Sam Bradford, and Matt Leinhert all busts? Why was Ryan Leaf a bust? Why did Carson Wentz torch the entire NFL in just his 2nd year in the league? Why did Kurt Warner go from bagging groceries to the Arena League, to winning a superbowl and taking another team to a superbowl?? When you look at Trey, you are grading him as an upperclassman against other upperclassmen. You have realize that he's already as good or better than upperclassmen in a lot of areas as an underclassman. His level of improvement just from redshirt freshman year to now is drastic with his footwork and throwing motion. Imagine how much more improved he will be in 1 more year. Great video! Looking back now you couldn’t have said it any better. He was a boom or bust. His main struggles in college did reflect in the NFL. Throwing with accuracy, anticipation, and decisiveness really hurt him. Sadly I don’t think he improved much from college to the NFL. His footwork and mechanics were still poor as well as his accuracy and throwing with anticipation. I want to know why he hasn’t improved. He’s had a lot of different QB coaches. He hasn’t played much. 49ers was also a mess. I just think he needed time, the right qb coach, the right team, and someone who believes in him. I think right now should be a great time for him to figure out how to outgrow his old self. Although his future in the NFL is skeptical, he is still very young and may just need a chance

Fields can launch it 60 yards from the pocket, Wobbly ball? are you insane, He throws one of the prettiest balls in the class along with Wilson and Lawrence. And a scheme where he throws to the first read? Again what are you watching, Fields has easily gone through his progressions, his only problem with me when it comes to progressions is sometimes he’s a little hesitant when actually throwing to that 3rd or 4th read. And OSU’s system has drastically changed when Haskins and Fields were QB’s. When Haskins was QB he was 41st in production through the air, meaning he throws a lot of screen and short passes. In both of Fields years of starting he was 1 in POWER 5 for production through the air at 70% his 1st year and 71% his second year. You don’t know what you are talking about at all

@@connorsullivan9811 fields dips the ball beneath his elbow when he passes. It elongates his motion, puts pressure on his elbow that shouldn’t be there, and makes it harder to be pinpoint. He’s trying to correct this from what I saw at his faux combines but he’s got a long way. Fields technique at play action isn’t very good, and the offense he ran resulted in more first read throws of any QBs in the class. Ohio’s offense is not geared to properly prepare players for the nfl, it’s to win at the college level. From a pro scout perspective that equates to bad coaching because it results in built in flaws that become hard to correct. Especially for qbs. And yes his ball wobbles, and I don’t like his torque flat footed from the pocket. Jones has a stronger arm in that regard, and that is what most teams value now over long ball distance. Could I be wrong? Sure, a Daniel Snyder or some owner who listens to homeless people for scouting tips might fall in love and override the scouts. But the 49ers? I’d be shocked. But then I’d be happy because I would get to learn why I was wrong. I learned more from being wrong about Matt Ryan than I did being right about Josh Allen.

A division II QB with upside potential. If the Giants didn't draft Daniel Jones early in the 1st round. He would have still been available deep into the 3rd and maybe 4th round. Jimmy G was considered good because the cheating Patriots drafted him? I wasn't a big fan of Kyler Murray going into the draft. He went from deep 1st round to #1 overall. Great athletic ability, but that doesn't make a great NFL QB. Compared to Trey Lance. Kyler Murray was a can't miss #1 overall pick. This guy, hasn't played the Big 10 or SEC teams. Basically one level above community college football. There is this hype train that appears from time to time in the NFL. They find a player in the rough just around the fringes. Then they insist through group think that he is a diamond in the rough with unlimited upside potential. This is the NFL we are talking about here. They are bigger, faster and hit harder than any other level of football. Kyle Allen from Wyoming, a Division I school was criticized by every draft scout going into the draft. His only upside was the guy can throw the ball 80 yards. My draft analysis of Trey Lance. This guy is going to suck and be terrible.

Aaron rodgers sat 3 years behind Favre and look at him now, if he's coached well he will be good if they give up on him then he will be a bust

You lost me at accuracy issues. Hope my Broncos pass on this guy if he’s available when we pick.

Wentz and Allen also had accuracy issues. As it sits, you would have passed on 2 top 5 QBs. Good thing you aren't a scout or GM

@@paidtourist6563 ahahahhaha Wentz is a top 5 qb??? The eagles just paid 30 million to get rid of him, he was the WORST statistical Qb in the league last year, Allen has had 1 good season out Of 3. Let’s see how he does this year. Good thing you’re not a gm. You’ve fully demonstrated you’re an idiot and don’t know football. 🤣😂😅🤣😆
